    Is not to look at different ores, ’cause then..What do you get?
    While silver’s nice, you’re thinking, “But there’s nothing like the gold…”
    It looks so rich, it always shines, even as it gets old.
    Yet if you’re still uncertain, there’s another way to go
    White gold is just as pretty; it makes a lovely show…
    And then if you’re still on the fence, and can’t decision reach,
    I’ve always found this works out best: “May I have one of each”..? 💍💍

    Today’s words, a PERFECT fit! We’ve seen them all before, and the scrambling is CRYSTAL clear! The cartoon: A couple, JASPER APATITE and RUBY STERLING are shopping for engagement RINGS. The salesclerk, ROSE QUARTZ, is showing them huge DIAMOND rings, one set in GOLD, one in SILVER. JASPER tells her that the choice is hers. SAPPHIRE to say, RUBY likes them both, (What’s not to like)? …so her reply is…”EITHER ‘ORE’”! How cute is that? A great pun, Jumble Guys, a real GEM! Ok, the Eye Candy? I love the little price tags hanging off the rings; Jeff’s attention to detail is PRICEless! So, that WRAPS it up…She’s taking it home! And once RUBY and JASPER are married, they’ll be known as the STERLING-APATITES. Hmm. Has a nice RING to it, no? But it does make you wonder if it may cut down on the dinner invitations…Just sayin’.

  2. ADRIFT far ABOVE the Letchworth Park Gorge, the HEFTY Sumo wrestler visiting from Osaka, felt less than secure in the WICKER basket dangling from the hot air balloon.

    I am using a website where you type in your answers to the words and solution online. The site times how long it takes you to solve—today I was able to do it all in just over one minute—unusual—sometimes it takes 5 or more minutes. So I think the words and the puzzle were easy this Saturday.. Love the pun “either ore” as a person who enjoys playing with words.
    Angela’s commentary is “solid gold” as usual and does nothing to tarnish her glittering image. Fitting song was a crowning achievement.
    Yesterday I had trouble with “circus” as did others. I believe I have a clue as to why. See if you agree with my thinking by looking at the following words:
    cell, cinnamon, cent, citrus, central, centaur
    cork, call, casual, calamity, crown, clown.

    • Good morning, Earl. You’re certainly painting a picture this morning! Maybe a little too graphic for this early hour! My eyes! LOL…I feel exactly the same, 1-2-3-4…Very easy, breezy. And the answer was an adorable pun. Thank you very much for your comment; I like your use of the puzzles theme…
      I have to admit, I’m not picking up on the words…I’ll need your STERLING advice here..💍🙋🏻

  3. You got it—didn’t need my sterling advice, did you? Yes, It’s the different sounds the same letter can have in pronunciation. CIRCUS—has two Cs but they have two sounds–the S at the start and the K in the middle. I tend to mentally sound out possible words when I am solving the Jumble. I’ll be curious to see if others had the same problem.
    Crocus has the hard K sound in both Cs—I think that would be an easier solve to unscramble.

    • Be assured, Sir, that I’d always welcome your sterling advice. C is an odd letter. As a Scrabble enthusiast, I cringe when drawing a C. And ironically I’m playing it right now, while watching the morning news. “Classic Words” on my iPad. Great game, the iPad being your opponent. I just had to form CUR. 3 letters! What a waste of my U, but I had to unload the C! Yesterday, a reader, Mike, mentioned that he found Circus troublesome because the I and the U both sounded like U, and how phonetics didn’t apply.
      When trying these C words to figure…
      Could C prove to be an enigma? 😉🙋🏻

  6. Good morning. Easy solve on both ends of the puzzle but I was disappointed with the cartoon answer. I’m looking at it and thinking there has to be a better answer. Remember I hate words in quotation marks. I don’t find it cute. Angela and Earl, your over my head. I’m was just an average student who couldn’t wait to graduate. I do enjoy your comments. Until tomorrow stay well

    • Good morning, Paul. The object is to solve the puzzle. Which you did. Mission accomplished! You do hate those quotation marks, huh? And yet they’re a hint, because then you know it will be a “play” on the word. She could have chosen either one OR the other. Gold and silver are ORES…So David used Either ORE! It’s funny if you think about it. I’m sure you just get turned off by the quotes. Also everyone has a different sense of humor. And your sentence yesterday was hysterical, far from average! I laughed out loud! Hope you enjoy your day! 💍🙋🏻

      • Angela your right. I do get it but it’s not my cup of tea. Some people love “The argyle sweater” and “between the lines”. I can’t stand them both. It’s “mutts” and ” red and rover” that I find amusing.

