CARTOON ANSWER:

TRACK STAR USAIN BOLT DREAMED OF BREAKING RECORDS WHEN HE WAS – – –

SPTEFALEAS = FAST ASLEEP

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday! As we sprint towards the end of the week, let’s see if David and Jeff gave us any hurdles to overcome before we make it to the finish line.

All of the clue words came instantly this morning and I honestly thought I was going to set a world’s record for the fastest completion time of a Jumble puzzle. Looking at the cartoon, I was able to blind solve this one with FAST ASLEEP coming to mind in no time flat.

Being forced to type out the clue letters every morning for my post, I started plugging away at the letters but something wasn’t right. I had all of the letters for FAST but my remaining letters of ENLEPS surely didn’t spell SLEEP. That hurdle I mentioned in the opening line of my post was intentionally written to reflect the trouble I had with one of the words.

Since I thought FLANNEL had two N’s when I first encountered it, I figured it was the word that was spelled incorrectly. Backing into it, and much to my surprise, it wasn’t FLANEL at all but FALLEN! I guess I should have paced myself with the solve proving the old adage of slow and steady wins the race truly is sage advice.

With that mess of a solve behind me, I noticed something very interesting in Jeff’s cartoon. Above Usain’s head, there are 9 (presumably gold) medals hanging. Doing a quick search, I discovered that he had indeed won 9 gold medals but 1 of them was taken from him by the IOC due to his partner testing positive for a banned substance leaving his official gold medal count at 8.

I hope everyone has a terrific Thursday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

  1. Good morning, Mike. You got some really good ones in here! Great job! And I’m loving the little Snowman…๐ŸŽ–๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

    • I was confused on flannel vs fallen as well, and stumped by uneasy. But when I solved the puzzle w fast asleep,I could piece together the uneasy solve as well.

      • Good morning, Chuck. For a brief FLEETing moment I saw FLANNEL also this morning, but I think it was because itโ€™s so cold here in NY. Weโ€™re freezing! UNEASY solve? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Good one! Youโ€™re becoming a man after my own heart! Keep โ€˜em coming! Youโ€™re off to a great START! Definitely in the RUNNING to attain the STATURE of a true punster! Have a great day! ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  2. ๐ŸŽถAnd I wa-wa-wa-wa-wonder…Why…Ah-why-why-why-why-why she ran away….And I wonder where she will stay…My little RUNAWAY run-run-run-run-RUNAWAY…A-run-run-run-run-RUNAWAY…

๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€Usain Bolt lying in bed, his mind seems so at ease
The man is only 6’5″, this blanket thing…A TEASE?
He’s FALLEN into a deep sleep, he’s dreaming we can see
His nocturnal adventure…well it’s nothing UNEASY!
He’s dreaming of the Lightning Bolt, the dance carrying his name
He does it after all his wins…This man who’s captured fame.
No one has SPURNed his prowess, Olympian par none
Look up above his headboard..Eight gold medals that he’s won…
The fastest man, the greatest, are all names that he now keeps
He dreams the dreams of Champions…Usain is “FAST ASLEEP”๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€

Today’s words are the stuff DREAMS are made of. I just RAN right through them, and REACHed our cartoon. And the cartoon is no SLEEPER! Straight to the point, a gift! Jeff gives us Usain Bolt, asleep and dreaming. He’s smiling, and you know those are no FLEETing thoughts causing it! He sees himself, doing that victory dance of his, and he’s definitely in a happy PACE! The man is FAST, the mans ASLEEP…”FAST ASLEEP”! Could this be any easier? A regular WALK in the park! Or a RUN in the park! Great job, Guys! Another WINNER!

Ok, eye candy. I’m going with the Lightning BOLT on the headboard. It’s a RUNAWAY! So, There you have it Folks, Done!
Have a great day, Everyone! Get out there and go the DISTANCE…You’ll be happy in the LONG RUN! ๐ŸŽ–๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

      • Thanks, Bud. I didn’t count! I just went with the story about the forfeiture of the 9th with the drug issue. I’m going to go back and look! LOL….๐ŸŽ–๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

      • LOL….๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Left in the dust? You’re RUNNING all the way to the bank with this one, huh? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

        • Iโ€™m in a good mood because of 2-words……… STAR WARS!!! I was so excited this morning that I woke everyone up doing lightsaber noises as I went into their rooms. ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿคช๐Ÿคช

          • Yes, I know. I have one here. We had to let him eat breakfast out in the snow this morning in an effort to cool him off! ๐Ÿ˜‚. Grown man going around acting like a maniac! I figure by tonight weโ€™ll have to sedate him!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

      • 19 degs, and very windy. Wind chill is in single digits. Luckily, we only had a dusting of snow. Also sunny, which helps. Have a great day, and stay warm .

