KKUSN = SKUNK

TOTOTA = TATTOO

LAPOWL = WALLOP

CARTOON ANSWER:

THEY WERE ABLE TO GET AWAY FROM THE PORCUPINE BECAUSE THE PORCUPINE WAS A —

PESKOOWL = SLOWPOKE

Good Monday morning everyone and happy Columbus Day! I hope you’re one of the lucky ones that has the day off from work, and that you’re enjoying a nice long weekend.  TATTOO was the only word to give me a few extra seconds of PAUSE today making it my pick for the most difficult anagram of the group.  Moving along to the cartoon, we see a man and a woman taking a walk in the woods.  Reading the dialogue and sentence, we discover that they’ve come to an abrupt hault due to a porcupine that is taking a stroll as well.  The letter layout kept the solution to this puzzle well hidden, but it was an easy solve overall.  POKE came into view immediately which left SLOW for the finish and a very cute pun!  Have a magnificent Monday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

  1. Good morning. Regardless how everybody is so sensitive to the past. I bid everybody a happy Columbus Day. Enjoyed the puzzle. The only word that gave me trouble was tattoo. It took minutes to get. Probably because I had a strict rule in my household. No tattoos as long as your living in my house. Looking at the cartoon answer slow appeared first. It was a quick solve. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Nice work, Paul! I’m glad to see that I wasn’t alone with TATTOO. It sounds like we had the same thought process with today’s puzzle. 🙂👍🏻

  2. When he was told to ink a SKUNK on the woman’s leg, the TATTOO artist took a long PAUSE and wanted to WALLOP her boyfriend who was either angry or deranged.

    I agree that tattoo was the pauser today and all those double letters!! I was a little slow on the solution because I don’t associate porcupines with “poke.” But to make a pun I guess it will do.
    Cartoon had little that caught my eye beside the matchy – maychy colors on both characters.
    I do not have the day off–Mondays are one of my volunteer days and I am on a short break. Rainy day up here so it’s good to be inside and dry.

    • I was going to try my hand at making a sentence this morning but it didn’t look right so I deleted it. I guess it’s best to leave it to the pros. Great job as always, Earl. 👍🏻

  3. 🍂🍂 The old myth said a porcupine would fling a dart at you
    But now we know that’s not the case, it’s just not what they do…
    The quills are there and can get hard if “Porky” feels a threat
    If on a hike and one you see, don’t break out in a sweat…
    He’s not known to be dangerous, you can stand still and peek
    To see the way he waddles towards any food he seeks
    Not only will you not get POKEd you’ll also need to know
    They give new meaning to a stroll, because they are so SLOW…🍂🍂

    Porcupines, skunk as one of the words, yesterday elephants…
    Starting to wonder if this is Jumble in the Jungle! It’s a lot of wild life, no? Not the “wild life” I’m used to…but hey, what the heck…Cute puzzle and great pun all the same. I’m going to ignore the odd grin on the porcupines face, and give today’s eye candy to our male hiker. He’s looking SHARP and may I add, fit!
    So there you have it, Folks. I’m feeling exhausted and couldn’t get that excited over the puzzle today. I think the QUILL is gone….
    Have a great day, Everyone! I’m getting ready to try my first Pumpkin SPIKE Latte. I’ll POKE you on Facebook later and let you know how it went..🙋🏻

      • Hmm…Cryptic…What might you know that we don’t? 😉 Tell ya what…If you’re right, the peanuts are on me…shelled! 😉🙋🏻

  4. Tattoo was my pause this morning as well. – all those t’s & o’s. Stroll was a good hint that he was going slow. Happy Columbus Day everyone. We still do celebrate it in San Francisco. North Beach which used to be a heavily Italian section of the city has had a parade for as long as I can remember. I’m just grateful that we survived the parade, the music scene in Golden Gate Park and Fleet Week without any problems.

