Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday! There’s so much to wrap your head around in today’s puzzle that I hope I don’t forget anything. So let’s get Kraken and start right at the top!

Is Mr. Hoyt a Star Trek fan? At first glance I thought NEMOY was a tip of the hat to Leonard NIMOY but the spelling was off. Thinking a little more, the first 4-letters spell NEMO as in Captain Nemo from the Jules Verne novel “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea”. I’m not sure if David planned his jumble that way or if it was just a coincidence. Looking at the rest of the completed clue words, they all seem to have an ocean theme. DIGIT might be a stretch for octopus tentacles, but GRITTY and QUENCH sure do fit! Speaking of GRITTY, it was the only word to give me a slight pause so it’ll be my choice for the most difficult anagram to decipher.

Floating along to the cartoon, Jeff went into detail overdrive with an octopus holding eight different food items. Going clockwise, they are a fish, ice cream cone, hamburger, sushi, hot dog, fish sandwich, pizza, and a shrimp. The only dialogue was the octopus stating “I love sushi” so I was left to rely upon the cartoon sentence for the solve. Picking up on tentacles, we all know that an octopus has eight of them. Sure enough, EIGHT was in my clue letters leaving DINNER to be found instantly. Interestingly, the letter layout also spelled out INGREDIENT with an H to spare!

Today’s Jumble is a perfect example of why this game continues to capture my attention day after day. Have a terrific Tuesday my friends and I’ll see you tomorrow!

    An octopus’ tentacles as Arms are Six not Eight
    The other two appendages are Legs…Lets get it straight!
    The cartoon’s cute…The solve today? It may not be a winner
    It should be Six. So can we say…that this guy “EIGHT his DINNER”? 🐙🐒

    Todays words are nothing to get TIED UP in, and I can’t help thINKing that we’ve seen them all before. But the solution? I know I’m really going out on a LIMB here, but I can’t KELP it. You know I’m such a STICKler for details. We all may know that an Octopus has Eight Tentacles, but only Six serve as Arms. I’m not SQUIDding! I have to HAND it to Jeff, the cartoon’s a Gourmands delight, but the wording is a tad deSEAving. SEA, here I was early this morning, thINKing I might stay in bed and CUTTLE for a while. But I have so much to do, so I figured I may as well get KRAKEN. I got my FEET on the floor, went through my routine, and then my thoughts were OCTOPIED with the puzzle. So, I got settled, well ARMED with my paper, my iPad and my coffee, and I was REEDy to SEAS the day! And then I read, and I’m like…well a little put off. Not up in ARMS or anything, but a tad under WATER. Something was off, but I couldn’t put my FINGER on it. I solved the puzzle, and anyone can SEA the Eight Tentacles, but something was still GNAWing at me. And that’s when I remembered REEDing about the Eight vs Six. Six serve as ARMS, and the other Two as LEGS for movement. Anyway, I suppose the Octopus can eat with all Eight. Kind of deFEETs the PORPOISE, but hey…So, from left to right, we have a Catfish, Pizza, Fish sandwich, a Hot Dog, a Can (of SEAfood I suppose), an Ice Cream Cone, a Hamburger,and a plain old Fish. He…”EIGHT” his DINNER…Great pun, Dave. Ok, eye candy. Today we’re SWIMMING in possibilities! BUOY, is there a lot to SEA! But I’m not going to go FISHing around amongst the food. Way in back, shaded in black, right in the center? I believe its a Shipwreck. Now THAT FLOATS my BOAT! ….So, there you have it Folks, Done!

  4. Mike. Now I SUSHI the SUSHI that EYE took as a can! Great eye! And the SHRIMP may be another BIG overSIGHT of mine. EYE saw a catFISH. I’ll have to STAND corrected on this one! But I did have fun with it. I couldn’t FATHOM my day without the Jumble! Have a grEIGHT day, Bud! 🐙🙋🏻

    • Now you’ve got me thinking…. The shrimp could be a prawn. And why no lobster or oyster? Hmmmm….. The impracticality of a pizza slice, hot dog and a hamburger under water were excellent choices by Jeff. It gave it a whimsical “cartoony” feel. 🙂

        • Nothing against Jeff, but I do miss the artistic style of Henri Arnold sometimes. Maybe Jeff should do a weeks worth of puzzles in that retro style. That would be something to see!!!