        • Paul, I agree with you there. Same likes and dislikes. Is your paper the NY Daily News? I still read “Gasoline Alley”. Corny, but there’s something about it…Viva la difference! 🙋🏻

    • Glad you enjoy my comments and I do tend to over analyze sometimes. So I’ll do my best to keep it down to earth–where all the ORES are and not use any quotation marks. And this is just for your ears and not for Angela’s—sometimes I cringe and curse at the puns in the Jumble cartoon solution. At other times I am grateful for the inverted commas ( quotation marks) because they let me know a common phrase may be the answer.
      OK , Angela I know you were listening and that’s why I threw in the Brit speak. Inverted commas.

  9. Hi all – Nothing much to add; quick solve on the words and the puzzles.
    Angela, when you mentioned the price tags I went online and noticed also the very cute little butterfly pin that the salesclerk is wearing. Attention to detail indeed, that many will never even see.
    And also – I was looking at the TV listings, and the local PBS channel is showing “Some Like it Hot” tonight, then I read the posts here and you’re channeling “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.” Spooky!

  10. Hi, all! Had an easy time with words & cartoon even though I slept until 11 a.m. and did the Jumble only half awake.

    Earl: Enjoyed the hot air balloon trip you treated us to. Glad you didn’t write about someone ADRIFT in a WICKER chair because he would surely have sunk. LOL
    Thanks for the lesson about the soft C and hard C in the word CIRCUS.

    Gold vs silver, brings back memories: Our family did fun, weekend gold panning for a hobby for years. I got so good at it that in 1989, I entered the Arizona Gold Panning Contest in Mesa, AZ and won first place by panning 5 gallons of material (dirt, rocks, sand, etc.) and placing the 5 gold nuggets in the judge’s hand in about 2 minutes.

    • Hi Lelia – Wow, a true golden memory! “Silver Threads Among the Gold” – I bet your family had that on a wax cylinder.

      After talking about Josh and your daughter, I got to thinking – her having had Alice Cooper as a high school classmate must have made for some interesting reunions. Like, “Oh, an Alaska cruise, how lovely! And what have you been up to, Vince?” “Oh, the usual, taking a woman’s name, dressing in Goth Death-Metal and eyeshadow, getting guillotined and electrocuted on stage, you know, same old same old.”

      • Steve, called daughter to ask if her H.S. ever did a remembrance thing about their former student Vincent aka Alice, and she said surprisingly no, but she couldn’t speak about his reunions because he was born in ’48, her in “61. Hoped to learn something to tell you, but I’ll settle for your very funny, actually hilarious, comments!

        She said that Josh & Dad had to cancel their tour of home parties. While making final plans, some had changed their mind. Others had mixed feelings about Josh accepting tips in their home. They didn’t think about how little he charged them, the hours setting up equipment, gas money, and food & lodging on the road. One lady said if he did take tips, he should donate the money to charity. Joyce said to me, “They ARE a charity!”

  11. Thanks Leila for the compliment. Sometimes my mind goes in areas it should not in composing sentences. Today’s was using a place I love and which offers rides in hot air balloons. So when I saw “above” and “adrift” that’s what came to mind. Hefty was the challenge and trying to stay politically correct.
    What amazing experience—panning for old placing first. I think I probably would have got all hung up on how much gold I found, if any. Have a good weekend.

  12. Cute puzzle….Shot my worst round of golf today and felt bad..partner told me that as bad as it was a worse round is coming!!!!! Kinda like doing the Jumble eh?

  14. Yes you did do anything, you said Hi. Just about the first thing we “should” learn as a child…say Hi to people. Bowling just starting, had spinal stenosis surgery. Ask the Dr if I would be better at golf and bowling and he said yes…………..He lied!!!!!!! I am telling Hippocrates. Sorry Mike, it has been a while and I got windy.

    • Harry, I’m figuring this is you, by what you’re saying, but your name didn’t come up. For the record, I shouted out to you a few times, but you never replied. Sorry to hear about the surgery. I know its a big decision, and they claim its iffy. I just went again last week for some testing with one of my cousins, he’s supposed to get it also. He’s putting it off for the longest time. I still don’t think he’s going to do it. I asked about the bowling because I could swear you mentioned it starting the week after Labor Day. Maybe it wasn’t you. I’m sure the golf game will improve; you know you’re not going to give it up, so what’s the alternative? Beat yourself up every time you have a crappy game? You enjoy it, that’s what counts. Or you could always try baseball! 😂 Let me know what Hippocrates says…! 🙋🏻
