First glance this morning..? Why’s he wearing a tie? How come they don’t have gloves on? Who’s going to carry all those BUCKETS? This could be a STICKY situation…Anyway, let’s TAP into it and see what tranSPILES..Today’s words:
TU BE honest, they weren’t all SUGAR and SPICE. I mean the thoughts FLOWed, but there was a STICKler or two in the MIX. HUBCAP, to some a dreaded comPOUND word, did give me a slight POURS. TALLER, too. The others were ok, but as FOREST I’m concerned, David did try to SAP it to us today. On to the cartoon. As I mentioned earlier, would the man be dressed like this? “SYR, UP to the job”? I mean, who is he? A surveyor? The owner? And how about the woman? Isn’t she POURly dressed for this kind of work? You WOOD think so, right? I thought it GROVEr and GROVEr, but I just don’t know. I guess it’s really NITER here nor there. So, our solve. I have to admit, I didn’t get STUCK on the answer. ARCH soon as I read the question, and the words “10,000 MORE acres”, and “expand” I knew Dave was going for something minimal. And if you can see, two of the TREES  (2 of the 3’s…HA)! have DROPs of SYRUP going into the BUCKETS. Voila! DROP IN THE BUCKET! (Voila..)? Also, as a Mets fan, it’s a phrase I often hear. ME: “Hey, the Mets won..” MOST PEOPLE:”Yea, so, it’s a drop in the bucket..”. ME: “Hey, WOOD you CUT that OUT..” Anyway, once again, David has SWEETened the pot for us with his humorous puns. And you all know what a SAP I am for a good pun!

Ok, the eye candy. The SWEET eye candy..(Sorry, I couldn’t resist)! Way down at the bottom of the foremost TREE, is a tiny little squirrel head. And I swear, he looks like he’s grinning…I kid you KNOT!
So, that’s it for today, Friends. I guess what it all BOILS down to is…MAPLE I should learn a little more about SYRUP production? Nah, I’ll just make like a TREE and LEAVE…(C’mon.. be honest, you know you saw that coming…)!

~As sweet as this puzzle is, I had a lot of trouble getting started this morning. What’s happening to our readers down South weighs heavily on my mind and heart, and joking seems insensitive.       • You shouldn’t feel that way. Life goes on, you mention them frequently, and pray for those folks. You’re doing all that you can. The Diocese took up a collection for the Hurricane victims.later.

        • Yes, I suppose. I’m really pained by all this. I’m such a wuss! We did the same by us, the collection. I’m sitting there with tears running down my face while the priest’s talking! Can’t take me anywhere! I tell you something, for all my belief, and I do…this tests my faith. And then you walk out of Church and the weather’s so beautiful. Hard to put into prospective….Thanks for the shout out…I’m already thinking today and t’row may have to be ice cream days…😥

  4. Outside the DUPLEX the TALLER of the twins found a Rolls-Royce HUBCAP and to maintain its PURITY, he polished it HOURLY and kept it from the KERNELcorn- smudged fingers of his brother.

    I also had some problems with DUPLEX and HUBCAP—compound words give me grief but a word with an X??? Go figure. Solution was obvious even before I had all the clue words.

    Yes Angela, there are all kinds of things awry with the cartoon, but let’s face it, It is a cartoon and those who collect maple syrup these days do not use buckets but plastic piping which goes from trees to a central collection area and uses a natural force—gravity. Enough of the pedantry. But there is nothing more delicious than freshly boiled and still warm maple syrup .My grandfather collected maple syrup in a wooded area he owned and I recall scooping up snow and having the syrup dripped on it. Almost like a maple syrup snow cone.
    Thanks Jumble Makers for a challenge and for reminding me of a childhood pleasure. Have a great day everyone and think of our brothers and sisters in Florida.

    • Good morning, Earl. You cause me a ton of head shaking. What a fascinating and exciting life you’ve lived! And you don’t consider writing a book? Record it, and you can always let someone else put it together. Seriously. So, warm syrup on snow? Who does this? I mean I’m all for warm syrup, I never eat anything out that calls for syrup. It’s not hot! Who puts tepid syrup on hot food? But freshly boiled on snow? You’re a total enigma! I did read about the piping and the gravity, but you work with what you’ve got! As it is, I have to keep reminding myself that these are cartoons, and that we may be spending a lot more time on them than Jeff himself! And he gets paid for it! 😉 Your sentence today may be your best one yet. I knew if you tackled the Sunday ones that you’d enjoy having more to work with. And you’ve risen to the challenge! Kudos, Sir! (And how funny that I immediately thought of you when I saw HUBCAP! The “dreaded” comment in my post is for you)! Be well! 🍁🙋🏻

      • Ok, Angela, if syrup on snow gives you pause, how about this? A documentary I saw not only showed that, but also showed that the group cut the extreme sweetness by bringing along dill pickles and eating them between the snow/syrup bites! *Never* try to predict the behavior or taste of New Englanders!

