Good morning everyone and happy Thursday! The clue word choices were excellent this morning with MAMBO taking a few extra seconds to see. I’m not sure which word would be the most difficult so I’ll leave it up to you to let us know. With Mr. Hoyt’s brain warm-up complete, he passes us off to his partner to continue our Jumble fitness program.

Looking at Mr. Knurek’s cartoon, we see two women about to begin their cardiovascular workout on a treadmill. They look about as happy as I do when I’m about to hit the start button, but to be a Jumble champion, one must ensure that their body is as strong as their mind. There were some small details in the panel worth noting. The man on the treadmill in the back is working up a great sweat while the woman next to him holds a water bottle to ensure that she stays properly hydrated.

The letter layout gave the surprise answer away with ILL being grouped together. MILL instantly came to mind leaving DREAD to be solved in a flash.

    🏋🏻 Exercising with a BUDDY can prove to be more fun
    Especially for ones like me who like to take a run
    The RITUAL begins, you stretch and run in place
    You try to match his rhythm so that you’ll both be in pace…
    Some others rather run indoors, perhaps go to a gym
    I only have one treadmill, so we go if I’m with him.
    And then there’s those who dance instead, to get the blood aflow
    Some modern or some jazzercise or maybe a MAMBO.
    Whatever is your preference, make it fun, go for the thrill
    Cause nothing’s worse than thinking..”How I dread that @#$% “DREAD -MILL”! 🏋🏻

    Working out… Did your brain get a workout trying to get Sullen out of your head? I blinked until SULLENLY I saw UNLESS. And UNLESS I’m mistaken…this happened last time too! And the U and N were COUPLED! No EXCUSE! But I quickly got back ON TRACK, and the rest were no SWEAT. OK, headed for our cartoon. Jeff gives us a Health Club today, with four people using treadmills. But, WEIGHT a minute, WEIGHT a minute…No one’s looking happy here! Exercise, not everyone’s cup of T’AI CHI! I have some friends, that if I say EXERCISE, they say demons. If I say MUSCLE STRAIN, they think I’m rinsing mollusks for dinner. If I say GYM…they say…Belushi? You catch my LIFT…But it’s so important to stay in shape for our health. Yet, as we can see, no one here looks PUMPED. The dialogue, “Can’t stand these”. The hamster comment. That’s WHEELy funny, though, right? Jeff? Yours? Anyway, BOTTOM line? The women are DREADing the workout…The exercise machines are…”DREAD-MILLS”! Good one, Dave! CORE! Ok, eye candy. Not a lot to WORK with. Maybe the woman in the back with the water bottle and head set? Looks like something JOGGED her memory…No, I think I’ll go with the only man in the picture. The sweat on his face? The look on his face? ABStract, right?…What? Too much of a STRETCH? C’mon, WORK with me here! So, there you have it, Folks! Done!
    Have a great day, Everyone! With the Holidays approaching, I think I’ll PULL on my favorite Holiday shirt that reads, “Merry FITNESS and a Happy New REAR”, and go for a RUN. And remember…GAINing WEIGHT doesn’t happen by the minutes…it happens by the SECONDS! 🏋🏻🏋🏻🙋🏻

  4. UNLESS you could do the RITUAL MAMBO with a drunken BUDDY, you weren’t welcome at the Hispaniola Club.
    I would nominate RITUAL as the most difficult word to unscramble, at least for me. Three vowels often slow me down. Also had to write out the circled letters and even then the solution was slow to come –quotation marks were not noticed.
    Enjoyed the give and retake with the “punsters”. this AM.

  5. Good morning. Thanks again Mike for that picture. It’s so much clearer. Even with the the magnifying glass you can’t make it out. You guys are King and Queen of the puns today,great job. Had a problem with “ritual”. I gave up and had to look for the answer. Once I had all the words the cartoon answer was a breeze because like Mike said the two “l” were together. At least it wasn’t a complete failure. Until tomorrow stay well.

      Do you still hear the slot machine sounds in your head? Anytime I’ve been to a casino for an extended amount of time, the sounds stay with me for the longest time. It’s really annoying….

  7. Once again I had trouble with two – ritual and mambo – and had to back into both. I wasn’t even sure whether mambo was a word until I checked the dictionary. Wishing all a great day.

  8. I too paused at mambo & ritual, so I’m consoling myself with the thought that “Grreat minds think alike”, Mike & Caroline. Dread Mill came to me instantly so I worked backwards again today. Seem to be doing a lot of that lately. Backwards or forward, hope you all have a good day.

