    • Good morning, again, Moose! As Earl mentioned below, and as I’m writing in my post, this again may be one of those phrases that you either know or not. It may prove to be a tough solve. IDK. I’m still half way to the moon with Judge’s rocket, so I’m so behind schedule. I haven’t slept yet! 🍭🙋🏻

        • Ah, I get it. I know what you mean. Once you get a word in your head, it’s hard to see past it. Throws everything off. Sleep…I still have to finish my post! And then, yes. Still have to survive the final game tonight. Club menu? C C Seafood and Salas Salads! You gotta love these guys! I’m still on cloud 9…9!! LOL..⚾️🍭🙋🏻

  2. The PICKLE patch was in a HILLY area and the cross-country OCTET, trying to avoid a STICKY mess, ran through the valley.
    For some reason, STICKY gave me pause. Actually had the solution to the cartoon before I could see the light. A question I raise from time to time: Is this also a phrase ( lickety-split) that the younger generations would rarely have heard, If at all?

    • Good morning, Earl. Great imagery and imagination with your sentence! You never cease to amaze me! I’m tending to agree with you, it’s one of those phrases. It came to me immediately, but I’m constantly being told that my head’s full of nonsensical trivia! You can’t go by me! 😂

  3. Good morning. Solved the words fairly quick but gave up on the cartoon answer I’ll have to wait to see if my friend got it because they sleep late ,especially her husband. I would love to have a straight six or even four hours of sleep every night. Until tomorrow stay well.

      • Yes and most times you wonder why you didn’t get it I couldn’t get stick for the second word out of my head. It was easier to chaulk it up as a loss.

        • Paul, I think this may happen to a few others today, also. Moose had stick stuck in his head too! And it stands to reason, because a lollipop is a candy on a stick! The loss…like our Mets again last night. God, I’m hoping it’s not a sweep. Just one, is that asking too much? 🙄🙋🏻

    Well, well…How Sweet is this? A Candy store! So, eye candy first…Sitting there on the bottom shelf…A box that says “Premium Jumble Puzzles”! Amazing! And I’m trying my best to make out the image. A skyline, or is it trees? A building? And in the CENTer? Is that a man with a pipe? Hard to tell…Jeff, great period cartoon, but I need some help here! We have great scrambles today, with words that all look familiar. OCTET? When was the last time you used that one, Folks? Our cartoon: “Lollipops”! In little tins and marked 1¢. There’s other candies also, Gum drops and Jelly beans, and Licorice STICKS! A plethora of sugar pleasure! Two kids, their Father asking Mr. Smith about the Lollipops. But, I’m not sure if today’s solution will be that easy to get, because this may be another one of those phrases that you either know or you DONUT. I made the CONFECTION immediately, but you can’t go by me; these phrases just POP into my head! LICKETY SPLIT means fast. So the dialogue stating “devouring” and “last longer” are clues. And the kids are licking the pops. But I have to be honest here…I’m not sure the clues will bring MOUNDS of JOY. The cartoon’s GOOD…PLENTY good, but will everyone know what you MINT? Maybe NUT. I’m going to call it a PAYDAY. I know this isn’t my best effort, I’m usually a lot BUTTER in a CRUNCH. But there’s a 100 GRAND REESEons why I’m not at the top of my game today. I need to TAKE 5 and KATch up on a few things. I’m SKOR you understand

    • PS….Forgot to add…Supposedly, Lollipops were named after a POPular racing horse at the time, Lolly Pop. Cute. But I can’t help thinking what would make this guy relate a HORSE to candy? It’s a STRETCH, no? Unless, he was a gambling man?….And Lolly gave him a SWEEEEEEETTTT win? Just sayin’. 🍭🏇 🙋🏻

  6. For some reason, I had the puzzle solved by scanning the clue words before unjumbling them. The words themselves were fairly easy today, too!

  7. Hey John. How’re you doing? It’s a strange solve. It POPped right into my head too, but I think you had to know the phrase. The word SPLIT itself doesn’t come into play anywhere in the puzzle. Which explains why STICK is coming up as a chosen second word by some. The word stick does relate to the lollipop. It’s early, jury’s still out on this one! Take care. 🍭🙋🏻

  9. Got the puzzle without difficulty but then I’m familiar with the phrase lickety split. Oterwise I would have been stuck. Have a good day everyone.

  10. Hi all – Octet caused a pause, and I was in a momentary pickle at the third word, but the fourth word was the real sticky wicket. Knew the answer right away, since it’s yet another old and somewhat obsolete expression to show up here lately.

    PS – Ask Mr. Larson about the popularity of licorice in Holland!

    • Hey Steve, you know George wrote this about Eric Clapton. He was a candy freak, and always had so many cavities, that his dentist told him if he kept eating so much candy, he’d end up having to pull out all his teeth. Now that’s a Sticky Wicket! And the “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da? Well ‘Nuff said! 🍭🙋🏻

        • Good song pick! I just awoke from a three hour…What? Was that a nap??? Not ideal, but maybe I’ll squeeze another hour in before game time. I’d like so much to have at least one win for the Mets, but I know how bad the Yankees need it for the division clinch. I’m just ‘gonna go with the flow’ and eat the C C Seafood!   11. As with others, “octet” gave me problems. Figured out the answer and then was able to get octet, a word that is seldom heard. I have been in a duo, trio, quartet and probably an octet and did not know it.;-) Have a terrific day! 🙂

    • I did think of quintet, however, had to finish my post and get busy. I am looking forward to basketball season and eager to see our new players. Of course, football is next on agenda. 🏈🏀🌞🌞

    • Angela, I am not a big football fan, other than University of Kentucky (UK). Some family members do follow The Steelers and I watch them at times. Born and raised on UK basketball and that’s my first love. Proud to be a member of “The Big Blue Nation.”💙😹

      • Hey Sue, Yes, I remember your ties to the Big Blue Nation. Basketball was never big in my family, so I didn’t grow up following it. I only came to it as an adult. I enjoy watching, but it’s a distant fourth after baseball, football and hockey. I do become more engaged tho, when the playoffs occur.   13. Hi, all! Got the words quickly but had the word STICK stuck in my head, as did several of you, so I said to my husband, “LOLLIPOP! What word popped into your head?” He replied, “LICK, LICK, LICK.” Voila, I had the answer. I was instructed as a child to finish a chore, “Lickety-split,” meaning ASAP.

  15. Snap! Solved puzzle sans clue words about 12.5 seconds after reading it> Do not know why, it just came to me. Maybe LICKITY SPLIT is a Midwestern word. Another great golf day in Indiana… cannot believe we are two weeks from the September cool down weather. Bowling starts the Monday after Labor Day.
