🎶You say you want a REVOLUTION…Well, you know, we all want to change the world…You tell me that it’s evolution…Well, you know, we all want to change the world…🎶

⚒⚒ Invention as we know it, child of Necessity
Allows for one to FERRET out the why’s and the maybes…
A CELLO or a VISOR, fire or the wheel
A thought becomes a vision…strategy of cerebral…

Today’s guest host is cartoonist Mason Mastroianni! ⚒⚒

  • Talk about INVENTION!…I couldn’t invent a rhyme to save my life this morning! I was having a WHEELy hard time. But I CHISELed my way through it. And once I had Virus contained (C’mom, that’s funny)…I started to ROCK this cartoon. Sometimes those 5 letter words can really WEAR AWAY at you, right? My paper here in NYC used to carry B.C., and I always enjoyed it. Now I don’t see it anymore. You know how it is, the more things change…The more things change…! Invention! New and improved! A better way! …A guest cartoonist…! Today we see Thor, and his friend, Thor-More, drawn by Mason Mastroianni. MASON! (You can’t make this stuff up, people)! He’s the grandson of Johnny Hart, the creator of the comic strip B.C. Thor has invented the WHEEL. Not used for transportation at first, but for pottery, the key thing here was that it TURNED. It revolved. And with that, I’m going right for the kill! Thor started a “REVOLUTION“! Great pun, Dave, you leave the others in the DUST! Ok, I SHALE now get AROUND to the eye candy. A chisel, a mallet, some loincloths…Nothing really ROCK solid here. Nothing earth SHATTERING. I think I’ll have to take a pass again today…I don’t like doing so, it’s kind of like a BASALT on my character, but these characters are just leaving me in a QUARRY, I mean quandary. I’m just going to CAVE, MAN…So, there you have it, Folks! Done!

    • Unwind stumped me at first,and when I got the ” revolution” answer,I could piece together the cello answer.

  3. Upon discovering the family’s pet FERRET in his son’s CELLO case, curled up with his VISOR, the professional gambler ambled into the den to UNWIND with a scotch and soda.
    Today only one clue word gave me pause and that was CELLO. Once I had the circled letters it was an easy solve, despite the length of the answer.
    Thanks for the Beatle’s reference Angela .Love the golden oldies.
    Have a somewhat soggy Saturday, at least here in New York State. Tomorrow? Hummm, first Lake Effect snow of the season for some.

  4. Morning all – Cello took me a lot of jumbling on paper. The name of the cartoonist sounded familiar. I was thinking of the Italian actor with the same last name – Marcello Mastroianni.

    And I thought the same thing when I saw the artists name. What a great name! …(But of course I’m biased, We Italians just love those vowels…)! I have only 7 in my name..I would have OptEd for more! 😉 And that MASON cracked me up!

  6. Good morning. Great work Angela. Today’s jumble was interesting from the words to the cartoon. I do remember when it used to be in our paper. Enjoyed his work. Only had a little trouble with ferret. Had to play with the letters before getting it. The cartoon answer was close to an instant read. Makes up for yesterday. Enjoy the rest of the day. I’ll try a little later to see if I can squeeze in a couple of games of bocce before the rains come. Thursday had twenty two of us there and Friday it was down to Ten players. Until tomorrow stay well.

  7. This is the first guest cartoonist that I have recognized, though haven’t seen the strip in a long while.

    Blind solve on the puzzle, but the CWs each took a bit longer. Since I grew up up playing the bass and my brother the cello, the first one should have been easy, but wasn’t!

    I am looking forward to trying my home brewed pale ale today!

    • It’s funny you say that, John. Mike and I were just talking about that last night. That these weren’t your “average, every day” comics. But we enjoyed them just the same. (Although I do miss Jeff)!
      It’s the 5 letter word syndrome. You’re not alone.

  8. Cartoon answer was immediate but unwind and ferret took me longer to solve. Some of the clue words have been challenging this week. The only comic strip I recognized was Dick Tracy, but it’s been fun. Enjoyed your last salutations yesterday, Angela. You really outdid yourself. You’re a real wordsmith!     • Hi, Betty. Thank you very much. I so enjoyed doing them. I’ll make you laugh. I was with the kids Thursday. (Two 3 yr olds, a 4 and a 5), and I had printed out a list of animals. They were doing Legos and I was thinking up the phrases. Every once in a while I laughed out loud as I wrote. Of course they wanted to know what I “was playing”. (These kids have never met an iPad they didn’t like)! So I told them, “Ok, listen to what I’m saying. “Make a wish, little fish”. The laughter starts. One 3 yr old says, “Swim away, little fish”. (Ok, he’s got the meter right, he’s only 3, I think it’s adorable). The 5 yr old says, “Does that rhyme? No! It’s supposed to rhyme.” And off in the corner, playing a video game, (and who I thought to be totally oblivious to us), is the 9 yr old, who admonishes his younger brother with…”Why don’t you blow your nose, it’s prose”! Needless to say, now all four of the little ones are laughing hysterically, because as I’m sure you know, anything to do with bodily functions, for some reason is like catnip to kids. So now they’re all repeating “Blow your nose” ad nauseam, and that was the end of what I “was playing”. I finished the rest after I got home! But I’m now looking at the 9 yr old in a whole new light…Poetry AND Prose in the same sentence? Maybe there’s hope! I have my fingers crossed!
      There were a few sticklers thrown in this week, but a challenge is always welcome, right?
      I hope you get to use the lines, and have as much fun with them as I did.

  9. Hi, all! I enjoyed the iconic Dick Tracy on Monday, but today’s B.C. brought the biggest smile to my face all week because it is one of the few comics that I read daily.

    Solved the cartoon answer immediately.

    Just like your solve, Carolyn, I quickly self-jumbled CELLO 12 times in my newspaper margin, and there it was!

    I wanted VISOR to be “virus” but it wasn’t. It took only a moment for me to FERRET out the word UNWIND.

    Yesterday’s weather with a little early morning sprinkling was wonderful, but today the wind is blowing so hard I’m wondering if my pretty little freshly planted flower likes that much wind. “The answer is blowin’ in the wind.”

  10. Hi all – I saw the answer and the last word right away, but it took me so long to get the rest that I had time to think about a sentence using the wrong guesses:

    At the LOCEL supermarket, the flu VIROS shot was free, but I couldn’t use my WUDINN nickels to buy my frankFERTER buns.

    I agree with Moose that Thor looks TIRED, and he hasn’t even invented that yet. I recommend a nap to get his BEARINGS.

  12. Who are all of these guest artists and what are these comic strips. B.C. is the only one we have ever heard of and we have been reading the comic daily for years? Is anyone else familiar with them?

    • Anonymous: The Guest Jumblers this week are friends/colleagues of the Jumbles cartoonist, Jeff Knurek, and fellow members of the National Cartoonist Society. While we may not be familiar with the work of some of these gentlemen, it has been interesting and entertaining seeing their art. Information on all of them is available on line, should you be interested in learning more about them. While it has been fun this week, I think many of us are creatures of habit, and miss what we’re “used to”.
      Jeff is “Jumble” to us, and I for one look forward to his return.
      Thank you for posting, and please join us again in the future. 🙋🏻
