Jumble Answers for 07/12/2017

RWONB = BROWN

OWNOS = SWOON

CEDDEA = DECADE

JENRIU = INJURE

CARTOON ANSWER:

BRNSWNADEIRE = BREAD WINNERS

Good Wednesday morning, my friends!  It’s time to rise to the occasion, take some whisks, and solve another Jumble for goodness bakes.  The first two words came instantly and I thought I was on a roll.  DECADE slowed me down considerably and I was forced to use my notepad to decipher it.  Le pain proved mightier than the sword and I had my answer after four quick self-jumbles.  Last but not yeast was INJURE which required a second glance to figure out.  Moving on to the cartoon, Jeff sure wasn’t loafing around when he drew this one.  The setting was a small bakery where a customer has just purchased a baguette and is making pleasant conversation with the proprietors.  The letter layout was very cryptic and didn’t give any hints away.  With no answer in mind, I decided the best place to start was at the beginning and the BR was all I needed to see.  BREAD came instantly leaving WINNERS for the finish and a very funny pun.  Have a wonderful Wednesday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

  1. I don’t want to INJURE your pride but when you reach your seventh DECADE, it’s no longer appropriate to SWOON at the concert where old pop stars have dyed BROWN hair or cheap toupees.
    No problem with the clue words but the solution forced me to grab a pen and paper– that was no help either. Staring at the cartoon and thinking deeply, the solution finally came. Good to have somewhat of a challenge today.
    Steve– sorry I gave credit to Angela yesterday and not you for the Kingston Trio reference. Big thank YOU!

    • No apology necessary Earl and not a matter of credit, I just wanted you to know that I was saying hi. Besides, it was Angela who called you the beachcomber.

      There was a lot of that going around yesterday; later, Sue mistook one of my messages as having come from Lelia.
      Really, I don’t think I have a disguise on or anything!
      (Same old round blue icon off to the side over there).

  2. Got the words at once, but finally gave up on the answer after five minutes.

  3. Hi, Mike et al!! LOVED all of your puns in your comments, Mike. Self-jumbled DECADE without getting it at first so I studied the cartoon, asked myself what the lady had purchased, exclaimed โ€œbread!โ€ and had the answer which I used to back into DECADE & INJURE. Fun puzzle & LOVED the dialog words about having time to spend with their kids because thatโ€™s what Mike said yesterday he would do today. What a great dad!!
    Have a wonderful Wednesday, all!!

    • Isn’t it strange how it appeared in the cartoon, Lelia? We went to an amusement park and had a great day. I’m afraid to admit that the thrill rides are starting to become a little too much for me. My favorite part was seeing all of the happy smiles. Have a great evening. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  4. Hi, Mike! Daughter & I ate here for a change. First, corn on the cob (a little past its prime) and then yummy Dagwood sized BLTโ€™s with extra bacon & tomato slices. She prepared collard greens, which you have never heard of or eaten in NH and which Jerry will not eat because, โ€œThey taste like grass.โ€ I cut a delicious watermelon into bite-sized cubes and had pickles & ripe olives on hand.
    After playing games all afternoon, we picked up dinner at Top Shelf, our favorite Mexican restaurant. We forgot the ice cream bars we were supposed to eat between lunch & dinner.
    I hope I get a sentence or two tomorrow about the fun you & your little ones had on your big day together.
    All our best to our favorite Jumble Answer man in the world.

    • Lelia – If Monopoly is ever one of the games you play with your daughters, I suggest you order the Queen version and blow their minds next time! (I’m sure Amazon can handle the British-to-“real money” conversion (Sorry, Earl!) ).

    • Our former Raiders coach and NFL commentator once said on his radio interview show “What’s with this arugula anyway? Didn’t that used to be weeds?”

