Some food from in the PANTRY, he hoped it not too bland…
“Would this wine taste ACIDIC“? The thought ran through his head
It came so HIGHLY recommended…”You’ll love it”, the guy said.
He felt the GENTLE breezes, he took a look around
An EXODUS of ships it seemed were now out on the Sound.
He thought how long he’s known her, how many years have flown
Back then she had a CURFEW, and now they both were grown…
He looked across the deck at her, at where she now did sit…
And hoped that she would find this all HAD A NICE RING TO IT…💍

Sunday. 6 for 6. Except for a brief moment when the SEAS of ACIDIC made me think CICADA, the puzzle was as easy, breezy as the GENTLE ones I sense wafting from our cartoon. The solution was a given, by the RING being so prominently displayed…We just SAILED through this one…Today we SEA a proposal taking place aboard a boat. From the dialogue, we can imagine that this couple has been SAILING before, because he’s chosen to include the words “first MATE” in his request. And we’re told that she, Paula, loved it. He looks a little nervous. And by the placement of her arms, and the look on her face, Jeff’s drawn her to look surprised. Our question asks…What did she think of his proposal? She thought it..HAD A NICE RING TO IT! Well done, David! I PROPOSE a toast! Ok, eye candy. The skyline…Chicago? Maybe, I’m not SHORE. I can take a shine to the RING, but I think I’ll go with the dog. He looks like he’s got a VESTED interest in this proposal too! So, There you have it, Folks! Done! Have a great day, Everyone...Smooth SAILING! 💍🙋🏻

  1. To meet CURFEW and escape the HIGHLY ACIDIC odor in the PANTRY, there was an EXODUS from the diner but everyone was GENTLE and no panic ensued.
    Clue words were quite easy for a Sunday, only had to pause at GENTLE. The solution gave me more difficulty. All those letters and all those words!! It wasn’t until I isolated RING, that the answer came.
    Angela, your song is appropriate, as usual, but today I am “at sea” and don’t recognise it. SOS???
    The cartoon is clever but as you pointed out there is not a lot of eye candy to comment on. I like your reference to the life vests they are both wearing. Thanks for your daily dose of puns—they were appreciated.

    • Hey Earl. Good Morning. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I came in, put the post up, and immediately fell asleep. The song choice today, which I’m dedicating to Paul, is titled “Sea of Love”, recorded in 1959 by Phil Phillips. It’s part of my Father’s 45 collection, and it was one of his favorites. It was re-introduced to a whole new generation in 1990, when it was used in the opening credits of “Look Who’s Talking Too”, with John Travolta and Kirstie Alley. (Which BTW has an exceptional sound track, packed with classic oldies). And it was recorded by Tom Waits, (in 1989 I believe), for the movie ” Sea of Love “, with Al Pacino. But this version is nothing at all like the original. It’s dark, like the movie itself. (I personally disliked it (the recording), intensely). Here’s where Paul comes in! I’m pretty sure he once mentioned that he loved the movie and the song. Earl, if you can, check out the original tune on YouTube. It’s a beautiful, sexy, sultry piece of music, and I think you’ll like it. I agree that the words were easy to decipher; the solution also was an immediate solve for me though, as soon as I glanced at the cartoon. I think maybe because it’s a pretty well known phrase. I just re-read my post, and see that I didn’t point out the life vests on the couple…I just alluded to the dog wearing one, to get the pun. As you state, there really wasn’t much eye candy to work with, and the puzzle itself IMO didn’t lend itself to many puns either. But then again, I was exhausted, and running on empty…Maybe some may come to me later on…Thanks for the shout out, and your sentence is very clever, considering today’s words…Not exactly the easiest to NAVIGATE. Here’s to you, Sir, having a restful day too. 🍷🙋🏻

    Thanks to Angela and Earl – you both had me smiling. Vested interest – perfect!
    The answer came to me all at once after I briefly thought the first word would be “was.”
    But I had to back into CURFEW, EXODUS (again) and ACIDIC.
    Maybe it’s been mentioned before, but I see that the caption today isn’t bold and doesn’t detract from the puzzle, as Mike pointed out when it was changed.
    Snowing right now.

I think I did this whole thing with my eyes closed this morning! I’m going to take at look at y’days to see what that looks like. Thanks for the shout out, I’m glad you enjoyed the “vested interest”. I was really hard pressed to come up with some puns.The solution came easily to me also; I hear and say the phrase often. So sorry you’re still getting hit with snow…I hope it’ll be a light amount.   4. Good morning. Another great pick for a song Angela. Kudos to you and Earl on the use of the words. You were right on knowing I would like the song and movie. I enjoy thrillers as well as comedy. Had no trouble with the words except for Acidic. Had a completely different word and when I checked realized I was wrong. The cartoon answer was solved pretty quick. Had gotten the last three words first then I got Nice for the final word. Not bad considering the one screw up. Until tomorrow stay well.

