  1. 🎶A bottle of RED a bottle of WHITE…It all depends upon your appetite
I’ll meet you any time you want…in our Italian Restaurant. A bottle of RED, a bottle of WHITE ..Whatever kind of mood you’re in tonight….I’ll meet you anytime you want…in our Italian Restaurant🎶

🍇 A lot of people may not know that NY holds its own
When it comes to the wineries our grapes are finely grown.
When I was NEWLY introduced to what Long Island wrought,
I went a little overboard and lots of bottles bought…
But getting back to basics, the VISUAL pleasure’s stay
As one walks through the winery and takes in the bouquet…
The grapes of different colors like taken from a PLAID,
I must admit the hours spent…some of the best we’ve had
But day to night then day again…and drinking all that wine?
I remember feeling WEAKENed, and not all that DIVINE! 🍇

Since I CHIANTI find any of today’s words as being NEWLY offered, let’s just move on to our cartoon. Today we find ourselves within a WINERY. It’s time to HARVEST the GRAPES, and instead of seeing a BUNCH of people, we see only a man and a woman. But these two have definitely ROSE to the occasion. Our man, a thin guy, not FULL BODIED, is seen enthusiastically PICKING GRAPES, right off the VINE. Personally, I consider myself a WINE ENTHUSIAST…The more WINE I drink, the more enthusiastic I get! I don’t make POUR decisions, I don’t see RED, and I’m never accused of drawing a BLANC. Basically, I become a person of YEAST resistance. Que SYRAH, SYRAH, I say! But, back to our cartoon…The woman, looking as wide-eyed as he, can’t BOTTLE her excitement, either. Our question asks…How did they describe the taste of the wine? It was…DIVINE! Uncork that bottle…and let it breathe! Good one, Dave! Ok, eye candy. It’s a WINERY. Pretty cut and DRY. The man has the beginnings of a man bun. He really should CROP that thing off. He has what looks like a 5 o’clock shadow…Had he just not shaved, or is he trying to GROW a beard? I like the pocket on his cargo shorts…Hmm. I’m making a CELLAR effort, but nothing’s up to my TASTE. I think I’ll just SQUASH the eye candy for today. So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And a final thought…7 days without WINE, makes 1 WEAK…There’s NO PROOF, but I think the thought is RIESLING enough! 🍇🙋🏻

      • Good Morning, Big Guy! I’m just aWEAKENing! 😂 You SQUEEZED two good ones in here! I !ove HARD PRESSED and wish I’d have thought of it myself! Kudos! Thanks for the shout out, Caro, I toast to you every day! Have a good one! 🍷🙋🏻

  2. Morning, everyone –
Visual was the stinker for me today and weaken took a little longer than the other two CWs. Fun post, Angela! I hadn’t heard about wineries on Long Island. There are lots of them on the Finger Lakes and even a grape festival in Naples that features grape pies.

    • Good Monday, Caroline! Thank you so much! It was a fun topic! 😉 Yes, there are at least 30 or so beautiful wineries out on Long Island’s North Fork. We’ve spent weekends out there…And we’ve spent a few WEAKends out there! 🍷😂 I just LOVE grapes! I’ve only been to a winery up by you once, and I had a wonderful time. It was a very FRUITful experience! Hope you have a great day! 🍷🙋🏻

  3. The PLAID upholstery was a VISUAL delight but the NEWLY painted room caused the decorator to WEAKEN and collapse.
Caroline beat me to the punch: The Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York has some of the finest wines in the US—I know the California people may disagree but the wines up here have won all kinds of prizes. The landscape—long sparkling lakes with steeply rising hills add to the beauty of wine tours which take place during the season For those who think of New York as only THE CITY, you really need to explore the rest of an incredibly diverse state.
Angela, I appreciate your ability to fashion such linguistic intricacies every day. Thank you. The puns today caused no groans, just a gentle shake of my head.

