Good Monday morning my friends and welcome back to another week of Jumble fun!  The first three clue words came quickly, but BUREAU had me stumped for a bit.  Determined to solve it without pen and paper, I decided to make my morning coffee and revisit the puzzle with a fresh set of eyes.  After pouring a freshly brewed cup of black coffee into my beloved Jumble mug, I sat down and had that eureka moment where the answer came into view instantly.  It always amazes me how that little trick works and I regained my momentum and started the final solve.

The setting for the cartoon is an airplane cabin where a baby appears to have just been delivered.  Mr. Hoyt makes an appearance as well with his head taking up just shy of a quarter of the panel.  The look on his face is difficult to gauge but seems to be a blend of emotions ranging from shock to surprise.  No doubt he probably wishes that he booked that first class ticket instead of economy!  The letter layout for the answer was well jumbled and kept the solution very cryptic.  Seeing BORN and AIR allowed me to blend the two words together for the final solution.  Have a wonderful Monday and I’ll see you tomorrow!  🙂

    🛫🎶”Big ol’ Jet AIRliner, Don’t CARRY me too far away, Oh, big ol’ jet AIRliner, ‘Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay…”🎶 🛫 Talk about paying extra for baggage…Is this a CARRY on? Does it go over the weight limit? (Will this flight redefine acrophobia for Dave)? And exactly what was the “Estimated Time of Arrival”…for this baby? Questions to beLABOR for a long time…
    Today’s words were PLANE and simple. Slightest little LAY OVER at Bureau, I think because 2 U’s are not UsUal! The cartoon went that extra MILE, giving us the baby BORN, while they’re in the AIR…That’s the TICKET! I wonder who helped COACH the Mom? Everyone’s happy, everyone’s UNITED, you can see the CONNECTION with them all..Well, everyone but Dave, that is…Poor Dave!
    AISLE bet he’s wishing he took a PASS on this FLIGHT! He’s obVISAbly not acCUSTOMed to this! Who is? ITINERARY have to go out on a limb to get used to this! It’s certainly a DEPARTURE from the norm…But it’s FARE to say nature took it’s COURSE…this baby just refused to be HELD OVER!! So, the eye candy? Why, Dave, of course…unless I TOOK OFF in the wrong DIRECTION, and that’s not even him. Then I’m PLANE out of luck!

      • From everything I read about air travel these days, I wasn’t thinking about cleaning, I was thinking that there would never be enough room between the seats. They’d have to have her “rolling in the aisles.” No problem, they’ll soon be “touching down in New England TOWN!” 😉

        • Dave was on his way home to Chicago. Maybe that explains the incredulous look on his face…FLIGHT DIVERTED due to LABOR issue…Those unions”ll get you every time! ✈️🙋🏻

  3. Oh, he’ll see his way CLEAR! He had the day off y’day, so im sure he’s reFUELed and ready for TAKE OFF! ✈️ He’s probably BOARDING now! ✈️🙋🏻

  4. I’m back and will post two sentences today to make up for two days of absence:
    1. After the ROOKIE joined a federal BUREAU, his chief did not MINCE words when the gossip spread that his references included one from a QUACK PhD.
    2. The ROOKIE auctioneer was fooled by a QUACK seller who convinced him that a BUREAU was genuine federal period after dazzling him with a MINCE meat pie he had hidden in a secret compartment.
    Bureau also gave me pause but the solution was a snap once I also had that “eureka” moment!

    • I like the subtle “crying out loud”, Marlene – at least it was subtle to me. I’m very lucky to,have avoided those flights!

  6. Thanks for the praise “guys” but I did not make reference to the Jumble’s solution–airborne. Got too involved in the sentences I guess. Thinking about it, I could have incorporated airborne, quack, rookie and bureau with a medical sentence– but mince would have been left in the hangar–sorry to distract by using Angela’s forte with word play and puns.

  7. Bureau really had me stumped this morning even though I had figured out that airborne was the cartoon answer and knew what letters I needed. Unlike Mike I had to get out paper and pencil. I’m not a coffee drinker but maybe I should take it up if it helps unscrambling the words more easily. Have a good Monday everyone.