    • That’s quite an impressive menu, Lelia. I’m a big fan of BLT sandwiches but my bread can not be toasted! You’re right about the collard greens — I’ve tried them and they definitely aren’t for me. I enjoy most vegetables except cauliflower. Broccoli is my favorite, especially when steamed and super tender. It sounds like you had a very full day of activities and I can tell by your words that your daughter is a very special person and you both have a very close bond. Enjoy your day and we’ll talk soon! ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. Steve, thanks for telling me about the Galaxy Zoo project. What fun!!!
    Enjoyed all your clever comments to Sue. Sorry she gave me credit for one of them.
    My favorite of all your comments was, โ€œHow long will I live?โ€ About 4 months, until the upgraded version comes out. That is so true!! I laughed & Jerry smiled as I read it to him.
    I emulated your love of history & researched the eating of greens in the south. Iโ€™ll tell it to you tomorrow.

  6. Earl, thanks for a great true sentence geared to the understanding of those of us around 70. Also when I told Steve about a concert of old pop stars coming to Phoenix, he warned me that there was a possibility that some of the originals had died & were replaced. Gracious! Some of them dying their hair, others wearing toupees, and the rest not even there! I think Iโ€™ll just stay home!!

    • About old groups and staying home:

      ๐ŸŽต” Just take those old records off the shelf
      I’ll sit and listen to ’em by myself
      Today’s music ain’t got the same soul
      I like that old time rock ‘n’ roll
      Don’t try to take me to a disco
      You’ll never even get me out on the floor” ๐ŸŽต

  7. Just want to say thank you for always posting these answers. I work at a truck shop and everyday all the guys do a puzzle race on their lunch break. I’ve had the pleasure of being elected spell checker and rely on this daily post to do my “job”. Thanks for contributing to our daily fun or as we say “PUZZLE UP B*TCH”

    • Hi, Jenny! It’s refreshing to hear that your coworkers play the game in a race format and it’s truly a unique idea. Have you ever encountered a situation where the puzzle has stumped the whole group? Thanks for letting us know how you Jumble and I’ll be right back here tomorrow to help you out. Tell everyone I said hello! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป

  8. ๐ŸŽถ”Well I’ll be a monkey’s uncle, there ain’t a biscuit left, The only day of the week we get Sunday-fed. And they’ve ‘et up all the biscuits..And, uh, I just can’t eat without bread…”๐ŸŽถ
    Bread, the staff of life. I mean, even Oprah, on that infamous diet, came right out and said..”This is the joy for me..I LOVE BREAD..I LOVE BREAD”! And, there you have it!
    A lot of RYE humor in today’s puzzle. The words were a piece of CAKE. And as for the puzzle…We couldn’t comPLAIN, because, the writing was on the wall! Right there on the wall! Two plaques. Winning twice for “Best RYE”, 2016, 2017″! He FED it to us! “BREAD”, and two WINNERS! LEAVEN us with the solution. And there’s no misCAKEing it, both the man and the woman are happy to be making that DOUGH. They’re both running the FAMILY business…They’re both the BREAD WINNERS in the family! WRAP it up in that BROWN bag to go! Growing up Italian, we SWOONed over the hot, fresh BREAD right out of the ovens in our neighborhood BAKERIES. Most of them had been around for DECADES. We used to fight over who’d get to go on any given day. I remember my poor Mother worrying whether someone would get INJUREd, all because of the BREAD! It was the YEAST she could do to keep us from fighting. WHEAT’d be at it up until it was our turn. PITA what we did to her! It would have been so much BREADer if she CRUST went herself! But somehow she never did CRUMB to that decision…I wonder RYE…Would have saved a BUNch of time.
    So, a CHALLAH out to Jeff for aNUTher great puzzle! Eye candy today? Has to be the plaques, right? RYE KNOT!
    BREAD…I’d think I’d CRUMBle and BARLEY get by without it. I just take it with a GRAIN of salt. Beg , borrow or STALE, I KNEAD my BREAD. I conSEEDed years ago..I can’t be aLOAF, and there’s just no WHEY aROUND it! Born and BREAD, any way you SLICE it….CRUMB what may…I’m TOAST!
    Hope Everyone’s having a great day. DOUGHn’t forget to stop and smell the FLOURs! ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿป
