CARTOON ANSWER:

ONE WAY TO AVOID HEART SURGERY IS TO EXERCISE AND EAT WELL.  THEN YOU CAN —

AIPTSYBS = BYPASS IT

Good morning and happy Wednesday!  The clue words all came instantly this morning despite being jumbled very well.  BICEPS would be my pick for the most challenging anagram if I was forced to choose.  Moving along to the cartoon, we are in an exam room where a Doctor is having a conversation with a patient.  The drawing spared the frills that we normally see and instead offered some very sage advice.  The key words that would have helped you solve this puzzle almost instantly were heart, risk, and avoid.  There was no need to write out the clue words today as I was able to visualize all of the circled letters and come up with the solution.

Today’s shoutout goes to Paul!  Thank you, Paul, for being a wonderful member within our online community and for taking the time to let us know your thoughts on the puzzle every morning.  It’s always a pleasure hearing the tips and techniques that you use to overcome challenging words, as well as the positive attitude you retain for those days when the solution is just out of reach.  πŸ™‚

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone and I’ll see you tomorrow!

  1. Good morning, Come Back Kid! πŸ˜‚ Love the post, LOVE the shout out to Paul…Well said! β€οΈπŸ™‹πŸ»

  2. 🎢”And if you should survive to a hundred and five…Look at all you’ll derive out of bein’ alive. And here is the best part, you have a head start, if you are among the very young at HEART…”🎢

***You try to eat the way you should , you know it’s for the best
You exercise, you walk a while…you try to get your rest
You stay away from carbs and sweets, you really do your part
And then you go for that check up, and Doc says…”Healthy HEART…”!***

SURELY we’ve seen today’s words before. Nothing new CREPT up, but the scrambling on BICEPS was a stretch. And VALID made a good point. Good mix, Dave. Our cartoon gets right to the HEART of things! A cardiologist, and a patient. The question “AVOID SURGERY”… The dialogue: “Reduced your risk”…”Took your advice to HEART”…Boom…”BYPASS IT”! Easy, breezy, didn’t SKIP a BEAT…But looking for eye candy? Except for a peek at a STETHOSCOPE hanging from the doctors pocket, there’s nothing here! I’m having a hard time getting PUMPed up over this cartoon. I’m sitting here having breakFAST with my friend, Eddie King, and I’m like…”Hey EK, Gee, this puzzle’s a bust…” He MURMURs back…”Don’t say that, it’s TACHY. C’mon, ANG, INA know you can do this”. But I can’t, I’m a FAILURE this morning, and it’s causing some serious TREPIDATION. And I’m not gonna FIB, I’m getting very STRESSed…I think AORTA just give up, there’s nothing to work with. It’s all in VEIN…
Jeff, SUR, GERYeally broke my HEART today…
So, there you have it, Folks. I’m done. I’m just gonna’ BEAT it out of here…
Have a great day, Everyone…Keep on TICKIN’ β€οΈπŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Thank you, Bud. I have a limerick for you. I’m trying to do one for each of us..I’ve already rhymed a line of mine as “SHOUT with MOUTH”! πŸ˜‚ Here’s yours:

There once was a man name of Mike
Whose blog numbers surely did spike
He relished with glee, the stats he did see..
As he shouted to “someone”…”Ha, psych”! β€οΈπŸ™‹πŸ»

      • LOL….Thanks, Moose. No, no PAIN. Piece of cake, once I had an arRHYTHMia going!! Yep, that’s me…a regular TIMEX!!!
Just got a text from my nephew…Kid cracks me up…I’ll post it on IOW before first pitch…Thanks again…β€οΈπŸ™‹πŸ»

  3. I mistakenly found surley first and had to back into biceps. I tried IT as the second word in the answer, which led me to bypass. Nice to see a doctor who recommends healthy eating and exercise. Too bad doctors don’t learn more about nutrition in med school. Your puns had me laughing today, Angela.

    • Good morning, 🎢Sweet Caroline…🎢 You make a lot of VALID points this morning…Happy to make you laugh, Thank you.
Here’s your Limerick…They’re all just quick first drafts, I’m hoping to perfect them…

There once was a woman so sweet…
She swept all of us off our feet…
Her name’s Caroline, She’s really quite fine..
The nicest girl you’d ever meet…β€οΈπŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Angela, I appreciate your fun limerick but I think you’re getting carried away with the SC song. There’s a lot of impressive stuff on this blog ,so I like to acknowledge it sometimes. Enjoyed your flatline joke, Mike.

        • Caroline, I got you. Understandable. No more..🎢 🎢 πŸ˜‰ Hope you’re enjoying your day! β€οΈπŸ™‹πŸ»

    • Hey Caroline – Thanks for reminding me of John Prine on Sunday. A great songwriter, eh?, sort of like a lesser-known Willie Nelson. Weren’t all his songs depressing, though (“Daddy’s Arm”)? “Not that there’s anything wrong with that”!
      I may exaggerate a bit.
He was active in the neighborhood where I lived in the early 70’s, along with Steve Earle sometimes (now *there’s* a JumbleAnswers name for you!)

      • Hi Steve – I don’t know too many of John Prine’s songs, but come to think of it, you’re right, they are all depressing except for In Spite of Ourselves, which he wrote for a movie. That’s cool you lived near Prine and Steve Earle, who I also like. I hope you got to see them. I agree with you about Prine.

  4. SURELY, when his waistband size CREPT up and his BICEPS began to shrivel, he had VALID reasons to hire a trainer and get back in shape.

