CARTOON ANSWER:

AFTER A LONG DAY OF CASTING SINISTER SPELLS, THE EVIL WITCH HAD A —

HIKECAECDDEAHW = WICKED HEADACHE

Good Saturday morning my friends!  ANYHOW was the only clue word to give me a hassle today.  A few quick self-jumbles and the answer popped right out at me.  I know we’ve seen it a few times in the past but it’s one of those words that I haven’t quite committed to memory.  Moving on to the cartoon, we have another Wizard of Oz piece with one of the Wicked Witches resting in a chair while Glinda (the Good Witch of the North) offers her a “nice” potion to soothe her malaise.  The answer came instantly upon writing out the clue letters because I picked up on the “evil witch” clue in the sentence.  Have a wicked good Saturday and I’ll see you tomorrow!  πŸ™‚

  1. 🎢Ding Dong the Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!! Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead…”🎢 At least that’s how I remembered it. The tornado πŸ’¨ blew through Kansas, and whisked the house away to Oz, with Dorothy and Toto inside… The house fell on the Wicked Witch of the East. And Ba-Boom! Dead Witch! But here she seems to be, hanging out with Glinda, albeit with a WICKED HEADACHE! Will wonders never CEASE? And ANYHOW, weren’t we just in Oz the other day? We’re back? Why, did Dorothy return the shoes? Is Jeff re-writing the Classics? Did Travis NOT shoot Spot, and the wolf, and Ole Yeller? You mean I did all that crying for nothing…? 5-6 times?? (In retrospect, do we think Travis was just a tad too trigger happy..)? Sorry, I’m really going down the wrong ROAD here…And I’m BAUMbarding you with questions … I’ll stop and sWITCH back to the puzzle…Good words, EASTy enough. I’m WANDering if we’ve seen CUDDLE before? Is it NEWT? The cartoon: Ok, eye candy. I’m a little FEZcinated by the monkeys hat, but I’ll go with the potion. Snap, CACKLE and Popping like that, It’s OZviously the better choice. And now, we got a bad Witch, resting her feet on a flying monkey, skirt pulled up a little…a WITCH HIKER? We got Glinda, the good Witch, offering her BROOM SERVICE! We got OZmosis here! KANSAS be real? WITCH is it, dead or not dead? Oh, I’m doing it again, huh?…FLYING off the HANDLE? STIRring the POT? Causing a BREWhaha? I just can’t help it, I’m SPELLbound.
But, I really WIZ I never even started this….!.
    WITCHING Everyone a Happy Saturday! πŸ’¨ πŸ™‹πŸ»

  2. When he experienced a “wicked headache” the HIKER rested and gave his dog a gentle CUDDLE and while the pain did not CEASE, it was bearable ANYHOW.
Anyhow also slowed me down and unlike yesterday, I had to write the circled letters out to come up with the solution.
Somehow that witch does not look especially evil to me– and what’s with the striped leggings– if that’s the correct term for that leg wear?πŸ•πŸŒ²πŸ€•πŸ•·πŸ¦‚

    • Good morning, Earl. You make my mornings! Truly. But here you are gently cuddling with the dog, and I bring up shooting Ole Yeller. Sorry about that. The leggings? Yes, they’re leggings. Take a look at this clip. Around 46-47 seconds in. (There might be an ad first). I never even thought of it until you mentioned it. With me, it’s all about the shoes! LOL..Going to go off topic a little. It’s early, I think we’re alone here.ll Did you see ydays Wimbledon wildness? I died! Kim Clijsters is a pistol! And that guy!! How cool is he? Best tennis I’ve seen in years!! Hope you have a great day!

      • Thanks Angela for finding such an esoteric explanation for the leggings! The fellows who draw the cartoon certainly do their homework. I guess if you are a die-hard “Wizard” fan it would not be so strange, but to me? Remarkable!

        • Esoteric! Excellent! And Mike with malaise!! So early in the morning! You boys are truly the logophiles today! But you were my muse with the leggings. I never even remembered it. Yes, Jeff definitely gives us the real deal. Always. Tip of the WITCHs hat! Personally, I was never a fan of the Wizard. Damn near scared me to death as a kid. Kind of creeps me til this day. Except for 🎢”Over the Rainbow”🎢, I take a pass. πŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Don’t even think about going to Red Foley or Elvis’ “Old Shep” or we’ll be crying for the rest of the day!

