THE ARM WRESTLER WAS ABOUT TO WIN AND HAD THE MATCH – – –

IELNWNDHAL = WELL IN HAND

Good Tuesday morning everyone! I hope your New Year is off to a great start and that you’re ready for another year of fantastic Jumble puzzles. With just over 2.2 million page views last year, we’ve quickly become the world’s largest online resource for help with the Jumble puzzle. Thanks for dropping by day after day to not only get your answers, but to participate in our friendly forum.

Looking at today’s game, the clue words were no problem at all and were on the easier side. GLAND took an extra couple of seconds to come into view so it’s my pick for the most difficult anagram to decipher. With all of the clue words solved it was time for the main event — the cartoon!

We’ve all heard a joke that starts with “Two guys walk into a bar…” and that’s exactly what Jeff captured in his drawing this morning. Two men sitting at a table in a bar and they’re engaged in an arm wrestling match. Reading the dialogue and sentence, we learn that the younger fellow on the left with his hello kitty tattoo and half-mullet hairdo is going to make quick work of his opponent and even has time to order another beer in the middle of the match! Jeff did a superb job illustrating the motion lines around the duos hands and you can tell that the older fellow is all but done for by the look on his face.

We’ve all arm wrestled someone at some point, but I’ve always used my right hand. I’m just curious as to why these men are using their left hands? Are they both lefties or maybe the older man was a lefty and the younger man agreed to use his “weaker” hand to make the match more even. Just pointing it out because you folks know how much I enjoy the fine details!

The surprise answer came almost instantly with HAND being jumbled all together in the letter layout. The two L’s brought WELL into view leaving IN for the finish. Piece of cake!

Have a terrific Tuesday and I hope you’re weather is warmer than the 7 degrees it is here in New Hampshire! I’ll see you tomorrow! 🙂

  1. Good Morning. Mike. And numbers don’t lie! Kudos! Great post. The left handed thing got me too. The leftie that I am! Happy you’re here! ❤️🙋🏻

  2. 🎶Oh, yeah, I tell you something…I think you’ll understand, when I say that something’s…I wanna hold your HAND, I wanna hold your HAND, I wanna hold your HAND…🎶

👊🏻👊🏻 In mostly any GIVEN bar in any given town
You’d run into some guys like this, ones acting like a clown
The alcohol rears up its head, and mixed with bravado
Creates this so called macho man I’m sure you’ve seen him go…
He’s HARDLY that appealing, he’s much more brawn than brains
But he’ll take on just anyone…for these ill gotten gains.
The GLANDs fill with adrenaline, is that the right word here?
I had to fit it in some how, I think my meanings clear…
All sense goes out the WINDOW, it’s all a big Grandstand
The guy is satisfied to feel he’s got it “WELL IN HAND”👊🏻👊🏻

Today’s words didn’t require a lot of STRENGTH to solve. Old favorites…Our cartoon. You know I looked it up, RIGHT? Or should I say LEFT? I came up with a name, but I’m not sure it’s important. The Big Kahuna, the Legend in his own mind, does have a rather distinctive look, so I figured maybe he’s “somebody”. Hmm. If he IS, then maybe I should redo this POST? Be a little more toleRANT, a little less JUDGEMENTal? Ah, I’m tired, and the poem did flow…So Jeff, if I am MUSCLEing in on someone you DO know, I apologize. You know how deeply my tongue is planted in my cheek…Let’s let it SLIDE, ok? So Jeff has us in a bar, or a pub. An obviously experienced ( smile), Arm Wrestler is shown doing what we can imagine to be his normal routine. SMASHing the competition. But take a look at these guys. Pics a little BICEPtive, no? Where’s the parity here? I mean we got Joe FOREARM, and then we got No FOREARM! We got a head full of hair, (with some nice CURLS), and we got a No it’s not there! We got a CHEST that is FULL, and we got a…ok, let’s cut the bull…This is a MIS-MATCH! No BOUT aBOUT it! Tell you what I think…Joe might be asking for the refill, but I think it’s No that’s had a little too much to drink! Poor baby…That old demon rum got to him, huh? Made him think he was in a POSITION to do this…ELBOW! Wake up, Dude! You never had this..Your HEAD STEERed you wrong. The peer PRESSURE got to you…You’re way off BASE…CUTBACK your losses, and just LIMP away. DRAG yourself out of there, before…You know?? Who’s side am I on here? I need to get a GRIP and wrap this up. Ok. so, the question asks..He had the Match…See his hand? Tightly closed?…WELL IN HAND! Fill em up again…I think it’ll be a long night! Ok, eye candy. We have a Dart Board. I made a POINT of noticing…We have the waitress, sweet on Joe. (You can tell). But it has to be the Hello Kitty tat on Joe. Talk aBOUT getting a GRIP! What’s up with that?
So, There you have it Folks, Done!
Have a great day, Everyone! We have the whole WRIST of the year aHEAD of us! 👊🏻🙋🏻

      • Thanks, Bud! ❤️ But I should be so lucky! I have to go until the 6th. Trees all still up..Reindeers still prancing around outside..Gifts still to give. Oh, and the food…! 😂
It doesn’t end in my family until Saturday. The stress? The stress???
America Ferrara on GMA. I couldn’t get to you in time..Sorry. I know we both love Superstore…🙋🏻

        • The tree was out the door and I hauled it to the dump on the 26th!!!

I miss Superstore and am so happy it’s coming back on. I watched LA to Vegas (Fox Channel/on demand) and it was hilarious too. I think it airs again tonight on Fox. You should check it out. 🙂

          • LOL…I know you told me, remember? I was SMH! Is that the show from the same writers as Modern Family? I saw the ads for it. I’m so behind on TV. Too much sports. I’m definitely going to watch it..Superstore kills me! Glenn? I die! All of them actually. I’m happy it’s back too…🙋🏻

  3. Good morning jumble jets. We were handed an extra Christmas gift on this Tuesday like our usual Monday start for the week. Everything was a slam dunk,I didn’t even have to write down the letters to get the cartoon answer. So it was no surprise when the answer was confirmed after writing down the letters. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Hi, Paul! GREAT job on the solve, my friend!!! I don’t hear or use WELL IN HAND, so it took a few seconds to come to me. An easy start to the week usually brings trouble later. Have a super day!!!

      • Thanks Mike. I’m with Angela in leaving the tree up until “little Christmas ” the 6th of January. Mom always had us leave it up until then. Besides it’s nice to sit in the room with just the tree lights on and maybe listening to oldies music. It’s such a nice calming feeling. We had real trees until later on. My brother for years bought a tree that you could plant afterward. Before he moved he had at least six trees with names of relatives that had passed on. Sort of liked that idea.

        • Hey Brooklyn. I think we have to do it. I’m pretty sure there’s a box that’s checked off on the birth certificate…I have to look…! 😂🌲
The planting thing is a beautiful tribute. I love that idea. My Church offered trees this year, outside the grounds. Same sentiment. They went for $250. I thought about it. But then I figured…I could have a ton of Masses said FIR that kind of money, right? The Masses won, HANDS DOWN! Hope you’re having a good day, Paul. Button up! 🙋🏻

        • I never knew you could plant a tree after the holiday was over! My tree was a fire hazard as it was 10 feet from the pellet stove and dry as a bone even though I watered it faithfully twice a day. I highly doubt my tree would come back, but perhaps I’ll try it one year. 🙂

  4. Blind solve, clear sailing on the CWs, though I saw HALYARD before HARDLY!

    Have a great day!

  5. The WINDOW of opportunity for a healthy future was HARDLY in doubt when the youngster was GIVEN a GLAND transplant.
Easy solve today for the clue words and the solution, although I did have to write the letters down before “well in hand” became obvious. I also noticed the left-arms being used and wondered. Seeing a dart board and the disparity in wrestlers, and the phrase “well in hand” I’m wondering if this is a British pub. Could be.
Great job Angela for your comments and bringing out details I couldn’t or didn’t see.
My sentence may be a little strained today, but organ and tissue donation for those who need transplants is a cause I am passionate about.

