CARTOON ANSWER:

THE TENNIS PLAYER COULDN’T FIND HIS EQUIPMENT IN THE CLOSET AND WAS —

KAKGARACTMINE = MAKING A RACKET

Good Tuesday morning everyone!  Another day, another puzzle, so let’s see what David and Jeff served us up today.  All of the clue words came instantly this morning without any trouble at all.  Moving on to the cartoon, as soon as I saw “tennis player” in the sentence, RACKET came to mind leaving 7-letters to decipher.  Determined to make the solve without writing anything down, I figured A would be the single letter leaving MAKING to finish the puzzle and complete the pun.  Upon checking my answers, the letter layout was cryptic and gave nothing away.  Overall a very simple puzzle with a funny cartoon — you can’t go wrong with that combo!  Sometimes it’s best to keep it short and sweet so I’ll see you tomorrow.  πŸ˜€

  1. The security GUARD at the CACTUS store was told to be friendly and MINGLE but he had a KNACK for being prickly and off-putting when children made a racket.
Clue words and solution were easy and I enjoyed the bowling ball rolling across the bedroom floor– nice touch. Wonder what Angela will focus on–racket offers lots of possibilities.

  2. Good morning, Gentlemen! Playing DOUBLES this morning? You’re both on top of your GAME…LOVE it all except the “short and sweet”. Never could get a HOLD on that…πŸŽΎπŸ™‹πŸ»

  3. 🎢”Amazing ACE, How sweet the sound..”🎢…BACK HANDed. Like the tennis stroke. Like my lefty handwriting. Like the “compliment” John McEnroe just gave Serena…Of course today’s puzzle is just a coincidence…but timely, no?
“If she played the men’s circuit, she’d be like 700 in the world…” Wow, that man could sure LOB one, huh? Nobody’s gonna’ RALLY aROUND this! McEnroe, part of the Old GUARD, always had a KNACK for saying the wrong thing. And he could be as prickly as a CACTUS…MINGLE, I got NEThing!
Easy, breezy words, easy, breezy puzzle. “Making a Racket”, not a phrase heard much anymore. Would it mean nothing, if I said I LOVEd it, though? It’s rALLEY cute. LET’s proSEED to the cartoon: We see this poor wife being awoken with all the RACQUET. Give her a BREAK! LET her get some sleep! Me? I’d be at my BREAKing POINT! Why doesn’t this guy take ADVANTAGE of the opportunity to clean OUT that closet? He’s obviously been JAMMING things in there far too long. SERVES him right that he can’t find his stuff, it’s his own FAULT! LET’s be honest..Somewhere DOWN THE LINE, he’s got to get HOLD of the situation! Today’s eye candy? That bowling ball bouncing off the shelf. He’s lucky it didn’t CHIP. Who keeps a bowling ball on a top shelf?
Hope everyone has a RALLY great day! So beautiful out, I’m in the mood for something sweet…Off to Carvel for some SOFT SERVE! 🎾 πŸ™‹πŸ»

      • NOT well versed? I think you’re just LOBbying for compliments! …VERSED an anagram for SERVED! Bring Earl, it’s all on me! πŸŽΎπŸ™‹πŸ»

    • You never cease to amaze me with your ability to toss around sports puns and words. Game, set and match to you. JohnnynMac may have been out of line but as a fellow New Yorka can’t you give him a break? Not serious just showing off.

      • Once again, thank you, LOVE! TBT, while trying to think of tennis related lyrics this morning, and 🎢Amazing ACE”🎢 came into my head, I DOUBLED over laughing myself! It’s this Obsessive ComPUNsive Disorder I “suffer” from…and MATCH it with sports? GAME on! GAME, SET, MATCH to you, also. You’re as creative as they come! And, I know you’re joking, but John McEnroe? There’s NYers, and there’s New YUCKers…Miss SERENEa is a Lady, McEnroe couldn’t shine her shoes! πŸŽΎπŸ™‹πŸ»

  4. Tennis Songs? “Love Me Tender”. “True Love”. “Love is a many splendered thing”. I suspect the titles of songs with love are too many to keep on with.
I’ve come to a dead end trying to find song titles with. Net or serve or ace or lob or fore-hand or others.
But if you are familiar with the tennis term “let”. We could go with. “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” And with that I’ll end this painful process and collect my racket and retire.