        My favorite state quarter has always been Vermont’s, because it has the bleak bare trees, the old Yankee collecting syrup and wearing what I assume is the classic red or green-checked coat and hat with earmuffs, and, best of all, like Miles Davis, he’s performing with his back to the audience! He couldn’t give a D-MN whether you’re watching or nor, heah?

        • I saw that on line when I looked u what the spigots were called! If it’s ok with you, I’ll stick to the syrup on ice. Vermonts’ quarter is very cool. I don’t know about the Miles Davis connection…you do stretch a thought! But you know me and horns…”Bit—s Brew” may be my favorite..You’re a fan? 🍁🙋🏻

  5. Good morning. Had all the words except the last. I could not solve the puzzle at first so I looked for the answer and once I got kernel I was able to find the solution to the cartoon answer fairly quick. Maybe twenty five years ago the entire family had a reunion in Syracuse and my cousin and her children had stainless steel tanks in the barn for the syrup that they collected from all the trees they tapped. They should have been born in the 1800s because they even made coats,hats and gloves from the animals they killed for food I was very impressed how self-sufficient they were. The husband was even building a runway for his small plane so he wouldn’t have to travel to the airport. They were extremely talented. Until tomorrow stay well.

      • No sad to say. My cousin passed away years ago. She was a lot older than me. It was one of her daughters and her husband that was so talented. He was French Canadian. He and his family were amazing. There was nothing that they couldn’t do. I should have kept it touch.

      • Angela. It’s OK. It was a long time ago. and she was the oldest of all us kids. Had two days of great memories. Even went for a car ride on the back roads because my other cousin from the Bronx needed a speedometer cable From a 1936 Ford fire engine that he was restoring. He took the two of us on a twenty mile trip and then we ran in a huge open field with weeds higher than us and there was a wreck of a truck in the middle with the cable still intact. My cousin was able to use it when he spent almost a year trying to find a place that had one. Fond memories b

        • Paul, Now this is an even better story! A 1936 Fire engine? What ever happened to that? LOL..I’m watching the Yankee game, so I’m replying on commercials. Judge – another walk. Anyway, I’m glad I didn’t upset you. That entire weekend sounds wonderful. I’m curious though, how did he know there’d be that truck in the middle of the field?

      • I don’t know how he knew there was an old 36 ford truck in the middle of this field. He also took us to another place where ‘this house and barn were burned to the ground with another truck inside. But it was too burned to use. The husband and his brothers had an old mill where they cut their own lumber to make their houses. I’m telling you it was an education.

        • LOL The man was a regular truck chaser! LOL..Sorry to be asking so many questions, I just think it’s such an interesting story. An education is right! It sounds like that show that used to be on TV, “Little House on the Prairie”! (Now, that a word that’s hard to spell..Prairie). Thanks for sharing, Paul.

  6. Hi all – As Earl noted, the compound word HUBCAP took me the longest. I think because since it’s two different words, the usual combinations of CH, PH, and UP didn’t apply. I know they love the four seasons in New England, but they’re not collecting sap YET, are they? 😉

      • Yes Earl, I just meant that it seemed early for maple syrup even though some of our Nor’Easter commenters have said that it feels a bit like Fall already. Now you’ve got me wondering what the serious reply would have said! 😀🙋🏻‍♂️

  8. Luckily, the answer came easily because I needed the letters to back into all the words except hourly. Kernel took the most jumbling. I often bring New York maple syrup as a gift when I go somewhere.

      • Thats why they say there is nothing like a New York bagel. There was a time a few of us were thinking of renting a truck and fill it with NY water and drive down to New Orleans for the Mardi Gras and sell bagels. We backed out. I thought it was a good idea.

    Angela, great post as usual. Today’s Rose is Rose reminded me of you & me and how we both think our mothers were sweeter than maple syrup.
