POTTIE = TIPTOE

CARTOON ANSWER:

HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO WIN THE POKER TOURNAMENT, BUT HIS WIFE WASN’T – – –

GITBOEINNTT = BETTING ON IT

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday! Today’s puzzle was a routine solve that gave me no challenge whatsoever. TIPTOE is my pick for the most difficult anagram with SKINNY coming in at a distant second. I only included SKINNY because of the way the anagram was masterfully jumbled. By simply placing the S at the end of the anagram, you probably tried making several other letter combinations first. With all of the clue words complete, I made my way to the cartoon.

If you’re a regular Jumble player, the characters in today’s panel were instantly recognizable. Jumble artist Jeff Knurek and his wife Kathy can be seen having a conversation while their two dogs catch a few ZZZ’s. After reading the sentence and dialogue, the answer instantly came to mind and is what I refer to as a “blind solve”. I always double check my answer by writing out the clue letters, and once I saw the B from BROKE, I knew that my hunch was correct.

Since the puzzle was such a quick solve, I have a challenge for you. Are you up for a friendly little bet? Ok, here it goes. What are the names of Jeff and Kathy’s dogs? I’ve mentioned them a few times in the past so let’s see if you can remember. After you think about it for a minute, you can check your answer (here).

Today is the final day to ask David L. Hoyt a question for his upcoming interview. If you’d like to ask him something, this will be your last chance. We have a bunch of great questions already but there’s always room for a few more. To submit a question, here’s a link to the post (INTERVIEW).

Have a terrific Tuesday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

  1. Good Morning, Mike. I’m giving you a HAND. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Great post…But I already DEALT with the dogs…! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

    • I got skinny right away, but tiptoe was a problem as poetic was a first incorrect thought I had.But you were right that the solution came readily to mind without looking at the jumble letters.

  2. ๐ŸŽถYou got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em. Know when to walk away, know when to run. You never count your money when you’re sittin’ at the table…There’ll be time enough for countin’…when the dealin’s done…๐ŸŽถ

โ™ฃ๏ธโ™ฅ๏ธ When I just a SKINNY little kid of maybe four
I used to watch the men play poker, peeking through the door,
I’d stand on TIPTOEs looking in and listen as they spoke
And hope the game would finish up before my parents woke.
My Father didn’t gamble, my Mother was a saint
But somehow I BROKE all the rules, the little kid of taint…
My love of poker stayed with me and as the years went by
The games would change and uncles turned into these other guys…
I listened and I learned a lot, from GIANTs of the game,
But now it was much higher stakes with rules not all the same.
I took the game for what it was, enjoyable but work,
    You want to be a player…Be a player, not a jerk…
So till this day I listen, always thinking ‘fore I sit
Respect the game, take a deep breath and start…BETTING ON ITโ™ฆ๏ธโ™ ๏ธ

Yesterday’s words were so easy, breezy, I figured we really caught a BREAK. But today, Dave’s just ADDed ON another FOUR OF A KIND. Easy, old FAVORITES. What’s the DEAL here? RUSHing through them real FAST, I glanced over at our cartoon, and there it was. No need to even SEE that the answer was THREE OF A KIND, it was a quick GET AWAY. Are we being SET UP here? I just can’t TELL. Anyway, Jeff’s DRAWING. HAND it to him…Today we SEE that he and his beautiful BETTOR half Kathy are our star PLAYERS. We SEE them at home; their two dogs, Gizmo, BLACK, and Fifi, white, both LAYING DOWN. (If you remember, Jeff doesn’t like KITTYs)! Jeff is on his way OUT, to play POKER. He’s PUT ON one of his trademark Wilco T-Shirts, with a hoodie OVER it. He’s looking good, LOOSE, like a STUD. Kathy’s SUITed up in a purple Indiana sweatshirt, the iconic IU logo STANDING PAT. Yea, it’s iconic, Folks…Even here in NY we know HOOSIER Daddy. Anyway, it looks nice and SOFT. BREAKing away from them, the dialogue’s TELLing us that Jeff plans to STAY out late, because he intends to make the FINAL TABLE; and it won’t PAY OFF for Kathy to wait up. Especially if she may have to WAKE UP early the next day. (I SHOVEd that LAST part in, just a little SPLIT from the READ). As far as Kathy’s concerned though, she feels he’s BLUFFING. I don’t know, I guess Jeff doesn’t usually BRING IN the big bucks. But that’s just my COLD CALL on it, I’d have to CHECK it OUT to know for sure. Anyway, BOTTOM line, she’s not BETTING ON IT! JACKPOT, we’re IN THE MONEY! Good one, Guys! Let’s MARK it DOWN! Ok, time to WRAP this up. Eye candy? Besides Kathy’s laptop, there’s only one thing left. The remote key in Jeff’s right HAND. Yea, that’ll LOCK UP this POST!
So, There you gave it Folks, Done! CHIP, CHIP Hooray!
Have a great day, Everyone! And may the FOURS be with you…! โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

    • You’ve got the dogs reversed. Gizmo has the broken ear and is white. An I DID make final table last night! But got crushed by two pair when my Ace’s didn’t hold up. Then, short-stacked, I went all in and got out kicked. I was was home later than usual though and Kathy was still awake.

      • Ah, Jeff….And this is why we DON’T BET on everything! If I’m not mistaken, I mixed your dogs up last time, too…Maybe I should stick to the KITTYs! Not! I FLOPped on this one…and I’m sure it won’t be the last time!
So, did you really? FINAL TABLE? Tip of the cap, my man, major, major kudos! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
My nickname is ACE…and I got it from making a few “donations” myself, until a COOLER head prevailed. Now, those ACES don’t excite me as much as they used to. And I quickly learned to keep my SHORT STACK for the pancake house! Hey, as long as you enjoyed yourself though, right?
Now, onto a more serious note. Are you going to let that Color Man get away with this sacrilege? IU’s Trident defamed? Hoosier colors dishonored? Jeff, is there NO-LIMIT? Even as a NY’er I’m offended! You have to speak with this THIRD MAN WALKING…Please!
        Congrats again! Good SHOE!

    • LOL..Smart, again? Redundant? Harry, you know “I” know what colors the Hoosiers fly, (I wear my sweatshirt proudly)…and so does Jeff for that matter….but the man with that color pen? He only SEES purple. ‘Tis a problem, that’s why I pointed it OUT!
And sometimes the best of us are TAINTed…๐Ÿ˜‰
Have a good one, Hoosier! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  3. The SKINNY GIANT BROKE his ankle trying to “TIPTOE through the tulips”.
Easy solve today and I did almost exactly what Mike did—blind solve then wrote the letters out to double check.
Thanks for all the details—names, dogs, colours, etc. I do the Jumble every day but sadly don’t pay enough attention to the details in the cartoon. I resolve for 2018 to do so. Let’s see how long that lasts. Fun read Angela, always amazed at the breadth of your knowledge– sports, logos, etc. etc
Have a great Tuesday everyone–I’m enjoying bright sunshine –almost blinding as it reflects from the newly fallen powdery snow.

    • Good Morning, Earl. Thank you very much. You know I take my Sports seriously, you can BET on that…I just started READing everything I got my hands on as a kid, and I always went ALL IN. As for the GAMBLING? We all have our vices…or as I like to say..our NICES! You just got to ๐ŸŽถKnow when to HOLD ‘EM๐ŸŽถ! Loved your sentence…A little Tiny Tim just to SNOW us, huh? Good one!
Now I have a question for you. Or everyone. What the hay is a Blind Solve? I see you all using the term. In POKER we have a BLIND, a BLIND STEAL, a BLIND DEFENSE, a BLIND OFF, even a BLIND STUD! But what’s a Blind Solve????
Enjoy the sunshine, and wear your shades…Those reflections can be BLINDING! ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

      • For me blind solve means writing nothing down. Determining what the scrambled words should be and knowing the solution to the puzzle and perhaps, but not always, writing the circled letters out to check if I am correct.
I only write things out when I am at a loss–happens on Sunday with 6 six letter words and many circled letters.

