5AM…Brooklyn, NY. Watching images of Texas being ravaged by Hurricane Harvey. There isn’t enough coffee this morning. Jeff, I wish it was any other day, because this cartoon is a Gold Mine. What I could do with this…And maybe I will another day, but not today….
Except for a slight tic at DEVOUR, today’s words posed no challenge. Our cartoon. Jeff’s in a Record Store, (is that the correct terminology), questioning the cost of the vintage Beatles album, Yesterday and Today. ( I think it’s the infamous Butcher Cover…) Last week it went for 4 Grand, today it’s 5. The proprietor is obviously a man Jeff knows, and he tells Jeff that this vinyl is selling for RECORD PRICES. What a GREAT pun. But the eye candy today is the entire panel. Jeff’s a singer-song writer, who plays guitar. Posted on the desk, is a flyer announcing the upcoming acts at a Chicago Rock Club named Lounge Ax. The details are amazing. These are the acts: Wilco, The Blisters, (which features a member whose Father is a Wilco artist and whose Mother is an owner of the Lounge), New Duncan Imperials, Poi Dog Pondering, (Remember them)? The Bishops, and JEFF KNUREK! How cool is that? Jeff’s wearing his signature Wilco T-shirt. (That color looks good on you, Jeff). The proprietor’s holding that classic Led Zeppelin album from 1969, while wearing a Clash shirt. There’s a sticker for the Ramones, one for Poi, and one for 93 XRT, an alternative radio station in Chicago. It goes on and on. This is one of Jeff’s best. Talk about chomping at the bit, the possibilities here are endless. But not today…

On the university CAMPUS most of the archeology students went on line to DEVOUR the latest information about the RELIC –an ancient CROSS found on a dig lead by the head of their department.
No problems with clue words or the solution. First time in days that I did not need a pen! Thanks Angela for sharing the lyrics iof one of my favorite Beatles’ songs. Most of the rest of your references about items in the cartoon were way beyond anything I had any knowledge of. So I need to do some reference work sometime.
Thoughts and hopes for safety for all those along the Gulf Coast. Please go away Harvey. I’d make some kind of joke about the imaginary Harvey but it doesn’t seem appropriate.
Good morning, Earl. When I first heard “Harvey” a day or two ago, I thought the Rabbit, too, and the Honeymooners episode about Bensonhurst. But that sure took a turn. That Beatles album was golden with good music, but I picked Yesterday because it just seemed to fit this morning. Beautiful song, one of my favorites also. Your sentence, as always is a gem. You have an amazing imagination, Sir. We have such beautiful weather, right? Hard to put into prospective with what’s happening in the Gulf. Hope you get to enjoy what we’re blessed with today! Good morning. The only word that gave me grief was relic. Took a couple of minutes to get. The cartoon answer was a snap. I give you props Angela. I look at the picture and I get nothing of what you obtain out of it.Maybe it’s because they are not even in my collection. Least favorite group. For other reasons than their voice of which I choose not to get into. Until tomorrow stay well. My prayers are out to Texas.

It was relic for me – had to back in and jumble on paper. I ‘m really impressed with how Earl is able to keep coming up with his coherent, erudite and often funny sentences.

You had me on erudite. Had to look up the meaning. I obtained a four year degree in college only because the military gave me $350 a months to go. Needed the extra money for my family. When the funds ran out I had a year to go so I only laid out a thousand dollars to complete my degree. I’m getting an education just reading everybody’s comment.

Hi all – I thought the word was OVERDUE, but when it didn’t fit the answer I realized it was DEVOUR.
Ah, what a wonderful wealth of detail Jeff has given us! He *must* have known how obsessively we were going to pick apart EVERY. LAST. PIXEL!
Eye candy? Well, there’s the fact that I missed that those are the Marina Towers in Chicago on the cover of Wilco’s “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” – I used to live within a couple of miles of those. And I love that the Velvet Underground’s album says “with Nico” and has Andy Warhol’s name. But my favorite? The fact that both those albums are correctly filed in the “U-Z” section in the rack!
The other fun thing for me is that I had almost this exact experience in a, yes Angela, RECORD STORE in San Jose. There was an ordinary looking copy of “Yesterday and Today” for around $800, and I cluelessly asked why so much, and he pointed out that hidden beneath was the original “Butcher Block” cover.
And Lelia! Check out the album that the clerk is holding! “It’s NOT A BALOON, IT’S AN AIRSHIP, AN AIRSHIP!!” A LED ZEPPELIN, to be precise!