    • Hi Earl – Maybe she’s the Pipi Longstocking of the witch world?πŸ™‚
Angela and I do a puzzle every morning called ‘Isaac Asimov”s Super Quiz’. Today it was 15 anagrams, and I suggested to Angela that she send you all 15 words and challenge you to make a sentence out of *that*! Have a great day!

      • Steve–I don’t know if Angela sent the 15 anagrams or not but I have not seen them. Always up for a challenge however! I’ll be on the look out for them.

        • Earl, Here they are: Game, Gaps, Flue, Beak, Dads, Spoke, Greed, Clays, Untie, Stalk, Limped, Enable, Rugged, Ponies, Decree.,
I didn’t send them sooner, because I wasn’t sure if you wanted them Hope you’re enjoying your evening! πŸ™‹πŸ»

  3. Margaret Hamilton suffered terrible burns in that scene as the platform did not release quickly enough for her to escape some of the flames.

    • Hi Clay. I never knew that. I’m sure, unfortunately, years ago they weren’t prepared for a lot of the stunts they enacted. Thanks for the info. I’m going to read up on it. πŸ™‹πŸ»

  4. Hi, all! I could tell you that I self-jumbled CEASE 12 times, CUDDLE 10 times, & then wrote the answer to back into ANYHOW, but there is something more important I wish to say today.
Many of you have already said how much you love reading what Mike has to say and I have told him many times how much I love his writing, but today I wish to say it in all capital letters. I LOVE MIKE’S FRIENDLY GREETINGS. After I have read, β€œGood Saturday morning, my friends!” and ending with telling us to have a good day, I will speak nicer to everyone I meet all day, and the Monday morning one, β€œGood Monday morning, my friends,” makes me speak more politely to others all week. For all of that, and all for free, I would like to give Mike a great big THANK YOU!!!

    • What a wonderful, typically thoughtful comment to leave for Mike, Lelia, and one that I’m sure that I and all the regulars would want to join in on!
Personally, I like “Welcome to another week of Jumble fun!” At this rate, Mike will have his own entry in Wikiquotes!

Anyway, thanks Lelia for the reminder to seize the day and tell Mike THANK YOU, and remember that

      🎡”You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone” 🎡

      • Since we’ve sort of become a team now, I think it’s pretty obvious to Mike where my allegiance lies, ❀️, but uh…When he’s “gone”, you got me… So…what do I file this under? πŸ™ˆπŸ™‰πŸ™Š

  5. Mike, I LOVE YOUR FRIENDLY GREETINGS, wish to say THANK YOU, and will try to remember to say it more often in the future. Since we receive these greetings almost every day, if there is a day that your time is needed by your family, I just remember one of the other ones from the week.
Many of us, including you, have repeatedly told Angela what a treat her puns are, but I just felt like aiming some compliments at you today for a job so well done. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

    • Thank you, Lelia! I don’t get too many compliments around here, so it’s always a pleasure to hear one now and again. My reason for the greeting is that I always enjoy receiving a friendly hello whenever I visit a store or meet someone I know. I always say a few extra words to make them feel special instead of just rushing past them. I hope you’re enjoying a beautiful day in Arizona — it’s muggy and overcast here. I’ll see you tomorrow! πŸ™‚πŸ‘‹πŸ»

  6. Hi all – No trouble with the words or HEADACHE, but needed the letters to get WICKED.

I think I’ve picked up another favorite saying from the ‘Mutts’ comic today. He says in effect that many people break into song because they can’t find the key!

I’ll file that one away with the one about people getting lost in thought because it’s unfamiliar territory.

    • Foiled again! I made a note of Mutt this morning to use in the future, now it’ll look like I was plagiarizing you! Such a good line too.
Funny how we’re both filing things away today, huh? ..πŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Please feel free to use it anytime – it’s Mutt’s, not mine so we’re both plagiarizing. And thinking that anyone would remember my post is probably a delusion of grandeur.

        • You know that’s not true. If memory serves, we’re all doing pretty good here, don’t you think? And I wish I could hear the inflection with this…

  7. Hi Lelia –
I read this quote from Serena Williams this morning that reminded me of your story about your daughter thinking that “being poor is fun”:

“I never ever ever felt broke,” she told Carter in the video. “Looking back, I’m like, wow, we lived in a two-bedroom house with seven people … I don’t know how my parents were able to make me feel that way, but they did, and that was something really special.”
