CARTOON ANSWER:

THE SCUBA-DIVING PHILOSOPHER HAD —

HTHEOEGUDPST = DEEP THOUGHTS

Good morning everyone and happy Monday!  I hope you had a relaxing weekend and you’re ready to tackle another week of Jumble puzzles.  The first three clue words came instantly, with PASTRY being the only one to give me a few extra seconds of pause.  Moving along to the cartoon portion, I read the sentence and dialogue but was unable to come up with the answer.  After writing out the clue letters, I was still at a loss so I was forced to break out my notepad and began making 4-letter words.  Step, goes, post, gust, and stop all didn’t work, but for whatever reason, I saw THOUGHT and with one letter missing I made it plural leaving DEEP for the finish.  Mr. Hoyt did an excellent job of keeping the letter layout cryptic making this puzzle anything but a pushover for a Monday morning.  While studying the cartoon, I wasn’t able to find anything unique or hidden within it, but the boat bobbing above the water truly made you feel as if you were diving right alongside our philosopher friend!  Have a great Monday, and I’ll sea you tomorrow! 😉

  1. Good morning, Mike, good morning, Everyone.
🎶”Under the SEA, Under the SEA, When the SARDINE Begin the Beguine…it’s Music To Me…”🎶 Ah, those lyrics! And what rEELy great music! The reggae, the calypso, the CLAM castanets! Sebastian just CRABbing me by the heart! I SQUID you not, it affected me DEEPly. I knew from that moment on that casually dining on SEAfood would never be the same again. My new PHILOSOPHY? Female crustaceans only! Today’s words: Easy, breezy 1-4. Nothing we haven’t SEA-n before. (Had we seen Evoke and Ground recently, though)? Pastry? Deliciously scrambled! My initial THOUGHTS? Can you imagine what Earl will HATCH up, to CORALate these words into a sentence? As for the solve? Even if the cartoon alone wasn’t the TRIGGER, the GROUPer-ing of the letters easily gave us all the KELP we needed. The eye candy today? The CORAL isn’t CORAL.. it’s PURPLE! Who knew?
🎶”When the SARDINE Begin the Beguine”🎶…SCUBA Do Be Do..
TANK you lyricists everywhere! We MERMAID for each other! 🦀🐠
Have a great day, Everyone! 🙋🏻

  2. Good morning, Mike. LOVE the graphic! 🎶”Love Letters in The Sand…”🎶 🙋🏻.

      • You’re already feeling the sand between your toes! And why not? I loooove writings in the sand…The romance, the intrigue,…the checking for spelling! LOL Rain and chill here today. We had a major thunder and lightning brouhaha this morning about 4. 🙋🏻

      • 🎵Looking out on the morning rain
I used to feel so uninspired
And when I knew I had to face another day
Lord, it made me feel so tired 🎵

Hoping for better weather for you guys. I know how New England/NY can use up an entire Lelia-sent shipment of Arizona sunshine in about a day and a half. As we used to say, if you don’t like the NE weather, wait a minute!

🎵 “Rainy days and Mondays always get me down” 🎵- but both? Oy!

  3. Totally different slants today! We’re out of sync! Once again, with me, it’s all about the Music…
    🎶” I Got the Music in Me…”🎶. 🐠 🙋🏻

      • LOL. Could be because of the box scores. We’re sooo not equals after this weekend! Two 7th inning stretches…bad calls…it went on and on. They’re calling the game Bizarre! I was praying for the rain! 😞

  4. I had no problems with this one. The black stuff looks to me like it might be dead coral reefs. It takes guts for David to mix Jumble fun with reality.

    • 🎶”Sweet Caroline”🎶 My environmentalist Sister, good morning! 🙋🏻

  5. The puzzle EVOKED a PAST TRY at “deep thoughts” in GROUND-level philosophy while I was a HATCHling at university.
Clue words all came easily but I had to write the circled letters down to solve the puzzle– for some reason it was then obvious.
I think it was Steve who hinted that I should put words in caps if I want others to get my twisted sense of humor.

