Good morning everyone and happy Monday! Mr. Hoyt, our Jumble wordsmith, decided to start the week off with some interesting clue word choices. DOILY and ROTATE both took an extra second to figure out but neither word posed much of a challenge. I’m going out on a limb by picking ROTATE as the most difficult anagram, but it could very well be DOILY. With all of the clue words out of the way, it was time to move on to the cartoon.
Mr. Knurek is definitely in the holiday spirit with his first Christmas cartoon of the season! Looking at just the cartoon, we see a group of 6 characters that are in the process of decorating their Christmas tree. Reading the dialogue and sentence we learn that two of the characters are named Poppy and Lee Lee and they have a tradition of decorating the tree together. Alarm bells were ringing in my head upon seeing the unique wording of the sentence bringing “grandchildren” instantly to mind. Looking at the letter layout, GRAND was in there leaving a simple 4-letter jumble of TIME for the finish.
This quick Monday puzzle may not have been much of a stumper, but the charming cartoon leaves you with a warm feeling that only happens this time of year. Have a magnificent Monday and I’ll see you tomorrow! 🙂

I agree with you Mike about the most difficult words–although ROTATE took longer for me to solve than DOILY. The solution today came quickly once I wrote down the circled letters. Great cartoon and grand play on words.
Volunteer day until late afternoon so I’ll turn off the iPad and get to work.

Today’s words were ok for a Monday, no PINING over them. Nothing FRESH, though. I think we’ve seen Doily a few months ago. It’s an old time word, and I had a bit of a problem working it into the poeTREE. The cartoon is a nice Holiday scene. I’m SCENTsing that the characters are once again, “real” people being Jumbled by Jeff. Their identities? I’m up a TREE! But the setting is sweet. Grandparents decorating with their four grandchildren. And they’re having a BALL! Tradition. Never gets OLD! (Something else does, though…Every female in the frame? No, I’m not going to NEEDLE Jeff again. It’s not his fault, anyway…He PUTs UP the cartoon, but he doesn’t COLOR. But boy, does it need some SPRUCEing up)! Anyway, you can see the chemisTREE amongst the group, and how they’re enJOYing themselves..GRANDparents…GRANDchildren…They’re having a “GRAND TIME”! Cute pun, Dave. DeLIGHTFUL! Ok, eye candy. I like the Angel the little girl is holding. But if you look real closely, she has a gap in her front teeth! How cute is that? Jeff, take a BOUGH! Such detail…

Good afternoon. First chance to post. Been running around with my son before he goes to work. Like Mike and most others I was stuck on the same words. Rotate was the final word to get. When it came to the cartoon answer I had “Great Mind” first. Knew it wasn’t right so I went back to the drawing board and came up with the right answer. Angela,we bought our Christmas trees at the Foster Ave market. One year when things were tight, I forgot the price but I didn’t really want to spend that much and when the guy tied it to my station wagon and never came back for the money. (Fast enough for me) I took off but after five minutes I felt guilty and went back. Don’t know if he was telling the truth but he said somebody was trying to catch me. After explaining things were tight that year he cut the price in half. I felt so much better going back. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it. Peace on earth and goodwill to all.
Hey Paul. My Father never drove, so we “hoofed” it everywhere as we said in Brooklyn. We’d walk to Coney Island Avenue and Avenue U, near the old Mayfair Theater I think it was. Am I right about that? The Mayfair? I was really little. Do you remember Avenue U in its heyday? It was something else. Now, uh…Whatever.

Angela you have to be in 7th heaven with Giancarlo Stanton now a Yankee. The summer games should be fun to watch. Guess if the Mets are boring I’m gonna have to switch channels. But not full time. Only started to put them on once in awhile maybe 10-15 years ago.
Paul Actually, I didn’t think I was hearing right at first. I was dumping out a huge pot of lasagna, and got so distracted that I splashed the boiling water all over myself. Hey Paul. Talk about small worlds! I was just there Saturday night! I was on my way into Brooklyn Saturday night for a party, but stopped at the Inn first because a group of family and friends were having a party there. I had a drink with them and hung out a while. We go there all the time for dinner and dancing. We’ve had a slew of parties and weddings there. And how cool that you went now that it’s decorated for Christmas! How beautiful does it look, right? It’s like you step out of the city. Such a quaint place. We’ve stayed across at the little B&B a few times too. A little frou frou for my taste, but it’s a nice quick little romantic get away. I can’t believe the coincidence!
The lasagna came out delicious, if I do say so myself. I made it to bring into Brooklyn, and I made 5 trays. You know I was keeping one here for myself! 😂.

Agelia,want to laugh some more. My sister -in-law who had the 25th was also there saturday upstairs in the same room for a wedding. That movie was to far up. We went to the Marine or Brook theater Flatlands Ave +Flatbush Ave ,Flatbush +Kingshighway.
Paul, the world is forever getting smaller and smaller. That’s a coincidence! Be honest though, with the Inn, after a drink or two, can you find the other rooms? 😂 You could spend half the night walking around looking for someone, and never come across them! The place can be like a maze!
So you were no where near Avenue U. I was born there on the Avenue. On the East side. On the East side of Ocean Parkway. The dividing line! 😉 Growing up we called the West side, the Rat side. Who knows why, just was. I thought you were near Marine Park. When I got older, I went to the theaters you’re talking about. And wasn’t there a theater on Coney Island Avenue and Kings Highway? The Kingsway, maybe? We had a lot of theaters right? 🙋🏻
Angela,closer to Flatbush and Kingshighway. Went to that theater plus college at the junction where you get the train. Was a head usher at Marine theater and did security at the Marboro theater for the longest time. Always had two,three jobs to support my family. Worked sample sales in Manhattan. Private sanitation,junk yard with inlaws and others.
The Marlboro Theater I remember better than the Marine. Was there a catering hall across the street from the Marlboro? Cotillion something? Or do I have the wrong neighborhood?
