  1. Upon spying the TIPSY member leaving his exclusive club, the street URCHIN ADAPTED a demeanor MOSTLY reserved for those with plenty of cash.
No problem with clue words but took a little staring at the cartoon and the circled letters to come up with the solution.

    • Hi Earl. I didn’t know how I was going to squeeze that “urchin” into the seat! I like what you did with it! πŸš—πŸ™‹πŸ»

    • Hello Earl and Angela
One last note 🎡about Angela’s song that was playing on the jukebox Monday during our morning Mai-Tais at “Earl the Beachcombers” (Motto – “Where the smell of the citronella candles masks the decomposing seaweed”):

If you watch Mick Jagger induct The Beatles into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Youtube, he bemoans the fact that, when they were growing up, the only music there was for him and his teenage friends to listen to on the BBC was stuff like “Acker Bilk, Stranger On the Shore”. Of course, he longed to hear American blues.

        • Sometimes “Yesterday’s Papers” *can* still be interesting! πŸ™‚πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

          • Yesterday’s papers? I’m reading y’days paper right now!!…But, didn’t THIS happen 30 years ago? I remember it being on TV…but…!!! LOL.
(And this kind of doesn’t belong here either, does it? πŸ™‹πŸ»

    • Now THERE’S the seafood reference we were waiting for! Too bad it took me an hour to get it! And too bad ‘Sue-she’ went off to Vegas yesterday. πŸ‘

  2. Well, this we know for sure. “CRANK IT UP” definitely doesn’t mean what it used to! Try finding some song lyrics, and you’ll see…Nothing’s ADAPTing very well, this being MOSTLY a family oriented blog…So today, let’s skip the music..and SHIFT right to the words. Give it the GAS…we got CLUTCH jumbles here! SPED through them, looked at the letters, and AUTOMATICally had “COMPANY”. Then “START UP” was easily CONVERTED from the ones remaining. SPARKED me right up! Great play on words, left me URCHIN for more! So COOLANT cute! On to the cartoon…Eye candy first…I like the GASlight, but those two-toned brown shoes are a LOCK! TRANSPORTED me back to a happier time! Ok, going FORWARD: Way back in the day, hand CRANKing was the only way to start a car. Many a soul was THROTTLEd TIPSY in the process. Broken wrists, broken arms, “busted knuckles”! Until Ohio’s inventor and engineer, Charles Kettering came along in 1911 and began work on his electrical self-starter. Big DIFFERENTIAL, that changed it OIL….Ah, Jeff, wait a second, LEMON see…How SLICK! No SPOILER here, nothing REMOTE about your message! That old Necessity Being the Mother of Invention! Major WRECK IGNITION! I can’t TORQUE my way out of this one…! VINdication, please! So, my oPINION of Mr. Kettering?…Too much info to inFUSE here. He went on to hold 186 patents, (he gave us the cash register)! he pioneered so much of US industry. Major COUPEs! His name lives on with the Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center here in NYC, and the Kettering Medical Center in Ohio. And of all the many quotes attributed to him, my favorite is: “You can’t have a better tomorrow if you are thinking about yesterday all the time…”
Here’s to you, Mr. Kettering! 🍷
Wishing Everyone a good day and a better tomorrow! πŸš— πŸ™‹πŸ»

      • LOL…Thank you, Moose. You got two really good ones in there today! πŸš— πŸ™‹πŸ»

    • If one of them had scuffed the other’s footwear, they might have become cranky and gotten into a SPAT.

  3. No problems with the words or puzzle here in startup company land. Like Earl, I thought of URCHIN as a child rather than seafood (it’s always “street urchin”, isn’t it? No urchins in houses?)

Angla, thanks for the info – I knew about Sloane Kettering in NYC but nothing about the man.