  6. Hi Earl, Good morning. I knew you’d come thru! Gave you a shout out in my post! Yes, it was Steve. (He had a good teacher)! LOL. Nothing twisted about your humor, it’s just that sometimes it’s hard to “read” another persons meaning. The quotes and caps KELP out, especially since we don’t “hear” the inflection. Your rainy weather reached us. Hope you have a great day! 🙋🏻

  7. Pastry gave me pause. I too had to write out the letters but saw deep right away and thought fell into place. We’ve got sunshine and warm weather here today in San Francisco, a departure from our usual summer forecast: “Fog along the coast, temps in 60’s”. Happy that our Warriors are ahead but then we’ve been there before and not prevailed so will keep my fingers crossed. Have a Happy Monday everyone. By the way, what happened to Harry??

    • I’m not sure, Betty. He posts every once in awhile that he “can’t log on” but his posts come through in the comments section just fine. 🤔

  8. Pastry took me longer than it should have and I gave up on answer. Starting week with brain freeze! 😯

  9. Hi all – I only got stuck on the first word, and then I got it wrong. I thought it was THACH. Wasn’t until filling out the answer that I realized it must be HATCH, and that I misspelled THATCH.
I remember realizing that making up a Jumble is harder than it seems because you have to make sure the words can only be unscrambled into ONE valid word.

  10. Incidentally Mike, just after I hit button to post this comment, the browser window suddenly switched, and a pop-up window appeared that said

    FACEBOOK.COM-COME.INFO
Congrats ipad user, you have been randomly selected to spin and get one unclaimed reward.
    Click OK to start.

I did not want to click ok, and the only way I could dismiss the window was to restart the browser and quickly click the tab’s ‘x’ before it could load the pop-up.
I’m going to send you a story on yesterday’s thread (ready or not 🙂 ) to ask about reconsidering our offers.

  11. Hi Mike et al!! First 3 words quick & easy. Just like you, Mike, and others, PASTRY took me extra seconds, 720 to be exact (12 minutes). Got the puzzle answer immediately as I read it: philosopher, thoughts, and he was deep down. Done!
The cartoon picture reminds me of the fabulous time Jerry & I had snorkeling in Hawaii. We have never scuba dived like our philosopher, but I just loved the snorkeling. I rented an underwater camera and got some good pictures of Jerry feeding the fish Grape Nuts cereal out of a little plastic bag.
Sorry about the bad weather I just read about in the comments. We had heat warnings on the news last night with a two-day forecast of 106 degrees.
Enjoy your afternoon & evening! See you tomorrow.

    • Hi Lelia – Send Mike more sunshine, STAT!
By the way, would you like to supersize your order of Fried Bicycle Tire up to Fried Lamborghini Tire? It’s our special this week, and comes with a big bowl of roasted lug-NUTS covered in OIL. It’s gluten-free, and extremely low calorie – because it’s totally indigestible!

    • Snorkeling is so much fun! We try to go every time we are down south. While on our cruise, we got to snorkel with giant sea turtles and it was amazing. Be careful with all of that heat, Lelia!!! We’ll take all you can spare as it’s so cold that I had the heat on in the car this morning while taking the kids to school. Be well and enjoy your day. 😀

  12. Hi, Steve!! I just read your comment to me and it made me laugh!
Steve, my grandmother had an ice-box for the first few years we lived with her, and I got to put the cardboard sign in the front window showing the ice-man how much ice we wanted.
Thanks for the article about air conditioning. I read the part to Jerry about Phoenix air conditioner motors making the outside temperature a little warmer at night. In Phoenix there are two very different kinds of air conditioning. One is a large, cube shaped metal container with a thick pad on each of the 4 sides, which should be very wet before you turn the motor on causing air to be sucked through the pads and into your house to keep you cooler. We had one for years but when a refrigeration unit to cool your home became affordable for the average Joe, we got one & you already know about our new one this year. It works just like your kitchen refrigerator, using coils and cold Freon gas. The “swamp cooler” with the wet pads keeps the inside of your home moist but the refrigeration keeps it a little drier. With a swamp cooler there is no thermostat and they do not work as well during humid weather. With refrigeration, you can adjust the thermostat to whatever temperature you wish for your home to be.
Thank’s for the tip that the classic rockers coming to Phoenix this month might not be “all there.” I won’t be buying tickets, but I’ll pass that info to kid & grandkid.
    Multitudinous well wishes!!