    • LOL..You’re right, I didn’t dig DEEP enough! I was only thinking the word TENNIS. If I thought LOVE, it’d be an avalanche! 🎢”Let Me Call You Sweetheart”🎢 is a beautiful old song. Sure, I’m familiar with it… 🎢..Let me hear you whisper that you love me too…”🎢 They don’t write lyrics like that anymore, huh? (Now I’m thinking those love letters in the sand again)! LOL. And I’m sure it’s not RALLY painful for you, is it? …I hope you have a great day! πŸŽΎπŸ™‹πŸ»

      • McEnroe only looks good in comparison to Margaret COURT. They both seem intent on lowering the BASELINE of polite discussion these days. πŸ™

      • How Could I forget “Let it Be”? and “Don’t let the stars get in your eyes”?

        • 🎢”Don’t let the moon break your heart…🎢 Classic Perry Como! Then, how about..🎢Come on baby, LET the good times roll..Roll all night long…”🎢 ….(Is this what they mean by 🎢”Whisper words of wisdom..)”? 🎢…..πŸ˜€πŸ™‹πŸ»

          • 🎡” Dear Perry, would you be so kind,
As to fill our request, and sing the song we like best? 🎡

            Pierino Ronald “Perry” Como.

Now it’s time for “Salute to the state”:

Perry: “Rhode Island is our smallest state – that’s why we love it so much!”

            Everybody in Rhode Island: “GAG!”

            • Is this real? Salute to the State? You’re forcing me to Wikipedia? πŸ˜‚πŸ™‹πŸ»

              • Absolutely real. Even my cool grandfather gagged. They had a map on the floor of the studio with people standing on the cities saying stuff like “I’m in Providence, Perry where…”, and “I’m in Newport…” My grandfather goes “I’m in Central Falls, Perry”, where NOTHING has ever been known to happen.

One Google response threatens that you can even see that episode on Youtube, but I haven’t had the courage. πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈπŸ™‚

              • I scrolled down to the end…The threads getting hard to follow πŸ™‹πŸ»

            • Do you mean Buddy Holly’s 🎢” Words of Love”🎢? I was going with Earl’s 🎢”Let it Be”🎢…🎢”Whisper words of wisdom…”🎢…Did I get the lyrics wrong? πŸ™‹πŸ»

              • Oh no, you are absolutely right! Although the Beatles did cover Words of Love. Is this 6 degrees?

      • I’m waiting for today’s posts so thought I would add one more song title with a tennis connection–it’s very old and young ones will not know it —“After the ball is over…..” but for tennis players it makes sense. I know Bali is spelt with one l but if we add an “l”. we could use “Balli High”. Enough– hopefully today will brng new challenges.

        • Hi Earl, good morning. I’m reading this, and the tune starts playing in my head..so I look it up, and bingo! I don’t know where or when I know this from, but I thought Nat King Cole and it is. I see other singers also, but I remember Nat King Cole..and my Father drinking a beer in a long neck bottle, and we’re sitting in the living room of out first home, and He’s got all these records out….unreal how music takes you to another place… Bali Hai from one of the old musicals, right? I’m afraid my post today is too long. And I edited it! Seinfeld…so much to talk about! πŸ™‹πŸ»

  5. Hi, Mike et al! I brainstormed tennis words; net, ball, racket… RACKET!! He’s making a racket!! Three words were easy, but I backed into MINGLE. Thank goodness I got CACTUS! Last night I decided to have daughter & a granddaughter for lunch today so made a skillet of Goulash. I slept in so need to boogie to get the rest finished by noon; corn on the cob, a platter of 5 fresh fruits including watermelon cubes I cut last night, pitted black olives, sweet midget pickles, & fresh baked crescent rolls. Have a terrific Tuesday!!

  6. Steve, I just found two more posts to me from you yesterday and can hardly wait to read them to Jerry & answer them, but right now with company coming, duty calls. My daughter usually stays after lunch for games, for a nap, and for dinner so it will probably be tomorrow, but I already thank you for both of them.
Enjoy your day & I’ll see you tomorrow.

    • Glad you saw those, Lelia; replies are always completely at your convenience. Enjoy your family time today! πŸ™‚