          • I have a bunch of them saved because they’re ones my Father did. I tried saving anything with his handwriting. If I have the “courage”, I’m going to dig them out and I’ll send you the pictures….But this is definitely not the right time of 💔 year! Maybe after the Holidays…🐙🙋🏻

      • I spent my first year drawing the Jumble in Henri Arnold’s style. He had 48 years of Jumbles and you can see them in the tons of books out there. I’ll stick with my style if you don’t mind.

  5. Good morning. Enjoyed everyone’s comments and it was an interesting thought about the first word. Now that you said that Mike, I think Jeff was thinking along those lines. The words were easy and yes my choice for the most difficult was gritty. I drew a blank on the cartoon answer and went back to it three times before it clicked. All and all, a fun puzzle. Angelia,there was no catering hall across from the Marlboro theater. Right now I have a senior moment and only have a vague idea of where it was. Until tomorrow stay well

    • Hey Paul. Good Morning, and thank you. I picture this place in my head so vividly. I’m going to ask my cousins who hung out with me. A bunch of them are still in Brooklyn. Maybe they’ll know what I’m thinking of…Oh. Maybe it was on 86th St!

  6. In his quest to QUENCH his lust for MONEY at the casino, the GRITTY contractor liked to use his largest DIGIT to keep the slots moving.

    Easy word solve today and once I studied the cartoon and the EIGHT came into view the rest was child’s play.
    Appreciate the details Mike—I can’t see all those things in my newspaper–yes I am back to buying a paper on some days. So it’s black and white and I could use a magnifying glass to see some stuff.
    I’ll not attempt any puns today, Mike and Angela seemed to have that field covered and Harry is right on the eight ball with his posts. Well done everyone.
    Snow up here this AM and more to come this PM. Winter has arrived meterorlogically if not chronologically.

    Angela, an especially perfect choice of song with the Beatles’ Octopus’s Garden. You probably know that the movie “Help!” originally had a working title of “Eight Arms to Hold You”, which is even noted on the label of the 45 single of “Ticket To Ride/Yes It Is”. Maybe that even inspired “Eight Days A Week” – not sure of the timing.
    Oh, also, “I think we think too much”? “Ya think??” 😂😂

  11. I was taught that the octipus has 8 arms, No tentacles and no feet. was I taught wrong? cephalopods have 8 arms and 2 tentacles. If dear old Henri is still alive maybe he could guest for a week and draw in Jeff’s style!

  12. Angelia,the Marlboro theater was on 18th Ave and around 63-61 street in Brooklyn. The Italian boys from bocce all had 18th Ave like I thought.

    • Hey Paul. My cousin’s telling me the Marlboro was on Bay Parkway. And the Cotillion Terrace that I’m thinking of was on 18th Avenue. I’m more confused than ever…We need to ask those Bocce Boys again,,,🙋🏻

  13. I said Bay Parkway first and they all said 18th Ave. I thought either one that’s why I had to check first. Who knows thereall long gone. One of these days I’ll have to take a ride and know for sure.

    • I think you’re right Paul. I’m going to look it up, there has to be info out there. My cousin said it was shuttered for a long time and he thinks they made a CVS there about 10-15 years ago. Now he’s not sure. I’ll let you know what I find. Now it’s just a question of curiosity got the…best of me! 😂 Stay tuned Brooklyn…! 😉🙋🏻

  14. Angelia,I thought I sent something earlier but I don’t see it. That sounds right about the Marlboro. More like fifteen years at least when they closed From there I went to the UA theater by the belt parkway near the sewer plant and boat yards.

    • Hey Paul. I meant to look it up, but I haven’t had a chance yet. I am going to tho. The UA is the multi plex right? I’ve only been there once. News saying we’re having a 45° drop in temps within the past 18 hours. I know it’s gotten very windy here. How cold is it going to get??? 💨💨🙋🏻