    • I’ve heard of swamp coolers but never seen one. I’ve also heard of people hanging semi-porous bags of water in front of their car radiators while driving through the desert for extra cooling. Kind of the exact opposite of cooking your lunch on the intake manifold, I guess.
      Cheers!

  13. Studied the cartoon clues then got the answer without any of the words. It was kind of intuitive, I guess
As with many of you, PASTRY was a long time coming, but with all the other letters and the final answer written out, I knew I needed the P, the T and the S.
When I got PASTRY it made me hungry for a raisin bran muffin! lol

  14. Snap….Still not getting the emails when Mike post it. Will try this way. Do not know what I did but I messed something up. Miss you guys!

    • Not sure what the issue is Harry, and you have quite a few of us perplexed. Visit us at https://jumbleanswer.wordpress.com and you can click on “comments” and post your own or reply to others. As for not getting my email, you can subscribe to it at the same website I listed and I believe it’s the first option on the right hand side. Hooe to hear from you soon!

      • Mike, I go there, enter my email address, it gives me a note back saying I will get a confirming email but I never do. Then it says to “contact us” and I do but when I again enter my email it does not recognize it!

    • Hey Harry…WATER ya been doing with yourself? Try the subscription thing Mike’s talking about. Just for the HALIBUT. Don’t miss out on this oppurTUNAty to get back to us. SEAS the day! Let MINNOW how it goes…..🐠🙋🏻

            • Buddy o Mine, Since you told Mike I “teach” you things, I’ll teach you something else. Carpe diem really translates to “Pluck the Day”. Swear. So I choose to go with SEAS here, just in case Harry knew. I didn’t want him to “needle” me on his first day back. Carpe diem, indeed! 🐠🙋🏻

              • Steve, Just to clarify, this is tongue in cheek, inflection/infection void, totally friendly fire. I’m not making WAVES. I forgot the 😀

              • No problem. 🙂 I never took Latin, but Google translate says seize. Maybe it’s Latin with an Italian-Bronx accent.

              • Carpe is the second-person singular present active imperative of carpō “pick or pluck” used by Horace to mean “enjoy, seize, use, make use of”. Diem is the accusative case of the noun dies “day”. A more literal translation of “carpe diem” would thus be “pluck the day [as it is ripe]”—that is, enjoy the moment.

I just got the above from Google. I figured you were going to doubt me. There’s nothing to do with Italian here, that was below the belt …again. I explained why I didn’t go to the more commonly used phrase, Carpe diem just now. . I use it all the time myself. But I had DEEP THOUGHTS about Harry possibly coming back at me, in jest, with the Pluck remark. I was just trying to avoid any possible confrontation. He may have known, he seems very well read, as are you. AS AM I. Yea, I pursued the Latin, because it helped a lot with my writing. All these root words….But, I wasn’t “needling ” you, that’s why I added the disclaimer. So, come on Steve, cut me some slack, OK This is supposed to be fun. The ball’s in your court.