    • Good Morning, Earl. Thank you very much. Your sentence causes me no problem. I had an Uncle who was lucky enough to get an extra 12 years of healthy life with a heart transplant, and a friend as close as a brother who’s been given a whole new lease with a new kidney. He’s thriving. I’m in your corner. But I’ll tell you what’s not…Your name!! Where’d it go again? Now you see, now you don’t! The elusive butterfly! We’ve got to get to the bottom of this! 😂 Have a great day. Stay warm!
      Ciao, Kind Sir! 👊🏻🙋🏻

      • Not sure why my name does not appesr in my initial posts. I’ll have to double check everything before Imhit Post comment. 🤔 😨

        • Earl. Strangest thing, right? Same thing happened y’day. Just on that first one. Wish I could help you, but it’s got me baffled also. Yes, just be sure you’re seeing your name on that initial post. Good luck! 🙋🏻

  6. Easy solve for both clue words and cartoon this morning. I can’t imagine 7 degree weather. Do bundle up and keep warm. Happy Tuesday everyone.

  7. LOL…Got you both beat! Topping off at 21°! Looking for the bathing suit! 👙😂🙋🏻

  8. You folks are amazing. – truly hearty stock. It was in the high 40’s here a few mornings last week and you should have heard the weather reports “Protect your pets & tender vegetation, etc. etc. etc.”. You would have had a good laugh at us west coast weather wimps. Guess it’s all relative,

    • LOL..Betty, We’d never laugh at you guys…Not over weather anyway! 😂
What choice do we have? Trust me, we do cry! I did just last night coming home…But the tears 😥 froze on my face! It was so much worse! So we bite the bullet and hold it in! 😂 And you’re so right! All the relatives here are freezing! 😂😂 Enjoy your weather…Just think of us once in a while…It’ll make you feel blessed! Take care and hope you have a great day! 🙋🏻

    • I got to thinking about your post, Betty, and was reminded that we had a very minor earthquake a few years ago and everyone talked about it for a month! For you west coast folk, you would have forgotten about it by lunch time. I guess that’s how we deal with this cold. It’s a way of life.

Another storm is on the way with horrific winds and 8-14” of snow predicted. This has me truly worried because the arctic air blast behind it will leave the temperature in the single digits during the day and as cold as -8 overnight. Hoping for the best but preparing for the worst……

  9. Hi all – No real problem with the words or answer today. They’re taking it easy on us after all the festivities.

The detail that jumped out at me was the waitress’ lips and lipstick, and not in a good way. Whoa, Nellie, dial back the color and amount a bit! (You know what a cosmetic expert I am 😂)

The only way I can account for the tattoo is that the waitress’ father owns the bar and her grandfather was a big fan of ‘Gunsmoke’; hence her name is “Kitty” and the guy is her boyfriend (especially since Jeff said he doesn’t like cats.)

Funny that darts showed up – it was on TV yesterday and big news on the BBC: “Rob Cross wins World Darts Championship final after stunning Phil Taylor 7-2.”

Mike, you said you don’t know how the birds stand the bitter cold. I think the answer is that they’re cut from the same sturdy New England cloth as yourself, and they’re saying the same thing about you when you leave the nice warm house to feed them and pick up the Jumble. 🙋🏻‍♂️

Angela the Southpaw, here’s one from LEFT field:
🎵”Oh, komm doch, komm zu mir
    Du nimmst mir den Verstand
Oh, komm doch, komm zu mir
Komm, gib mir deine Hand, Komm, gib mir deine Hand
    Komm, gib mir deine Hand
In deinen armen bin ich glücklich und froh
Das war noch nie bei einer Anderen
Einmal so, Einmal so, Einmal so!”🎵