        • Thanks, Earl. I was never sure. I see everyone using it, but a lot of times the “descriptions” would be different. I couldn’t put my finger on it. Today seemed like a perfect day to ask, with all the poker “blinds” going through my head. So it means just reading it and solving it. Thank you! And you’re right….Some Sunday solutions are real SMHs! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

        • Thanks, John. This is what I meant. It seemed people’s descriptions of it, following saying it were different. Hence my confusion. Have a good night…๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  4. Good Monday morning. Hey wait a darn minute!! It’s Tuesday. What’s going on here. I suspect the MAN is setting us all up for a BIG fall. Today’s jumble was easier than yesterday In a five second span I got the first three words. Since the last word did not immediately come to mind I looked at the cartoon and wam bam instant read. It was just a matter of putting the “T” in the right place. Thanks Mike on who the people were in the picture. It didn’t register with me. Angela great job as usual. You opened up with the gambler song and for a moment I’m trying to figure why? Then like that V8 commercial that you talked about,it hit me square in the forehead. You gave the names of the dogs and here I thought they were Snap,Crackle and since he doesn’t like cats he gave back Pop. Oh well. Until tomorrow stay well everybody.

      • Yes but Thank God I can wait for the trip with the church once a month. Being with friends and playing bingo on the way down is fun.

    • Good Morning, Paul. Thank you. ROTFL….Monday, Tuesday…Every day, you make me laugh out loud! You’re something else! Just Go SLOW with that V8 PLAY, or you’ll end up with the indented forehead like me! ๐Ÿ˜‚ RICE try with the dogs names too…Have a great day, Brooklyn, you’re ACES in my book! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  5. Easy solve here today too. I initially thought of poetic until I realized there were two t’s. Though you’ve mentioned the dogs before, Mike, I couldn’t remember their names. Looking forward to the interview. Have a good day everyone.

    • The puzzle was so easy that I thought a little trivia would be fun. Nobody other than Angela has responded that they remembered their names so I think it was a real stumper. See you tomorrow, Betty! ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Hi All – Easy Jumble, except for backing into tiptoe. Earl’s reference to the tulip song reminded me of an article I read on Tiny Tim, written after his fame had faded. He described himself as a “has-been’s has-been.”
As for the dogs, I couldn’t recall either one’s name. Do we know what breeds or mixes they are?

  7. Hi all – Not much to add on this easy puzzle today. โ€œThe skinny giant broke the pottieโ€? Well of course he did!

Iโ€™ll stop mentioning this soon, but the Chronicleโ€™s colors really outdid themselves today. Jeff has brown hair, Kathyโ€™s hair is the same chocolate color as the dog (so much that I didnโ€™t see the dog), her sweatshirt is burgundy and the entire couch is purple. Nothing at all close to the online Seattle Times version.

    Have a great day!

    • So the Jumble is colored differently in each newspaper? The online version I use shows Jeff as having bright yellow hair, Kathy has a putple sweatshirt and a pink blanket. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

      • Mike, I only have access to two color Jumbles, my printed Chronicle and the online Seattle Times, so all I know is that the colors are different between those two.

Hereโ€™s a link to a comic that may have been inspired by Spider-Man. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Angela, the Eddie Money comment was in yesterdayโ€™s edition of this same cartoon.

    • I tell you, Steve. If it wasn’t for that ACE Sports writing staff, youโ€™d have to dump that paper! They never get the colors right! ๐Ÿ˜‚ You know Kathy’s pictured as a blonde…No, really, she is…๐Ÿ˜‚, and that ๐ŸŽถPurple People Eater๐ŸŽถ Is just awash all through…Kathy and her blanket. The couch, no. A nice shade of beige! The dog’s exact coloring? Not going there….I stepped in the dog —- already once today!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
Talk to you later, Bud! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