              • Wow, all that “present active imperative declination” stuff makes me glad I didn’t take Latin, but I envy the insights it gives into English. I stuck with four years of French, which is helpful itself. Latin was required at my brother’s high school, and he hated it. Gud ting nobuddy reeds or rites anymor! 😉

              • Hmm. See now what I want to say, is “Carpe This”. But I promised Mike I’d take the high road. So……..Do I get an “Atta boy” or “I stand corrected”, or a “Carpe You”…or anything? No mas, fair enough? 🙋🏻

        • I really love this emoji. Too bad it doesn’t come with an animated SMH! 🙅🏻

          • Mike, lost the thread. This goes with your “head in hand”…😀🙋🏻

      • Mike, I’m happy to pick up the whole tab. You got Carte Blanche with me. Yes, French this time. And I just looked it up, you know to be sure! 😉🙋🏻

      • My bad on the phrasing, Mike – he closed the festival last night, and this was the review of it. All I know is I’m not buying the first round; my money’s no good with you! 😉 💉 💉(Just needling you again!) 😄

        • I’ll slide you Carte Blanche too. Just as long as you leave the damn needles at home…And stay off Google while we’re drinking. And stop making Italian jokes, and don’t mention food, and…Hmm, Maybe it is better if you just pay…😂 Peace? 🙋🏻

          • You know I always promise to obey your every command as long as you don’t hurt me! 🏏 🙂
Speaking of dinner, I’m off to eat and watch the hockey game. Later.

            • Ever the Ball B—–r! No Mets tonight..I’m off to the club to watch the hockey game. 🏒 🙋🏻

              • Sorry, no – had dinner etc. first. I’m only half through the first period now.

              • On my way home…end of 2nd. Rowdy crowd, dancing the “Jo-si-Do”… Enjoy! 🏒

              • I know you’re not a Zevon fan, but this one’s for this post! 🏒🏒
                “Hit Sombody”
He was born in Big Beaver by the borderline
He started playing hockey by the time he was nine
His dad took the hose and froze the back yard
And Little Buddy dreamed he was Rocket Richard
He grew up big and he grew up tough
He saw himself scoring for the Wings or Canucks
But he wasn’t that good with a puck

Buddy’s real talent was beating people up
His heart wasn’t in it but the crowd ate it up
Through pee-wee’s and juniors, midgets and mites
He must have racked up more than six hundred fights
A scout from the flames came down from Saskatoon
Said, “There’s always room on our team for a goon
Son, we’ve always got room for a goon”

There were Swedes to the left of him
                Russians to the right
A Czech at the blue line looking for a fight
Brains over brawn-that might work for you
But what’s a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do
But what’s a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do

Hit somebody! was what the crowd roared
When Buddy the goon came over the boards
“Coach,” he’d say, “I wanna score goals”
The coach said, “Buddy, remember your role
The fast guys get paid, they shoot, they score
Protect them, Buddy, that’s what you’re here for

Protection is what you’re here for
                Protection-it’s the stars that score
                Protection-kick somebody’s ass
Protection-don’t put the biscuit in the basket just
Hit some, Buddy! it rang in his ears
Blood on the ice ran down through the years
The king of the goons with a box for a throne
A thousand stitches and broken bones
He never lost a fight on his icy patrol
But deep inside, Buddy only dreamed of a goal
He just wanted one damn goal

There were Swedes at the the blue line
                Finns at the red
A Russian with a stick heading straight for his head
Brains over brawn-that might work for you
But what’s a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do
But what’s a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do

In his final season, on his final night
Buddy and a Finn goon were pegged for a fight
Thirty seconds left, the puck took a roll
And suddenly Buddy had a shot on goal

The goalie committed, Buddy picked his spot
Twenty years of waiting went into that shot
The fans jumped up, the Finn jumped too
And coldcocked Buddy on his follow through
The big man crumbled but he felt all right
‘Cause the last thing he saw
                was the flashing red light
                He saw that heavenly light

There were Swedes to the left of him
                Russians to the right
A Czech at the blue line looking for a fight
Take care of your teeth-that might work for you
But what’s a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do
But what’s a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do

              • WHAT THE PUCK?? What’d you have for dinner….? LOL. This game is savage…

              • Steak tartare? Meat sushi? Black d pudding? Actually, a chicken sandwich, Brussel sprouts and Lucero strawberries.
Halfway through the 2nd and poor Doc Emrick sounds like he’s about to have a heart attack!