    • Ah fleet week. Wasn’t everybody told to lock up their daughters back in the day when the fleet returned. Laughing just thinking about it. Had girls tell us if you meet daddy don’t tell him your from Brooklyn. Why would anybody think that just because we come from Brooklyn we were bad? Lol

  5. Hi all – Yes, TATTOO caused a pause, but the rest was straightforward.

    Today’s news in the Bay Area is a huge fire in Sonoma and Napa about 40-50 miles north of here. SF and Oakland aren’t threatened, but I could smell the smoke as soon as I woke up, and it’s very noticeable outside; the air is hazy and smells like a fireplace.

    Today’s classic rock selection at the Safeway this morning – “Rapture” by Blondie. I’m buying bananas and Debbie Harry is singing 🎵” ‘Cause the man from Mars stopped eatin’ cars and eatin’ bars and now he only eats guitars”🎵
    Life is getting more surreal by the day. Have a good one.

    • Hey, Steve. I’ll do you one better…This morning I get an Email from Hallmark. ” World of Caring Awaits…Welcome to a brand new beginning…,” The Walking Dead Itty Bittys….Shop Now..
      Hmm. Sure, Christmas is coming…So which one of the kids should I get The Walking Dead for…?
      Talk about surreal…😳🙋🏻

  6. Steve, my home too smelled like smoke and it’s very hazy out as well. I just found out that one of my cousins who lives in Santa Rosa lost his home to the fire and two other cousins have been evacuated. It’s a difficult day here in Northern California.

    • Betty, I’m so sorry. 💔
      I was just telling Steve that my local station covered the story early this morning and the footage shown was unreal. Prayers for your family. 🙏🏻

    • Betty, I am horrified to hear that one of your cousins has lost his home & two others have been evacuated. We can be very thankful that your cousins are all fine, but I am offering prayers for immediate assistance, peace, and much energy to take care of this unfortunate mess.

    • I’m sorry for their loss. You lose all your possessions and have to start all over again. As long as nobody got injured that’s a blessing. My sister in law went through that twice. It’s heartbreaking.

  7. Hi, all! I got TATTOO quickly because 2 of my grandchildren, without consulting grandma, chose to get elaborate tattoo pictures on one arm, and the youngest granddaughter, whom I gave $1,000 to refrain at least until she’s 25 years old, is dating a TATTOO artist.

    I loved my dad’s small TATTOO on his shoulder of my mom’s, sister’s, & my name and the even smaller one Jerry has with just his name because they are covered by a short sleeved shirt. My dad got his in the Navy, Jerry in the Air Force, and grandson in the Army. My singer Josh West doesn’t want one.

    I had to PAUSE for a while to self-jumble PAUSE 9 times while finishing waking up. The rest came easy. Enjoy your day.

  8. Steve, thanks again for the info that I filed with my mother’s info of the same nature.
    Question: Recently we had a cartoon in which the scary headless guy turned out to be just an ol’ SLEEPY HEAD. Today we have a potentially scary, prickly, porcupine that was just a little ol’ SLOWPOKE. Are we having a streak of sweeeeeet solutions?

    Mike, you are always hoping that Jerry & I are fine so I am sending two “hopes” your way. First, I hope that you are still finding takers to join you in the fun of playing a game of Uno, your new fav. Second, I hope that your stash of back-breaking wood chips is where you wish it to be.

    • Thanks, Lelia. I hope the info is useful, or at least interesting.
      I must defer to Angela on any “sweeeeeet” judgments. I learned it from her, and it’s more of a New York (Brooklyn-specific?) thing than a New England-ism.
      I hope you enjoyed your dinners yesterday, which sounded absolutely delicious, but might have given me a heart attack before dessert!

    • Hi, Lelia! My passion for Uno has cooled off and we haven’t played much since getting back from vacation. We did buy a game and it’s always available for those rainy days. As for the wood pellets, I moved 4 tons into my garage back in August. It was really hard work but we’ll be plenty warm in the cold winter months that are just around the corner. Have a great afternoon and thank you for thinking of us. 😊

  9. Able to get puzzle answer almost right after I read it all. Now of course you all know that such an action means I will not get another one all week. To further add data to prove I am goofy, I went to the mail box 3 times before some told me about Chris’s Day
