TONINO – NOTION

EPTREM – TEMPER

CARTOON ANSWER:

RESTAURANTS IN TOKYO SELL SUSHI TO CUSTOMERS WHO – –

HYAFAVOINTEER – HAVE A YEN FOR IT

Good Morning, Everyone! ย ๐Ÿฃย SUSHI, OR NOT SUSHITHAT IS THE QUESTION..”๐Ÿฃ

๐ŸŽถWake up little SUSHI, wake up…Wake up little SUSHI…wake up. The food didn’t have to be hot, we didn’t even need a pot. Chopsticks in hand, nothing is cooked…a Spider Roll we got…Wake up, little SUSHI…we gotta go home…๐ŸŽถ

๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿฃ I’ve never been to Tokyo although my friends have been
I’ve never eaten sushi, and never will I yen
My friends laugh like HYENAs at my attitude towards it
Shasimi don’t come near me…Maki, no doubt of it…
I FAVOR food that’s all been cooked, trust I don’t have a NOTION
To eat a California Roll that’s dipped in some weird potion.
I’m looking at the word TEMPER and thinking how much better
If Dave could have spelled Tempura, but he’d need one more letter…
So I’ll make jokes and use a pun, but there’ll be no regret
The Sushi thing? Nope, no way will I HAVE A YEN FOR IT!๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿฃ

So, today’s words. HYENA may be the only one that looks a little funny. Not that I was RAWin over the others, it’s just that we’ve seen them before. (Like TONINO,ย he’s my cousin)! Anyway, onto our cartoon..SUSHI said. Today, Jeff’s taken us to a SUSHI bar in Tokyo…Oh no. Not me. It’s 5 o’clock in the morning, and just the thought of RAW FISH has me…UDON know…It’s just not my cup of TEA. But, I’ll ROLL with the CRUNCHs, and get this done. We see a couple paying their bill, the man saying that they “were thinking about it all day”. He’s wearing a Stray Cats T-Shirt. Since The Stray Cats will be performing in Tokyo next month, this may be a ROLL out promotion. I have no idEEL. Anyway, we also have three diners, with one saying , “I’m buying”. And then we have a chef, and all that SUSHI. Jeff? Chef? Help me out here…What’s he cooking? I’m so out of my EELement, I really don’t know how MATCHA more I can take…Folks, I’m just going to WRAP this up. TEMAKI a long story short…He thought about the SUSHI…He had a YEN for it. She’s paying for the SUSHI..She had a YEN for it…Our question..Selling to customers who…“HAVE A YEN FOR IT“! Cute pun, Dave. And SOY awesome, because we have that double meaning. YEN-YEN…It’s just ROE cool! Ok, Eye candy. Jeff, you’ve done a great job with the deTAILS, but this isn’t how I ROLL. Soย I’m just going to mention, that even in Tokyo, 2 of the 4 women are in purple…hard to igNORI…So, there you have it Folks…UnDONE!
Have a great day, Everyone! And Jumble Guys, even though today you didn’t have me at HILAW, I still KURA lot about you both…๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  1. Wow…..Today was a challenge eh? Angela, I see you are up and at it early again, thanks. Especially like the cousin bit. Liked being the first one to RATE THIS. Backed into most of it. HP had to work his HB off today!

    • Good Morning, Early Bird! You’re very welcome.
I thought it was great! Just took one look, and YEN I had it! And how’d I just know you’d enjoy the Italian reference! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks for the shout out and the rating.
So, HB? Hoosier Brain? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Have a good one, Harry. ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

    • Good Morning, Big Guy. Are we freezing, or what? Funny how we forget from one winter to the next what it feels like! ๐Ÿ˜‚ It’s RAW out there! Notion made me laugh. I couldn’t get Nino out of my head! Stay warm and safe! Talk to you later! ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  2. The HYENA is notorious for its nasty TEMPER and the guide did our group a FAVOR in steering us away when our curious NOTION drew us too close.
Clue words were simple and after I wrote out the letters and studied the cartoon—well it wasn’t long before I had the solution. Clever play on the double meaning for YEN as Angela pointed out in her excellent post. Sorry Angela, most of your sushi references were lost on me—not a patron of sushi bars or sushi.
I wonder how long it will take us, meaning New Yorkers, to get used to this arctic weather? Sigh, another day, another sub-zero wind chill morning with the real temps close to zero as well.

    • Good Morning, Earl. And thank you very much. I thought the same thing…It’s not like we haven’t been through this before! We’re all in denial! ๐Ÿ˜‚ The Yen-Yen was brilliant, right? It immediately got me thinking of more of the same…I get like a dog with a bone! As for the sushi references? All SHARKS in the dark! I’ve never done Sushi and I’m convinced the words can be etched on my tombstone…No YEN! I knew some of the names because my friends partake, and the rest I just looked up. The ones I saw I could pun with, I went with. There were a lot, too…But most of them had pictures, and sufRICE to say…I left a lot of them on the plate! ๐Ÿ˜‚
Your sentence, Sir, as always, a gem!
Stay warm, listen to Norah! Have a great day! ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

    • 5 below zero, wind chill– Minus 25 degs. At least it’s sunny. Have a good day, and try to stay warm.