Love the cartoon because it sends a message and many of us can use the reminder to get regular check ups and exercise, even a little bit more. Hits close to home with me because many relatives and quite a few friends have had to go the surgery route.

Angela—good on you as the Aussies say—overlooking the obvious—well maybe not overlooking but turning a blind eye, eh?:
You may not have been inspired this AM but you still did well and I hope that’s how you feel today. I have “🎢High Hopes”🎢that I’ll stay 🎢”Young at Heart”🎢

    • Good morning, Earl. SURELY, I have no idea what you’re referring to! πŸ˜‚ I tried getting inspired, but it was a lot ARTER(Y) than I thought! Once again, your sentence warms my HEART. And, Thank you for the shout out. The “exercise” brought you to mind, because I pictured you bike riding along the lake. And be assured, Sir, that your taste in music alone…(Norah Jones..I’m still reeling) and your love of life will definitely keep you 🎢Young at Heart…🎢
I sent you a Limerick y’day. Did you see it?
Hope you have a great day! β€οΈπŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Yes I did see the limerick and I was all in a “twirl” over it. aren’t too many words that rhyme with Earl—girl, twirl, burl, swirl and I guess there are a few!! Thanks for the thought and the effort and thanks for the notes on my songs. On this computer I don’t have emojis—I guess I need to go back to the iPad.
And BTW I walk along the lake shore and bike along the canal–get some exercise in both cases. Saw several monarch butterflies on the lake shore today and that made me think about the marvelous migration those insects make. We humans pale in comparison oft times.

        • Hi Earl I’m glad you enjoyed it. The 🎢,notes, you’re welcome…I think they look SHARP. The lake shore, the canal…you definitely “cover the bases”, as we sports fans like to say. Weather here for the weekend’s supposed to be 80-90. You may very well get in another boating day…I know we’re intending to. As long there’s no wind…I don’t do the winds…I don’t know much about butterflies, except how beautiful they are. My Grandmother always told us growing up that when a butterfly comes near you, it’s a visit from someone in Heaven. I may not be translating it verbatim but that was the gist of it. I don’t know if that’s an Italian thing or not. So that’s what I think of when I see butterflies.
I’m just getting news alerts saying Puerto Rico has “been destroyed” by Maria. “The island is ravaged”…I can’t wrap my mind around all this destruction and heartache. πŸ’” I’ve typed really fast, forgive any typos.

  5. Good morning. Thank you very much for the shoutout. I appreciate it. Today’s puzzle was no instant read for me. The first three words came fairly quick but I was stuck for over a half hour on biceps. I went back and forth to it like four times. Then finally I obtained scribe. When I checked to see if I had my words correct like most times I was surprised that I replaced the P in biceps for the R in scribe. I have my glasses on too, duh. Not the first time I’ve done that. Once I had all the letters the cartoon was easy.Angela, you are trip-in. Always good for a laugh. Nice way to start the day. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Hi Paul. Good morning. Thank you for the shout out. And I couldn’t agree more with Mike’s to you. Well deserved! πŸ‘πŸ»

You made me think of the Honeymooners, where Ralph says to Alice…”You’re a riot, Alice. A regular riot. Hope they like these jokes on the moon, ’cause that’s where you’re goin,…” πŸ˜‚
      Believe me..I’ve heard similar comments..(numerous times..) πŸ˜‰
Hope you have a great day! Keep laughing! β€οΈπŸ™‹πŸ»

  6. For some reason valid would not come to me this morning. Was stuck on Advil and Vidal. My wife finally solved it upside down from across the table for me! Everything else was fairly straightforward , though surely took a couple of extra looks.

    Have a great day!

  7. I went to the Jumble on line this morning and got the words easy enough for me. The circles for the puzzle were 6 and one. Could not figure any way to end a statement with a single letter. Had to go to golf w/o an answer. It wasn’t until I got home and saw your solution that I realized the on line one had a misprint. Who’s ass do we kick for that?

  8. Hi all – actually, CREPT took longer than BICEPS for some reason, then wrote the lettrs out for the answer.
Funny that the “Close to Home” comic has a doctor listening to his patient’s heart with a “budget stethoscope” – two cans and a piece of string.
    Have a good afternoon!

  9. Angela’s our punster from the Big City,
And her name is certainly very pretty,
But to find a good rhyme
    I spent too much time
So I’m left with this pathetic little ditty.

My feeble attempt at poetry, Angela. Your are much better.

    • Earl, kind Sir Thank you so much! … ❀️ You have no idea how flattered I am. It’s by no means a feeble attempt, it’s very good! And a Limerick is the hardest form of poetry to write. I’m printing this to keep. The only other time I can remember a poem touching me so much was one my nephew (that I always speak of) wrote for me when he was little. I’ll make you laugh…

      Aunt Angela’s my best Aunt
She always wears really cool pants.. (???.LOL)!!
She takes me on the bus
I like when it’s just us
      And I love her too.

I died! He’s had my heart..(and my checkbook)! LOL..ever since.
Thank you, again. So very much.
      Have a great night. β€οΈπŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Thank you for sharing that poem. A very special young man indeed. And you have a good night also and ration how much news from Puerto Rico and Mexico and Florida and Texas you watch—we need to be informed but give us enough and not too much.

        • The boy does keep me laughing, that’s for sure.
My friends just said the same thing…”Turn it off, because you get nuts”.It’s one after another..I don’t ever remember so much all at one time.
Thank you again for the poem, I’ll cherish it!
Wishing you a good night also. It’s a beautiful night to be outdoors.
          Be well. β€οΈπŸ™‹πŸ»