But I only know about it, because you mentioned liking the movie and the song once in the past, And I remember thinking..”the man has good taste”! 😉 The puzzle was pretty easy for a Sunday. I blinked at ACIDIC too, as I said, thinking Cicada. We have them out here in summer. They can drive you absolutely insane! They make this incessant droning sound that’s deafening.       • Brooklyn is not immune to cicadas. Although I haven’t heard the annoying sound in quite some time. It gives you illusion that your in the jungle and have to watch out for posion snakes and such. Shades of childhood. Lol

        • Hey Paul. Maybe not immune, but luckily, you got nothing on us. Out here there’s that 17 year invasion they call the “Cicadapocalypse” that unleashes millions of them on us. It’s unbelievable to see. My brother’s been out here a long time, so I had witnessed it before. But living out here, in 2013? Exposed to it day after day? I thought I’d die! I think I can vaguely remember them from Brooklyn, but as I said, nothing on the scale of what goes on out here. From early in the mornjng… with that sound getting louder and louder as they zoom by. You’re right with your analogy too, like the Jungle Cruise at Disneyworld! 😂 Only you don’t get off this!! But you have me laughing…What do you mean by shades of childhood? You grew up in Brooklyn, like me…Are we saying “it’s a Jungle out there”? 😉😂 🙋🏻

  5. Hi all – Just a pause at PANTRY after seeing PAYNTR. Nice to see a word with two C’s that are not together in the word this time. 🎵”See, CC Rider? Now C what you done done?”🎵

    I think she liked the wording of his proposal because it included “for life.” Otherwise “first mate” might have caused her to wonder about her future security.

    “When the guest peeked into her hostess’ PANTRY and saw the HIGHLY ACIDIC tomato sauce that was likely to be served, she turned what was to have been a GENTLE CURFEW into an immediate EXODUS.”
    (You know that’s not a critique of your cooking, Angela, or I would have said GRAVY.)

    A slight big of nostalgia in the cartoon, as I used to be able to see the John Hancock building from my balcony.

    Just because the word Exodus showed up, I’m going to bring out something I’ve had lying around for awhile. When we were having “banner banter” about Mike’s beach scene above, I dredged up Pat Boone’s “Love Letters in the Sand.” Just after that I saw an interview with Pat Boone that I found interesting, about how he wrote the lyrics to the theme song from the movie “Exodus.” I’ll post it at the bottom of “In Other Words.”

    See you “Monday, Monday, so good to me” and this will mark the end of my days-of-the-week signoffs, since Tuesday don’t get no respect (even though Tuesday’s child is full of grace.) 😉

Now…🎶See what you have done? 🎶 ROTFL…You, my good man, haven’t had Italian until you’ve had my GRAVY! And yes, I know you said “not a critique…” But it was the BUT!…No ifs, ands or buts about it, Sir! BUT…I will kudo your sentence. 👏🏻👏🏻 For the creativity..😉 And “Love Letters in the Sand”, was dredged up long before the beach scene. Think back…Earl and I, long time ago. Once the game’s over, I’ll ask Lou if he’d “accept the mission”, and look for it. He enjoys minutiae! 😂😂 And besides, I’m feeding him stuffed shells…With my GRAVY and meatballs…I trust he’ll be cooperative! 😂

  6. Hi, all! I will keep this brief because yesterday something painful & bleeding happened on the side of my nose that makes me want to keep my glasses off until I can show it to a doctor. And, no, Jerry did not punch me. Ha ha

    The Jumble was quick & easy for me today. I knew the answer to the cartoon immediately, which came in handy for me to use the letters to solve GENTLE and CURFEW after sailing through the other 4.

      • Hi, Steve! With our cartoon scene being on the water, thank you for your sentimental story yesterday about your vial of Pacific Ocean water that you kept on your desk in Chicago until you were able to return. “Why did I decide to roam? Gotta take that sentimental journey, sentimental journey home.”

        I brought home a little vial of Jordan River water but gave it to a woman who asked to use it for her grandchild’s baptism.

        Thank you for good luck & best wishes to my nose. Jerry & I will be taking turns calling doctors tomorrow because yesterday during lunch he cracked one of his two front teeth. I gave him a vanilla shake for dinner with jello & other soft stuff.

      When I saw your post, I thought you were just going to comment on working the name HOYT into one of the words last week (which is admittedly *much* easier than working in KNUREK.) Then I read the story and haven’t stopped grinning since.
