FIMDEF = MIFFED

TERNEL = RELENT

CARTOON ANSWER:

KONG HAD TROUBLE FINDING A MEAL THAT WAS —

KOAGIIFFRNT = FIT FOR A KING

Good Tuesday morning everyone!  RELENT edged out MIFFED as my choice for the most challenging word today.  I’m not a fan of past tense words being used as clue words as the -ED ending turns a 6-letter word into another 4-letter word solve.  There are those days when the -ED ending is part of the word but it’s very rare.  Moving on to the cartoon, we’re outside of Chef Franc’s Restaurant (most likely on Mulberry Street in NYC) where Kong is looking spiffy, sporting a striped tie and a perfectly coiffed hairdo.  Ann can be seen looking fashionably dressed herself in a beautiful dress and heels.  As the chef explains that he’s unable to accommodate the couple, Ann attempts to assuage Kong by telling him that it’ll be all right.  One can only guess what happens next, and I hope the chef understands what happens when Kong gets angry!  The solution to the cartoon wasn’t overly difficult.  Writing out the clue letters, KING was an instant solve leaving FIT FOR A to flow naturally for me.  Have a terrific Tuesday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Today’s shoutout goes to Moose!  When I started this blog a few years ago, Moose was the only soul that took the time to leave comments on my site.  Much has changed in the years that followed and many folks have joined in the fun.  I’ll be forever greatful to him for breaking the ice and showing others how much fun talking about the Jumble could be.  Thanks for being such a wonderful friend and getting the ball rolling, Moose.  Enjoy your day!  🙂

  1. Good morning. The whole puzzle was an instant read except for “miffed”. After a minute I looked at the cartoon and now knowing the three letters I got the word right away. Thank goodness I have more wins than losses unlike the Mets. Until tomorrow stay healthy.

  2. Good morning, Guys! My turn, No email this morning…! Great post, Mike. And great shout out to Moose! The “Big Guy”! 🙋🏻

  3. 🙈 He made a reservation, but I guess he didn’t look
He should’ve gone on line, when the table he did book,
A picture would have helped him, and then he could have read
How big the place, and just how high the clearance overhead.
Instead he must have phoned it in, and now what have we here..
Franc can’t provide a table, cause the doorway Kong don’t clear,
And even if they could get in, King King and his blonde date
There’s not enough bananas for what he would have ate.
I think what this all shows us, is that next a date they go…
Kong’s better off to find a place where dining’s Al Fresco! 🙊

Well I’ll be a MONKEY’S uncle! “GORILLAS in our MIFFED”? Is this a new word? My Jumble APEtitude tells me it might be. The other three? No BIG deal.
Our cartoon: Poor Kong! He thought he’d take Ann out for a few APEritifs, maybe a little APEs Suzette. They got all dressed up. He in a tie, she in a little black dress. Dolce and BANANA, perhaps? (And her HAIR looks great…Vidal BABOON)? Very APEpeeling. But Jeff shows us them getting to the restaurant, only to find out they don’t FIT in. And all Franc’s APEologizing doesn’t add up to a hill of beans..or a bunch of BANANAS!! Not “enough room”, not “enough food”..no meal..”FIT FOR A KING”! BA..BOON! The solve!
Eye candy? There’s the Empire State Building, there’s that bunch of BANANAS. But what whet my APEpetite? Kong’s hand on Ann’s shoulder…CHIMPly adorable!

So, there you have it Folks! Cute pun, another BIG win for our Boys. Not so much for Kong, though, huh? Maybe next time he should try the MONKEY BARS…Yeah, he should SWING by there..
Have a great day, Everyone! And don’t let anyone throw a MONKEY WRENCH in your plans today! 🙈🙉🙊 🙋🏻

              • LOL…Good one! APE S–T came to my mind, but it IS a Family Blog! 😂 Neither one of us touched upon the guy hanging out the window…A little too EDGY perhaps? 😂🙋🏻

              • I thought the same thing. He just didn’t seem to FIT in. Although now I’m thinking, maybe he took the reservation…and APEparently dropped the ball! “Reservation for two? Kong? King Kong..”?
                What a CHIMP! I mean CHUMP! 😂🙋🏻

    • Wow, such a poem and such punning! “Vidal Baboon?” What a groaner! That one is so bad that it is really GREAT! And we though Ogden Nash took license in his punning; he had nothing on you! But as I think of it, I can see how your ability and creativity with words and your solving of these puzzles are all related. One of my own pun creations is this one. We know that the heat on an electric stove is caused by current flow through resistance. I guess we could call this “Ohm on the Range.” And we are also told that when a vehicle accidentally crashes into a toll both, that the highway crews repair the toll booth with “toll gate booth paste.”
      Better quit while I’m ahead!