    • Good Morning, Earl. Your sentence has me laughing…Was it the color or the fumes? 😂 This Morning life imitated Jeff’s art…and I CROPped into bed at 6AM! Or is that plopped into bed…or flopped into bed..? LOL! 😉 I refuse to become BORD…EAUX I could maybe curb my enthusiasm just a bit! 😂😂 Your description of our fair state is so true, I couldn’t have said it any better. The City (as we Native NYer’s correctly refer to it), is wonderfully dynamic, and second to none; but there’s sooo much more to us…Thank you so very much for your kind words, and I’m adding linguistic intricacies to my resume! It’s a 5-Star phrase! You needn’t thank me…you had me at MERLOT! Have a great day, Sir! 🍷🙋🏻

    • Mike? Sorry, but I’m not following you…POURhaps a bit more information? 🍷🙋🏻

    • Mike…I’m hoping you receive the Emails and see this. Only 13 hours later! I’m cleaning up today’s comments and I just saw that the original post was put up with the solution as: NIDEVI, prompting your DIVINE comment. Sorry I didn’t realize it this morning…Better late than never! Enjoy your night! 🙋🏻

  4. Easy one today. No paper yet, so I did the online version on my local paper’s website. It doesn’t display the blanks for the puzzle letters, so a blind solve is difficult to pull off. There is a timer, though. Completed today’s puzzle in 1:28.

Repairing plaster and bottling beer today. Have a good one, all.

    • Good Morning, John! Both jobs on the agenda? DUBBEL or nothing? I commend you! But can you do both without getting PLASTERED? Have a good one! 🍻 🙋🏻

      • Well, there IS some requisite tasting of prior batches during bottling, which will be done between two applications of plaster. The damage on the wall is low, so no ladders will be involved, fortunately!

        • Fortunately, indeed! DUBBEL on the plaster also? Good thing you’re not going up HIGH! 🍻🙋🏻

    • Hey John, NHL in Seattle by 2020? That’s “perfectly clear” to see! Better start watching some hockey with your Mariners, gear up! I saw talk of moving the Oilers and Flames to the Central, and that Seattle/Vancouver rivalry should be ready-made! Beware of Sharks along the coast! 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

  5. Good morning. Angela, good ending on your final thought. You did get me to chuckle. Earl nice work, mine was similar to yours so no need for mine. Today’s words were easy with a tic at plaid for me. The cartoon answer was a divine pleasure to get. My youngest son with his wife spend like five days up in the finger lakes with her side of her family and tent, going from one winery to another. My fondest memories were as a young child picking grapes with my mothers whole family (grandparents, aunts, uncles) plus all of us in Germany for harvest. After the work was done we had a barbecue and shot off fireworks. Harvest time was always with the whole family. Great memories. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn! That’s it? Just a chuckle? I’m going to have to work a little harder!! Beautiful story about your family…great memories, Paul. Hope you have a great day! Be well, Bud! 🍇🙋🏻

      • Now you’ve done it. The chuckle became a good laugh. Well done. Hope your day is pleasant as well

        • PHEW! You had me worried there for a SECond..I was thinking…CHARDONAY…or should I go?! 😂 Glad I made you laugh, Brooklyn! ❤️ Have a glass on me! 🍷🙋🏻

  6. Hi, all! Pleasant puzzle today with the couple gratified about how well their grapes had grown. The word that took me the longest to squeeze out was VISUAL.

I know nothing about wine because before we married, Jerry went to town with some Air Force buddies, got sick on wine, and has never wanted any around since.

When our girls were teens, some friends of ours decided to make homemade raisins by putting grapes on huge screens & putting them in the sun. We & our girls decided to try a couple of batches. It was quite time consuming, but the raisins were delicioius!!

    • “Deliciolus” made me laugh. I think it means “very tasty.” Ha ha

      • Hi Lelia – Looking forward to waking up with our clocks synchronized tomorrow. Travel is so exciting! You may resume using your indoor voice. 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

      • Hi, Steve! Thanks for reminding me! Saturday has crept up on me. I intended to ask you 3 days ago to please explain to me what is going to happen tomorrow. I’ll take a stab at it:

        TODAY
        Your time: 1 p.m.
        My time: 2 p.m.
        Mike’s: 4 p.m.

        TOMORROW
        Your time: 2 p.m.
        My time: 2 p.m.
        Mikes: 5 p.m.