      • You’re at -25? YIKES!! I have no idea where we are. I’m going to check…
        You stay warm too. ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

      • Big Guy, I really had to check. We’re at 13ยฐ, with the WC at -11. You got me way beat! Maybe I should sell, huh? ๐Ÿ˜‚ I just know I went to get stuff out of the car this morning, and my hands almost stuck to the trunk!
        Ah, NY, NY! ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  3. Good morning. Angela great job and unlike you, they should call me Mikey because I’ll try anything. In my household growing up if you didn’t eat what was on your plate for supper you got it for breakfast and so on until it was gone. My youngest ones took me to one sushi place and I enjoyed it. Half of my family loves it. My heads not in the right place because I only got one word. I was going to give up on the cartoon too but after a second look it clicked as to the answer. It was simple and all the clues were there. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Paul! You kill me! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I’m ROTFL..Same here! And you’d think that after 3-4 times of eating cold, what I didn’t want the night before hot, I’d learn! No, no way! I figured “one of these days he’s gonna cave”! But the man was relentless! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ And that’s why today, I’m calling the shots! LOL..If I don’t like the way it looks, I’m not going into a relationship with it! Period! ๐Ÿ˜‚ The puzzle? Piece of SUSHI! And, I think you’re right. Today, the solution was EASIER TO SWALLOW then the words.
Have a great day, Paul, and Mangia! ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปv

      • Now you have me laughing. My thought on that is that at least I’ll try it to see how it taste. One of my sons five boys just won’t even see if it’s good. They softened up somewhat as at least they will try it now. Lima beans I hated as a kid. I use to gag because it reminded me of stepping on a roach, water bug and hearing that crunch noise. But now every once in awhile if someone makes it I’ll have a little. Same thing with farina soup. Reminded me of goose bumps you get when your cold or scared. Now I like it even though it’s been maybe thirty years since I had it last. By the way that was supposed to be Mikey likes it.

        • Paul, We’ll be the hyenas before the day is done, because I literally laugh out loud at your comments! I don’t eat Lima beans. Italians are big on Cannellinis, (I make a killer Pasta Fagioli)๐Ÿ˜‰, but if I did, you’d probably have me swearing them off after today! You know me and bugs! ๐Ÿ˜‚ And I just made Farina for the kids the other day! I’ll still eat it… The goose bumps I can live with! You’re ok, Brooklyn, you always get be laughing! Hope you’re keeping warm. My cousins in Bath Beach said they couldn’t even open the back door, the winds were wailing! (And I had a feeling it was Mikey…I’ll fix it..I just thought for a minute there you might know Miley Cyrus…now THERE’S a girl who’d try anything)! Take care, Bud! ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  4. Paul! I’m sorry! You had me going, and I failed to say Thank you!
    Tks, Brooklyn! ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

    • Oh my God. No big deal Don’t even have to respond, not expecting it. All the other beans, cannelloni, chick peas red beans, I make a salad with them.It was just the Lima beans. As to Miley, can’t stand her.

      • I agree. She was so sweet as a kid, but made such a radical change. Ciao! ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  5. Hi all – HYENA took an extra look. I didnโ€™t see the answer until I saw the couple paying with paper bills (what a low-tech thing to do in Tokyo!) which made YEN obvious. I wonโ€™t use the โ€œSushi Girlโ€ by The Tubes reference yet again; itโ€™s gone all stale from overuse.

I once worked with a man whose daughter was bitten by a hyena. Howโ€™s *that* for obscure (and irrelevant) trivia? Stay warm, everyone.

Lelia, I enjoyed hearing about your family games and activities, sounds like good classic fun!
Harry and Lelia, about your mother-in-law joke yesterday:
When I was about 13 and my brother was in the service overseas, I was standing in the kitchen one day with his fiancรฉe and my mother when the song โ€œMother-in-lawโ€ by Ernie K-Doe came on the radio. You know,
    ๐ŸŽตโ€œThe worst person I know, mother-in-law, mother-in-law
She worries me so, mother-in-law, mother-in-law
If sheโ€™d leave us alone, we would have a happy home….
She thinks her advice is a contribution
But if she leaves that will be a solutionโ€๐ŸŽต

For a second we just looked at each other and then all burst out laughing.

    • Hey Grasshopper: I did a little tic at Hyena myself. Great anagram on a 5 letter word. The Sushi Girl? Poor thing was “stale” when she first saw the light of day! I remember it was one I’d never heard…and then I knew why! ๐Ÿ˜‚ “Sushi Girl..meet Miley…” I always liked ๐ŸŽถMother-in-law๐ŸŽถ. It was “different”. ( But the shout out was to Betty…) And thanks, we’re doing our best to keep warm here…The struggle is real….๐Ÿ˜‚
Talk to you later, Bud! ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

    • HI, all! Solved the cartoon answer first. Didnโ€™t have trouble with the words.

Steve, yes. we have had great fun playing games. Daughter made us start playing a game right after breakfast today, we just finished, and Iโ€™m starving for lunch.

Made Josh very happy yesterday by buying him a new laptop to replace the one I bought for him 6 years ago.

      Mother-in-law song, funny! Thanks.

Off to Top Shelf for lunch.

      • No wonder Josh likes coming to see you! Canโ€™t think of a more excellent bribe than that!
Going to a hockey-themed sports bar for lunch, eh? Excellent! ๐Ÿ˜‚
        โ€œTop shelfย
The upper area of the goal, just below the crossbar and above the goaltender’s shoulders. Also known colloquially as “where momma hides the cookies,” a phrase popularized by announcer Rick Jeanneret.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

      • Hi Lelia. I think everyone had an easy time with the cartoon today. It was really well done! Enjoy your outing! ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

      • …and when they get a load of the temperature difference between Toronto and Glendale, you might not be able to get rid of them!