    • Hi, Betty! When I saw the RITUAL word jumbled, RELIC came to mind. RELIC was one of the toughest words for me to figure out but I’ve committed it to memory. I started with R and the rest flowed rather easily. David is definitely raising the bar on his clue word choices. Have a wonderful day! 🙂

  9. For a moment I thought I was going to have to throw the towel in again, but ritual finally came to me.

    My Pearl Harbor story: My father was born on the base in October of ‘41 and he and my Grandmother were still there that fateful Sunday morning in December. She carried my infant father to the air raid shelter that morning in his bassinet. That bassinet is still in our family and has protected my father’s five grandchildren and two of his nephews, though certainly from no peril like that of 76 years ago!

    • I was wondering why the flag was at half staff this morning while dropping the kids off at school. I’m not sure how it slipped my mind, and I’ve been upset by it all morning and afternoon. Such an amazing story, John. Thank you for sharing.

    • John, when I stood looking down at the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor, underwater & still leaking oil, with tears pouring down my face, I did not know any personal stories.

      Thank you for sharing the wonderful story of your resourceful grandmother, who in that perilous moment, quickly made the right decision, enabling her story to span generations and become your story.

  10. Oh my goodness, John, what a story. Hopefully, that treasured bassinet will continue to protect generations of your family to come but hopefully from nothing as catastrophic as Pearl Harbor.

  11. Hi all – I thought I posted this earlier this morning, but maybe it was *too* early. In any case, since it’s December 7, I wanted to pass along a story my father told me about Pearl Harbor. He said that when news of the attack came over the radio, everybody had two reactions. One: “Wow, that actually happened – I guess we really are going to have to go to war after all.” And two: “Where the hell is Pearl Harbor?”

    Don’t stress out Mike, remember even then-President George H W Bush referred to it in a speech as “September 7” several times, and he fought in the war!

  12. Hi, all! After reading the cartoon dialog & sentence, I thought it might be DREAD-MILL but wasn’t sure so I self-jumbled MAMBO 9 times and tangled with RITUAL for a while. I am happy to be a member of the Carolyn and Betty club today.

    Must leave immediately because granddaughter just called hysterically because a man had broken a window to get in just 5 minutes after her mother left for work but left right away without getting in. I have a glass replacement place on the way to her house but must rush over there to pay them. They have motion cameras around their house and we got a really good picture of the guy. Hope the police recognize him.

  15. Hi, all! I’m home and daughter & granddaughter have a new window thanks to “Jim Dandy aka Grandma to the Rescue” sung by Black Oak Arkansas.

    Mike and Angela, your back & forth puns about assembling a hot dog was so funny that I stopped at a drive-thru on my way home to buy an American dog with the works including lots of sweet pickle relish. If I were making it for you, Mike, I would include big, delicious slices or strips of pickle.

    I’m still happy to be a member of the CAROLINE (not Carolyn) and Betty club today.

    Steve, thank you for renewing my hope in being on LivePD filmed in Phoenix. LOL Thank you for sharing your dad’s Pearl Harbor story about how people reacted. Thank you for using your phenomenal memory to share the presidential speech.

    Angela, thank you for hoping that everything went well. Thank goodness we had an experienced window guy.

    • How awful a situation for your granddaughter, Lelia. Was a police report filed? The perpetrator may have been casing her home making note of the time she left for work. It doesn’t sound random to me. Has anyone worked outside or inside her home recently? Also, was the glass smashed violently or just a small break? It’s a good indicator of how fast the individual wanted to gain access to the home and it’s contents. I truly hope the surveillance footage leads the invesigators in the right direction.

      The hot dog shenanigans were really fun as Angela and I were on a ROLL! And I dress mine with mustard, ketchup and raw onion. A pickle spear on the side is really gilding the lily and I would happily accept your offering.

      • Hi, Mike! I though my granddaughter said she had a picture from their surveillance footage, but it was a 30 second video. I got to see the young man (maybe 20) rattle the outside handle of their arcadia door leading to the pool and decking, look at the window beside it but walk to the bedroom French doors and give their handles a try, and then walk back toward the window which he smashed violently. My granddaughter said that when she heard that very loud noise, she sat up in bed and yelled. That sent him on his way, and she called the police immediately.

        You were correct in saying that it was awful for her, but the quick arrival of the police helped a lot. My going to her rescue, getting the new window in before lunch, and taking her out to eat got her all calmed down. I hope the police recognize that guy. Thank you so much for your concern, kind words, and suggestions. I will share your thoughts with my daughter to make sure we have all bases covered. Thanks.