        • Hey Moose. Way down here itโ€™s reached 30! A heat wave! The sun came out and the 2 inches we got is beginning to disappear. The windโ€™s still blowing, but it could be worse! Stay warm, Big Guy! ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  3. Good morning. Hey,you guys are making me feel like I should be sitting in a corner with a dunce cap on. I guess I just wasn’t into it this morning. Was stumped on the last word and looked it up. Once I saw it I couldn’t believe I missed such an “easy” word. Then I gave up on the cartoon. I guess I should still be fast asleep for all the good I did on this easy puzzle. But I have no fear as tomorrow brings another challenge and speaking of tomorrow stay well.

    • Donโ€™t sit in the corner, Paul! 2K other people have already visited this morning proving that todayโ€™s puzzle was no pushover. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

  4. UNEASY is the man who has FALLEN for a lady only to have her SPURN him and TEASE him relentlessly.
Like Mike (no pun/rhyme intended} I also thought one word was flannel and then realised that the scrambled letters would not allow that—hence FALLEN. The rest was easy breezy today—very much like the gale force winds we have had for the last two days–shivering wherever I go. Could use some tropical heat from Bolt’s home country.
I composed my sentence before I read your post Angela. It seems we were somewhat in sync with the “Runaway” idea—although I suspect you got the RUN idea from the cartoon and Usain Bolt. Great job from you and Mikie.
Stay warm–those of you in the northeast.

    • Good morning, Earl. Thank you so much.
Yes, as soon as RUN FLEW BY me, I immediately thought of Del Shannon and the classic. I guess our difference being Del’s LOSING the girl, while your’s isn’t even in the RUNNING, huh?
Poor baby! (The guy in your sentence, not you)! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Unrequited love…I guess we’ve all been in his SHOES at least once. Let’s hope he gets back on TRACK with the next woman!
We have cold, and wind, and snow here also. Your BOLT comment’s a good one! Have a great day! WARMly, your Friend, Angela….๐ŸŽ–โ›„๏ธ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  5. Like Paul, I had a little trouble with uneasy as well as tease. Fast came to me first.
Not sure what “little snowman” is referring to. Wishing all a great day.

  6. Uneasy was the one word that took me the longest to solve. Like yesterday, I figured out the answer and worked backwards on that one. I’ve been tripped up before by fallen seeing it as flannel but not this time. Picture in my paper is too small to determine the number of medals. Happy Thursday everyone. Sorry it’s so cold where you folks live. It’s supposed to be in the 60’s here today which I suppose is positively balmy by your standards. We need rain!! Have a good Thursday!

    • Ah, Betty. Sigh…Balmy is right! I wish I could give you some of our precipitation! Have a great day! โ›„๏ธ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป

  7. Hi all – TEASE took an extra bit after thinking โ€œtastyโ€, then there was a hitch at word 3 like everyone else. I thought the answer would end in ING, but since the letters werenโ€™t right, I saw ASLEEP and then FAST.

In *my* dream, I became UNEASY when I noticed my FENNEL-print FLANNEL pajamas had FALLEN.

For me, the โ€œlittle snowmanโ€ shows up in the tab for the page at the top of the browser window.

Angela, speaking of โ€œRunawayโ€, – if youโ€™ve never seen the harmonica GENIUS Norton Buffalo perform the break from that song, do yourselves a huge favor and go watch Youtube โ€œBonnie Raitt – Runaway (Live 1977)โ€. In an astonishing performance, he runs through at least four differently-keyed harps, changing at each phrase!

    Have a great day!

    • The imagery! TMI!! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I love Fennel. This may have me re-thinking it…๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

  8. Blind solve and quick work on the CWs, too. Funny thing on FALLEN, though; I saw FLANNEL too, first.