Right as rain or I missed the boat?

When I told Jerry about the song lyrics of red tail lights on a plane and your brother’s reaction to that, he laughed at the thought of red brake lights on a plane and said, “I worked on a lot of planes but never saw that. All I saw were red and green blinking lights on the wings.”

My cashews are Kirkland brand so when I finish them, I’ll take your suggestion of ordering from Amazon because Planters is positively the preferred brand.

      • Steve, you told me your grandfather played a musical instrument, but I can’t remember which one. Would you please tell me again? Thanks.

        • Exactly right on the time. Almost everyone except Arizona and Hawaii sets their clocks ahead one hour tonight.

Gramp played clarinet and all kinds of saxophones; soprano, alto, tenor and bass. He told me clarinet was much harder.

  7. Hi all – I always see AWAKEN and it’s always WEAKEN. Then I got PLAID after thinking PALLID. (Classic TV reference – “Wire PALLID-in, San Francisco.”)

🎵”Teacher must teach, and the preacher must preach
Miner must dig in the mine
I ride the rods, trusting in God
And hugging my bottle of wine
Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober
Leave me alone, let me go home
Let me go home and start over”🎵

I see the guy is ready to jump right in the bucket and start producing the wine. I also see that this time, the male legs are hairless, perhaps because he’s a hipster and waxes them. I can handle the facial stubble, but oh god, please, no more man-buns! It’s hard enough to watch Brent Burns in the Sharks’ warmups. (and no, it’s not hair jealousy!)

I thought I once saw people on TV harvesting grapes in the snow for ice wine up around Buffalo (?) Now *that’s* hardy stock.

Paul, those must have been Gewürztra-MINERS.
🎵”Well I’ve got this berth and this roll down blind
I’ve got this fold up sink
And these rocks and these cactuses going by
And a bottle of German wine to drink”🎵 Joni Mitchell, “Just Like This Train”

    Happy weekend!

    • 🎶Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine ..When you gonna let me get sober… Leave me alone, let me go home..I wanna go back and start over.🎶 Great lyrics…Steve, I thought as you at first, that he was barefoot, but if you look closely, he’s leaning forward, out of a sandal…No Contessas here! And that man-bun? I called for the CROP!!! Except for that…🎶It’s all fine as wine..🎶 Talk to you later, Bud! 🍷🙋🏻

    • Hi Steve,
I’m a Tom Paxton fan and I really like this song. I don’t know about ice wine around Buffalo but I’ know it’s been made in the Finger Lakes region. Never tried it, though.

      • Ah Caroline, I’m glad you mentioned Tom Paxton’s name. (“Ramblin’ Boy”, “You Know That Was the Last Thing On My Mind”.) That stirred up some nice memories that the lyrics alone didn’t.
Folk music was my bridge from the late 50’s/early 60’s Top 40 songs to the British invasion and then folk-rock and the classic, psychedelic and progressive rock that became the soundtrack of my life. (Some of my friends took the parallel bridge of Delta and Chicago blues to the Rolling Stones but wound up at the same destination.)
There were the big national acts like Peter, Paul and Mary, The Kingston Trio, Gordon Lightfoot, Judy Collins and Bob Dylan, but there were so many others right behind, some of which you’ve mentioned, like Peet Seeger, Hoyt Axton, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Phil Ochs, Steve Earle, John Prine, Buffy Saint-Marie, Eric Andersen, Richie Havens and many more.
What an embarrassment of riches, and what a great time to have lived through.

    • Hey Chuck. Yes it was. Had us all on CLOUD WINE! Have a good night…! 🍷🙋🏻

    • Hi Caroline – Thanks for all that info!
You really made me laugh too – the PEET Seeger was *completely* unintentional! I blame the time change, and all those ‘E’s!

Hoyt Axton wrote a memorable song with the chorus:
“Work your fingers to the bone – whadda ya get?
      Boney Fingers – Boney Fingers”.
He also wrote “Joy to the World” (Three Dog Night), “No No Song” (Ringo), “Greenback Dollar” (Kingston Trio) and “Never Been to Spain”.