              • Meth?….HA. Just wait…poor guy can’t come up for air. I’m eating strawberries right now, but they’re obviously not “organic” like yours. And brownies, were there brownies? LOL. 🍓

              • They say a series doesn’t really start until the road team wins a game or you get to game 7, so I guess we haven’t started yet. Sox/Yankees, Mets/Rangers tomorrow, eh?

              • So, the Nashville fans? Out there, huh? Wild. You still think this’ll go to 7? IDK.. IMO, Rinne may be a god! I have no horse in the race, but you gotta give it to the Preds. Yankees-Sox, you wouldn’t believe what it gets like here with this match up. Sooooo much hatred! LOL. Don’t really bother me that much, I have no loyalty to the Yankees But like if they were in the Series, I wouldn’t root against them. NY is still NY.

              • Anyway, I need to try and sleep. This 3-4 hours a night is getting tough! So, now that the game is over, I can say..GODNATT! Didn’t want to say it before you were done watching..I know you’re always afraid I’m gonna tip you off! LOL Those Swedes are serious! LOL Godnatt, Gracie. Stay away from those strawberries…a mind is a terrible thing to waste! 🙋🏻

              • Not at all; you’ve never given me a spoiler yet; wouldn’t be 🎼The end of the world 🎼 even if you did. I trust you, you’re a sports fan, you understand. Please get more sleep for your health if you can! See ya tomorrow. 👍

              • Wow..Skeeter Davis? 🎶”Why does the sun go on shining”🎶? I’m going to go see if that’s in my Father’s collection. If it is, I’m sure it was my Mother’s choice! LOL…Never saw this last night, fell asleep in a wink. Sports fan…I think I’m starting to overdose. And this morning I heard Football mentioned. Something about Hank Williams Jr. I can’t…My heads iced out, struck out, dunked out…Too bad I didn’t take after my Mother, and grow up to enjoy soap operas and crocheting and gardening…My life would have so much more relaxing! 😂😂😂. Later. ⚾️🏒🏀. 🙋🏻

              • Hey, kid – If you like Skeeter Davis era music, I must recommend this video to you. I find it amazing; a labor of love. This guy edited down a 2 hour concert to 90 minutes, and it’s the 1965 British New Musical Express summary of top groups. The description has a list of acts with the time in the video where they begin, so you can go to whatever you want and skip what you don’t. Dusty Springfield, Moody Blues, The Seekers, Herman’s Hermits, Them with Van Morrison, Donovan, The Animals, The Kinks, and, notably, The (young, attractive) Rolling Stones, and The Beatles at their British Invasion peak. The cream of the crop frozen at a perfect moment in time.

  15. Is there an echo in here? 🙂 Anyway, at my local supermarket, there’s a poster for Sapporo beer announcing “International Sushi Day is Coming! June 18th – The countdown is on”
I really am slipping. How could I not have thought of this the other day when SUSHI was a clue word:

    🎵Su-su-sushi
    Mushi-mushi
    Cherry blossom and rice
    Su-su-sushi she’s so nice 🎵

The video for this is amazing, and it’s definitely worth looking up the lyrics.

  16. Hi Mike, thanks for switching back. I’m still seeing two ads right below the very cool letters in the sand, but it might just me. I don’t really mind most ads – I just ignore – them, but I don’t like the predatory ones.

  17. Hey Caroline…It’s a chocolate bar, “Sweets for the Sweet”! Chocolate and Champagne! Oh, I forgot the strawberries! 🍓🍓🍓 Now we’re talking! Enjoy! 🙋🏻

  18. Hey Mike – I just got an auto-switch after posting a comment, to a site called ” best-ios-deals”, so it looks like it’s not the format causing it. Pick whichever you like, I guess, or wait for more reports. Maybe it’s a wordpress thing, who knows?