    • Hey Steve. Did you think I meant sea urchin? I was going with “street urchin” too, just didn’t know how I’d fit the word into the text. That’s why I used it as “Itchin”! ( Stop groaning..you say it fast enough, it works)!! LOL. But is it sea”food”? Do we eat sea urchins? IDK..Yep, One and the same Kettering. πŸ™‹πŸ»

        • Yes, that was a good one. I think it’s mostly eaten in Europe tho, no? Either way, no thanks. Have you read about sea urchins? Puh..leeze! And thanks, but there’s no way I’m clicking on this link..If it’s MORE than YOU care to know….the mind can’t fathom! I’ve never eaten sushi, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to the grave this way. Soooo much delicious seafood out there, let the bottom feeders stay where they may! Ok, enough seafood talk here..It’s really not puzzle related. πŸ™‹πŸ»

  4. I just wanted to say I couldn’t get urchin for love nor money, but you guys are off the rails, trying to impress yourselves with word games of your own. 😞🀀

    • It’s in our DNA – otherwise we wouldn’t be Jumble fans! πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

    • You might even say that wordplay is something to which we’re open 24 hours, Denny. πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈ

      • Steve..Do you notice that these last two emojis have different color hair? Stayed out in the yard too long? Got that sun bleached thing going on? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

        • As soon as I saw it, I thought “He’s BAAAAACK!” πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

  5. Hi, Mike et al!! Self-jumbled URCHIN 7 times. Had START right away but Seattle Times had no hyphen and placed the 2-letter word closer to the last word. Made it confusing.

  6. Hi, Mike! Thanks for telling me about the happy smiles at the amusement park. The last time I went to one was when both daughters took their 5 young children to one and asked for my help. I was doing fine in the kiddie section until both daughters decided they wanted to go on a thrill ride together. I stood there with 5 little kids as their mothers’ ride went sky-high, praying that they would return safely.

  7. Hi, Steve! I have so many things to thank you for that I’m breaking it into 4 posts, but I’ll be sure to thank you & not someone else. LOL Thanks for giving me back a song I like, Old Time Rock β€˜n’ Roll. I looked it up and found out it was/is sung by Bob Seger, that he is 72 years old, is coming to Phoenix this year, and is the face with that cool gravely voice.

  8. Steve, thanks for cows eating grass. That made me smile. They took Far Side out of our paper. On the same page was one called β€œSuperman in his later years.” He was standing in the open window of his living room asking himself, β€œNow where was I going?” That poor damsel in distress!
I laughed at what your NFL guy said about arugula; β€œDidn’t that used to be weeds?”

  9. Steve, At New Years I researched people eating greens and found a story that said a section of the south got cut off during a war, they were starving, someone went into his field of greens grown for cattle feed, picked some to cook & eat, found it edible, & spread the word, saving many lives. I never heard that story when I lived there. My daughter cuts the stems off up into the leaves, puts them into a steamer, covers them with slices of bacon, & steams them for a very long time. Yum! But what wouldn’t taste good covered with bacon?

  10. Steve, thanks for the Monopoly info. It looks inviting to me, but my grandkids can’t pull themselves away from their phones that long or Jerry his TV. The last time we played Monopoly as a family was when Ohlund Electric went under. I explained to the girls that we would be pinching pennies, so no movies, etc. for a while. That Friday I took out Monopoly & popped some corn. While we played & ate snacks together, the little one (now 50) piped up & said, β€œI think being poor is fun!”

    • Hi Lelia – Thanks for your kind replies. I’ll respond all together, and you can figure out which is which. And enjoy the rest of your day!

I think that it will be the *actual* Bob Seger who shows up in Phoenix. Actually, his face seems a bit gravelly, as well as his voice. (My friends once remarked during a concert on TV that it looked like Jack Bruce had been on the road for a long time, and my wife said “It looks like his face has been in *contact* with the road!”)

Tell Jerry it could be worse than greens! Try Googling “Eating dirt in the South” and see what comes up.

I have heard people several times say that they enjoyed their childhoods because they didn’t realize that they were poor. Nice to have that innocence, but within reason, of course.

And about liking my “How long will the Android live” comment:
You really do have a soft spot for the cynical, sardonic “guy” comment, don’t you?
All this started for me back in March when you told Mike and me that you liked our comments about the circus manager removing the safety net from the poor tightrope walker.