  8. OK Angela, I’ll skate around and see if I can conjure up a puckish third sentence–
    QUACKing as he became “airborne” the ROOKIE duckling avoided being MINCEd into chopped fowl pieces by the BUREAU of Fish and Game’s powerful motorboat.

    • SKATE around? PUCKISH? In response to my Hat Trick? Sir, you don’t disTRACK at all! And you thought Mince would MISS THE FLIGHT? I rate this 180°, nay…360°!! 3 in a row!!! You’re today’s ACE for sure! ✈️🙋🏻

I am laughing at not getting to figure out the Jumble myself because when I read it out loud the first time, Jerry who was a jet mechanic & enjoys anything about planes, immediately said, “Airborne.” After praising my hubby for that quick answer, I got to back into BUREAU! Lucky me!

    • Hi Lelia – Since you mentioned that Jerry likes anything about planes, I’ll share with you a few facts about my late brother. He was always fascinated with airplanes and flight, and we built many plastic models growing up.
      He served in the Air Force, and later worked for the government for many years as an aviation expert and analyst.
      He also was one of the first docents, and later a trainer of docents at the National Air and Space Museum in DC and later its expansion sites.
      In addition, he served as a judge for, and president of the IPMS, International Plastic Modelers Society, and some of his models are in the permanent collections of some institutions.

      He told me that one of his favorite experiences came when, at the exact moment of the 100th anniversary of the Wright Brothers flight, he arranged to be standing on the floor of the Air and Space Museum with his hand actually touching the original Wright Flyer aircraft.

    • Did Jerry ever see “The Life of Riley” on TV? William Bendix was always working in an airplane factory, standing next to his co-worker under a wing with his riviter.

  11. Lelia, glad you found “in Other Words” as it can be elusive. Harry was having trouble finding it and hope he has not given up. Been wanting to tell you that I think Phoenix is one of the cleanest places that I have visited. That said, I did find it hot and don’t think it was over 105 degrees at the time. Have a COOL day! 🙂

  12. No problems with today’s puzzle; last trip home from out West there was a lot of turbulence and it was a bit scary. Glad there has been no birthing of babies, thus far, on my flights. Everyone have a pleasant day! 🙂

  13. Sue, glad you found those other words, too. I am curious about where you went in Phoenix that was so clean. We do make a big deal out of keeping restaurants up to par with a “Dirty Dining” report. After having a Phoenix address for more than 40 years, one of our daughters moved a few miles west & now has a Glendale address. The other one moved south & west & has a Peoria address. We built our new home north & west & have a Peoria address. Phoenix also has Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, and Surprise and just keeps growing. Enjoy your day!

  14. Hi, Steve! Thank you for a line from the pleasant song “Sand & Foam” by Donovan a Scottish lad, which put me on the beach in Mexico. Thank you for sharing “One Moment in Time” with your magical time in Mexico swimming in the lagoon, sitting on the beach playing music, and listening to the whale mothers & babies. On our beach, some Mexican teens were playing guitars & singing but stopped. I called to them, “Mas musica, por favor!” (More music, please!) They played for us all evening.

    • Hi Lelia – I’m glad you found that song. The first verse is even more magical and beautiful, but it didn’t meet yesterday’s criteria since it didn”t have any insects or vermin! I was always impressed that a young British folksinger would not only appreciate the beauty of the phenomenon he saw, but also understand and include the scientific explanation in his lyrics.   15. My family likes to fly into cities, rent car and do road trips. We were doing what is called the Grand Circle tour; Mesa Verde, Four Corners, Painted Desert, Arches National Park, you get the picture but in two weeks saw a lot and loved it. I was impressed that Phoenix did not have a lot of road signs and just looked clean. We were looking for a place to eat and had to look close to know if we were at a restaurant as we saw no roadside signs. Bottom line; I love it out West, however, always glad to get back home. 😉 Have a great day and stay cool. I must now do time out! 🙂

  17. Hi Mike, did anyone else see Inside Edition last night? It featured a baby being born on Spirit airline? deja vu all over again. Since the program aired on the 28th I’m figuring the baby was born on the 26th, the same day of the puzzle. Not only did Dave and Jeff get the gender of the baby boy right they also got the altitude and the side of the plane on which he was born correct.. Isn’t that PLANE CRAZY!
