Good Monday morning everyone! Looking back at last weeks puzzles, we saw some very interesting clue word anagrams. EERRTV, FRUGIE, WRTTEE, and GLUEDD were my favorites. My pick for the best cartoon of the week was definitely the STATE OF THE ART drawing. The cartoon featured the state of Alaska and had very intricate relief style details that really made the panel pop. With Jeff and David qiving us quite a brain workout over the course of the week, I’m hopeful that the trend of top notch puzzles will continue!

David told us in his interview that Monday puzzles were easier on purpose so I started the solve with that mindset. POUND, SHYLY and POLICE were all instantly visible. BREEZY required a few glances before I was able to figure it out so it’s my choice for the most difficult word to decipher.

Looking at the cartoon, I immediately felt a feeling of déjà vu. Last Monday’s panel started off with a cooking theme featuring a woman preparing an omelet in her kitchen. Today’s image shows a cooking theme as well, but these professional chefs appear hard at work with each of them doing a different task. Working left to right, we see one chef masterfully handling two skillets on a cooktop. It’s unclear as to what he’s cooking, but the action lines indicate that he’s moving the pans back and forth over a high flame. The woman in the middle is busy whisking something in a bowl as she has a conversation with our third chef who is going to town with some serious cleaver action. If you have a guess as to what ingredient he’s preparing, please let me know in the comments section. My guess would be that it’s beef tartare.

Reading the dialogue and sentence, it was obvious that the 7-letter surprise answer would have something to do with flying. The two P’s brought CHOPPER to mind making it an instant solve. With the puzzle complete, I headed back to the cartoon to check for ay detail that I may have missed. Sure enough there was one detail I overlooked which was the middle chef’s footwear. If you look closely under the prep table and between the bowls, you’ll see she’s rocking some crocs! Have a marvelous Monday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

For your roast beef, I’d even get a haircut…And to keep the larder full, I’d even work…Despite the fact there’s no COOK quite as good lookin’…Didn’t know how much I loved you till I tasted your COOKIN’…🎶

    Are shown today in our cartoon, which concentrates on eats…
    A sous chef SHYLY questions what the Head Chef did before
    He easy BREEZY answers that he flew a lot of tours…
    He’s chopping up what looks like meat, it’s color being brown
    There’s more inside the bowl there too, I’d say it’s 5-6 POUNDs
    Our last word being POLICE, in old movies called a copper
    This pilot who became a chef was/is known as a CHOPPER! 🍛🍛

    Easy, BREEZY old favorite words are on the MENU today! So, we’ll move on to our cartoon, and see what’s COOKING! Jeff has us in a restaurant kitchen, watching three chefs at work. Jeff’s Chefs…cute! The two whose faces we can see, seem happy and friendly. Watching some of today’s reality cooking shows, we know this isn’t always the case though. Some of these chefs are so TEMPeramental right? I mean there’s no MARGARINE for error with these people! I dated a chef a few years ago…Nice enough guy, but a little too KNEADY for my TASTE. Plus he’d come up with so many HALF-BAKED ideas, that after a while we just started having too many petty BEEFs with one another. And soon it all just began to GRATE on my nerves. So feeling the STEAKS were too high, I just decided to CUT him loose. I am glad we remained friends at YEAST. Oh, sorry. I got CURRIED away there for a moment. Ok, let’s KETCHUP, before we run out of THYME. So, our chef today…Funny that he mentions Hawaii. A few years ago, a book came out by a man named Darrell Purdy. Coincidentally, he too was a former helicopter pilot who became a chef. But his book was called “Keyless in Alaska”…not “LOXless in Hawaii”. Hmm..Is Jeff atTEMPting to STIR up a little humor here, or am I just barking up the wrong PEA? Could this be him? I have no SOUS! Maybe Jeff will LETTUCE know. Anyway, our chef tells his sous that he flew tours, and our question tells us he flew a helicopter. So…He was a CHOPPER! Boom! Pass the salt, and Buon Appetito! Good one, Dave! Very CLEAVER! Ok, eye candy…I see a few details here, but WHISK one shall it be?…I like the lines of motion Jeff has drawn around the chefs’ meat cleavers…very moving! All three chefs are blonde, which is odd, but a little bit BLAND. They’re dressed in shades of blue-gray, including our girl’s shoes…no purple today! And the adoring ga-ga look on our girls face does add a little SPICE to the picture, but I think I’ll go with the chef in the back. If you look closely, you can see flames beneath his skillet…I thought that was kind of HOT! So, There you have it Folks, WELL DONE!

  5. Just when I start using the Post Star to see the picture magnified, now I can’t find the Jumble there at all. Did they put it in a new place? Used to be under Entertainment along with the other puzzles!

    • Hi, Clay! Their layout is finicky. Go to the Post Star website. Click the “3-dashes” and choose entertainment. After it loads, go back to the 3-dashes menu again and choose “puzzles and comics”. 😎👍🏻

  8. After the POLICE dog was rescued from the POUND, he no longer behaved SHYLY, and enjoyed a brisk walk in the BREEZY weather.
    Easy solves all round. Perhaps the Jumble Makers are following through on their Monday promise.
    Thanks for the details Mike, in the paper I bought the cartoon is way too small to see very much and today no e-mail and one website had no puzzle. Bummer.

  9. Good morning. Just got back with my son. All three of us can relax now that our taxes are done. As always, thank you Mike and Angela for you great input. Most people that enter an elevator never look at the person entering but focus on the feet. Reason being that we feel uncomfortable looking face to face. When in reality we should mentally make note of height,hair etc. If Mike were to be robbed inside one at least he could tell what shoes the robber wore. Today’s puzzle was a typical Monday solve. I had said awhile back that maybe Jeff let’s us ease into the week with a soft one to get our confidence up. Looks like I hit the nail on the head. The words were a easy solve with Police taking a second glance. Looking at the cartoon that also was an instant solve after seeing the letters. I got a nice grin on my face with the answer. He gave us two clues,one being a helicopter pilot and the other with dicing the meat. Really enjoyed the answer. Until tomorrow stay well.

      Excellent point about the observations. I always look at people face to face and notice details. It’s just something I’ve always done and am not shy about doing it. Another thing I do is notice license plates and make words out of the letters on them. Kinda weird, huh?! It’s like a moving Jumble puzzle! Have a great Monday, Paul!

      • Remember Mike when I said I look but not really look. My wife and I would challenge each other every once in awhile describing a person and my wife would win all the time. She was great at remembering details. If we went out together and separate, I wouldn’t be able to tell you what she was wearing. Not proud of that. She was fantastic.

  13. Hey Lelia, your Coyotes are coming to SJ tomorrow night at 8:30 MST. There’s also another outdoor game happening on March 3, Toronto vs Washington at the US Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD.

    • Hi, Steve! Thanks for the ice hockey info, which sounds fun to watch. I have been keeping my eyes on the ice but it was the Olympic ice. I LOVED watching the ice skaters, both singles and pairs.

      I had to get used to it this year, though, because when the first skater I watched skated so perfectly but near the end took a fall, I burst into tears thinking about how hard that young one had practiced for so many long years.

      I’ve heard some of them say that they relinquished a social life in order to practice. I wish there could be more winners because in my eyes, most of them are winners.

      “We are the champions, my friends …”

      • Ah, I should have known you’d be watching skating. Since the NHL didn’t go to the Olympics, I’m still watching their games. And excuse me for saying, but our amateur Olympic hockey team is probably better to watch than the Coyotes right now (ouch!)
        I caught a little snowboarding and curling, and of course speedskating with its heavily Dutch influence.
        I’m going out shopping. My “song from the ceiling” the other day was Kansas’ “Dust in the Wind” which I hope wasn’t a commentary on the cleanliness of the merchandise.

      • Steve, have to tell you, your joke made me smile, but better for Dust in the Wind to refer to merchandise than to the food you are eating. In the Olive Garden today my songs from the ceiling included Moon River, Dancing Cheek to Cheek, and many wonderful instrumentals.

        Enjoyed some snowboarding & speed skating but missed curling. Right now the women are snowboarding. See ya’!

  14. Hi, all! Just as David promised us in his video, we had an easy Monday Jumble even with BREEZY taking an extra second or two.

    The wonderful cartoon drawing, done so well that the chopping looked animated, brought back memories of eating at an oriental restaurant where the waiter chopped our vegetables right there beside our table.

    I enjoyed seeing those blades FLY (pun intended for our helicopter pilot) and in spite of our frequent warning not to, I tried to do that at home, but to no avail.