    • OOC-ROTFL….
🎶Where do I begin…..?🎶 And a Happy New Year to you too, Grasshopper!
Those lips, those fabulous lips…Who’s Nellie? 😂 Steve, remember you were still thinking “Rouge”? LOL…Make-up trends…So not your wheelhouse! And just where is your mind? The tat? Nice scenario. Very nice imagination But if he was going with Miss Kitty in mind…Wayyyyyy Wrong Kitty!!! And just where is your mind?
And as for my German rendition? Danke….”Sie Liebt Dich”….❤️ And just where is your mind…? LOL, Grasshopper…Left Field, indeed! 🙋🏻

    • I saw the birds splashing away again this morning and started to shiver. Now the deer are coming late at night and drinking out of the heated birdbath and eating the seed that has fallen out of the feeder. I usually shoo away the squirrels but it’s so cold and they’re hungry too. All of nature’s creatures are welcome this year. 🙂

  10. Hi, all!
Mike, great to hear from you & read your detailed solve, loved every word.
I had what I call a “John solve” today with immediate solves of the cartoon answer & words.

Mike, thanks again for your wonderful HAPPY NEW YEAR greeting and amazing fireworks display. I called Jerry to my study to see your fireworks and he said thanks, too. Oh, and while Josh was here, he said thank you for your New Year’s Happy Birthday to him.

Your east coat temperature makes me cold just thinking about it because it brings back memories of walking a mile to elementary school in Arkansas in snow, sleet, rain, & hale.

    • Hi Lelia – I saw your comment on yesterday’s page. I know we all eat dirt, and some people do it intentionally, but I think I’ll just stick to GROUND beef – Ptooey!

I hope your chores are done and you got some rest. Thought you might enjoy this hockey note:
“Meanwhile, in Toronto, Marleau has 24 points (15g, 9a) in 40 games and has taken young linemates Auston Mathews and Mitch Marner (both 20) under his wing. The joke is that Marleau, a father of four, now has six kids.
Mathews has 31 points in 30 games. Marner has 29 points in 40 games.
The Sharks will see Marleau and his line on Thursday at Air Canada Center.”

      • Hi, Steve! While you eat your GROUND beef (one of my favorite foods), I will eat DIRTY rice and MUD pie.

Chores not finished but got some good rest.

Loved the hockey note, especially “Marleau, father of 4, now has 6 kids.” How cool it is that he took those 2 under his wing. All 3 of them are doing some potentially record-breaking scoring. Impressive!! Thanks for the info. Enjoy your day!

        • LOL, same to you. Maybe I’ll switch to surf ‘n TURF by having some SAND DABS instead!

    • I called your east COAST temp, COAT temp, Freudian slip, definitely COAT temp. Over my clothes, my mom made me wear a green, thick, zipped up, hooded, long sleeved snow suit with the pant legs tucked into ugly rubber galoshes. I felt like David in the King’s armor.

One day a high school girl passing by said to her friend that she though I looked funny in that green outfit. Her friend said, “Shh! You might hurt her feelings!” To this day I pray blessings on the polite one and try to emulate her behavior.

    • John surely has mastered the “blind solve” so I agree we should change the name in his honor! 😉

I hope Josh had a fantastic birthday and was so happy to hear his response from you. I thought the fireworks were delightful and were worthy of a separate post.

I can’t imagine walking to school is such extreme temperatures. Were there no buses back then? You must have dreaded the thought of having to walk all the way back when the school day was over.

I hope you like the new layout and that it’s easy on your eyes. Is the text too small? I had you in mind and almost made it larger but decided to hold off before hearing from you. Please let me know and I’ll try and sort it out if it’s a problem.

All my best, as always! 😊😊😊

  11. Easy one today, except I missed so much in the drawing. Reading Earl’s support for transplants, I remembered that Jeff was a kidney donor. Mike, I like the new top – very colorful and modern.

  12. TMI . . . simply provide the answers and limit the personal chatter . . . does anyone care what arm one uses to wrestle???