      • Hi Eric. Hoe gaat het met je vanavond?
Thank you, kind Sir. You do make me smile. If you remember, I “cut my teeth” on Ogden GNASH, so once again any comparison to him is humbly appreciated. And Vidal BABOON was in fact an afterthought! I just wanted to give Ann a HAND UP! Last week or so, you very eloquently stated how knowing other languages besides English are an assist with writing. And I agree. I painstakingly sat through Latin and French, knowing I’d NEVER find anyone in Brooklyn to converse with…but also knowing that studying the roots of so many words would help me immensely. It was time well spent. I enjoyed both your puns and found them extremely witty; but be forewarned, you have only yourself to blame if they show up in a future post of mine! Rest assured, I’ll credit you. 😉 Thanks again for your very kind words. And I hope I can keep you groaning…Fijne Avond! 🙋🏻

    • Good morning, Moose. Thank you! And congrats on your shout out. I never knew you were a Lifer here…Kudos! 🙋🏻

  4. The game reserve wardens were MIFFED when told to RELENT and GRILL their suspect moe circumspectly about the KOALA
    disappearances.

I agree with Mike that relent was the clue word that took the longest time to unscramble. Cartoon solution was a snap today even though there were so many circled letters. The cartoon was great and Angela’s puns mendacious as always and brought out the monkey shines this AM.
    Have a terrific Tuesday everyone.

    • Hi Earl. Monkey shines I could see, but mendacious? Hmm. Not sure if I’m KONGruent with that! 😉🙋🏻

      • You are right—I thought mendacious meant stretching (not only truth) to the limits. The dictionary stresses the more lying aspect and I would never even hint that. It’s not easy finding new words to describe your puns and “stretches” of word play.
Maybe I’ll just stick to the old Brit: Well Done.

        • Hi Earl. Thank you, and please be assured, 😉 no worries. I do stretch at times, to go for the pun, but knowing what I knew of the definition, it kind of stopped me in my tracks. Yet I considered the source, and knew there could never be anything unkind behind it. You’re way too much of a Gentleman. We’re good, kind Sir. 😘🙋🏻

  5. Had the puzzle solved first, then the words all came quickly with the exception of relent. Knowing the needed letters , it became obvious that the N & T had to go at the end of the clue word, so I really backed into it today.

    Make it a great day!

  6. I too paused at relent but the rest of the words came easily and I actually figured out the cartoon answer first. Beautiful day here today in San Francisco, sunny & warm. Have a good Tuesday everyone.

  7. Hi, all! Had to get up at 5 a.m. to drive an hour away to Jerry’s doctor. Bad news. Still more cancer in his bladder: same surgery again in 3 weeks.

Had the answer to the cartoon immediately but self-jumbled RELENT 15 times.

Moose, congrats on your shout out and thank you so much for not only your early comments that meant so much to Mike but the ones you continue to post to this day!

      • Steve, you said, “So sorry to hear that, Lelia,” about Jerry’s next surgery in 3 weeks. I said, “Sorry, honey.” When I texted both girls in their classroom teaching, they immediately texted back, “Sorry.”

Thank you, Steve, for your word of sympathy and your good wishes to both of us.

I told Jerry that I am tired of the sick aura in our house, so for 3 weeks we are going to do fun things: invite friends for dominoes, go to OdySea Aquarium in Scottsdale (2,000,000 gals of water), etc.

        • That sounds like a very wise course of action to me, as I would expect from you. I hope you enjoy the activities! ❤️

      • Moose, you are quite welcome. The best to you, too.

Angela, thank you for your thoughts & prayers for both of us. Speaking of thoughts, we are going to stop thinking “doom & gloom” and relish our days together.

        • “A strong woman knows she has enough strength for her journey, but a praying woman knows it’s in her journey where she’ll gain her strength”.

I was given a plaque with these words, when I was going through a very difficult time in my life. It sustained me then and it lifts me up now. I hope it does the same for you. And after you pray…
Give ’em hell, Lelia. 😉 🙋🏻

    • Lelia, As verbose as I tend to be, I don’t know what to say right now. My thoughts and prayers go out to you both. Be well. 🙏🏻
