Good Wednesday morning everyone!  ASKED was the only word to give some pause today, but with a little thinking and a dash of luck, it came after a minute or so.  Moving along, I thought CHATTY was “catchy” at first but that extra C was nowhere to be found.  With all of the clue words completed, it was on to the cartoon.  A quick read of the sentence and dialogue gave me all I needed to solve the puzzle and a check of the clue letters confirmed my answer.  The letter layout had the words well hidden, so if you weren’t able to solve it blindly, you may have struggled a bit.  The cartoon was excellent and featured a locksmith explaining to an employee the value of customer service while pointing to a keyhole.  A very subtle clue that I overlooked until I studied the cartoon for a few minutes.  Another great clue was the woman in the background asking another employee to make her a key.  I really enjoyed her stretched out pinky finger and trendy glasses!  A few weeks ago, I upgraded my front door lock to a keyless entry system where you can unlock the door by entering a code manually on the keypad or if my phone is in my pocket, the Bluetooth function will automatically unlock it.  No more worries about the kids losing their key or hiding a spare one under the doormat.  Enjoy your final day of May for the year and I’ll see you tomorrow!  😀 🔑

    SAFE to say, Sushi gave me a raw deal. Don’t eat it, didn’t recognize it. Blinked twice, still couldn’t get it down! Clock ticking, I moved on. Docket, check; we just had Socket on Monday. Chatty, well…in my case, DUH! An adjective after my own heart! Did I forget Asked, you ask? I’ve constantly heard that people from Brooklyn can’t pronounce the word correctly, that we say: AKSED. I don’t know, I don’t hear it. Aks me again later. But I can spell it, so no problem there. The puzzle answer was “a LOCK”, as we say here in NY, aks anybody! The two blond women discussing making a KEY, big hint. And, needed those S’s and a U, so..Sushi. It irked me that I didn’t get it straight away. (A little nod to y’days Brits)! Not a real OPEN and SHUT case for me today. Good COMBINATION of words, nicely drawn cartoon. Eye candy for me? The key on the locksmiths tie. Tie? The ones I’ve known were a lot more low KEY than that! We don’t see many locksmith businesses around any more, with digital keyless entry becoming so popular. And lock picking is a skill that really opens doors, don’t you think? LOL. Maybe I should open a business. I could call it..”.SURE-LOCK HOMES,”and plant “A-LEMON-tree”outside!

      In one sequence he comes up with multiple variations of “Elementary, my dear Watson” including “A lemon tree, my Dear Watson”, and “A yellow Manta ray, my dear Watson”.

    SUE was SHE who PICKED up the LOX for the SAFEty drill and TUMBLED over the COMBINATION of bagels and cream cheese.

            • Worked for me and the magical Patriots Super Bowl victory so there may be some truth to your theory! It was a drag having to read about the game in the paper this morning and not seeing it live. Hopefully I can stay up and watch and not fall asleep at 9.

              • You just had too much weekend. It’ll get you every time. I don’t care for the Patriots all that much. You understand, it’s a NY thing. Boston-NY has always had a big sports rivalry. In fact, I think I was like 10-11 before I realized Bostonsucks wasn’t one word! Who knew? 😂❤️

    • Hey Earl – Since you only had a short pause at SUSHI, I find it hard to believe your AVOWAL that you find words ending in A,E,I,O, or U difficult.

  3. Good morning. Another good day with chatty taking an extra minute to get. The cartoon answer was a little challenge. After a few minutes I used that trick of putting the paper down and going for the second cup of coffee. When I picked it back up, within a minute the answer came to me. After reading your entry and now seeing the finger pointing at the lock it was a great clue to help solve it. Until tomorrow stay well. I’m out of here.

The clue words were the most fun for me today because I don’t remember seeing any of them in the Jumble before, and I have never written the word SUSHI so had to self jumble that one a few times. Like you, I thought CHATTY was “catchy” until I needed the other “c.” Like Angela, I loved the fancy key on the owner’s tie, which I wouldn’t have gotten to see without your enlarged picture. Thanks. Earl’s puns were great, as usual.
    Keyless entry to your home. Great idea. Not available when our young ones had to go into the back yard, pick up a brick, and move a little dirt to get the key.

    • SUSHI was a fun word to solve, and it came right away for some reason. It’s amazing how obscure words do that sometimes. I remember the “old days” of getting the house key from under a rock so the art of hiding a key outside is not lost on me. I wish it was ok to post the cartoon in it’s full detail every morning, but I don’t feel comfortable doing so. The creators of the Jumble get paid for there hard work by people purchasing a newspaper subscription and it’s one of the only reasons that I subscribe. That’s why I only zoom in and post small portions of the cartoon that don’t give away the whole thing. Your sunshine hasn’t come yet and it’s been about a week of overcast skies. I’m still full of hope that it’ll arrive soon and get my summer garden warmed up. Take care and all my best to my two favorite folks in Arizona!

  8. Good morning everyone. I too wrote down catchy at first and stumbled at sushi but I had figured out the cartoon answer so knew what letters I needed and worked backwards. Don’t know why but sometimes those five letter words give me more trouble than the six letter ones. Have a Happy Wednesday everyone. Sun is out this morning but it is cool and windy.

  10. Also an easy puzzle for me today. I agree some of the five letters give me more trouble than the six letter ones do. Is the sun ever going to shine again in Connecticut? Getting a little tired of rain. Enjoy the rest of the week.

  11. As soon as I read the puzzle clue and counted the answer squares and studied their arrangement, I had the answer. I had a bit of trouble with ALL the words but it helped to know which letters had to go in the circles. Good fun!

  12. Steve– not to worry. It is more like imitation than plagiarism. And yes words ending in vowels do tend to flummox but not completely stymie me. I think it’s because I rarlely write anything down unless the puzzle answer is many letters long and I don’t easily get it from the cartoon clues. Each of us has his/her own approach in unscrambling the clue words and solving the puzzle. It is very interesting to me to read others struggles and methods.
    I wonder if anyone has kept a record of the words which have been used so far. At times people make reference to words having been used before.

    • Thanks, Earl – you are too kind. I think once or twice I’ve looked back through the archived posts here for a word I knew had been used, but of course that can be tedious. I’m sure a good web programmer could automate that, but it’s beyond me. A list of words would be interesting.

        • Mike, I don’t know if you saw – someone left a comment on the 5/28 entry wanting to know how to follow the blog or get it in her mailbox. It’s not the main 5/28 entry, it’s one that Angela added that’s only the Jumble picture, so there’s only one comment on it.

          My wife has been sick today and hasn’t recovered yet, so my posts may be sporadic until things get back to normal. You guys have fun, and I’ll see you later.

              • Hey – The Giants may have one jerk pitcher, but at least their mascot is well-behaved. Are the Mets cursed this year or something? Ex-Marine Sandy Alderson seemed to be so intelligent and in charge when he ran the A’s, now,he’s got a zoo.

And the ” zoo” to a Mets fan will always be the “other” NY team. The Bronx Zoo. Glad your wife’s feeling better. Wasn’t just sympathy..empathy too. Been there, done that. Sitting here hoping that when we get home, they don’t decide to hang out! They’re starting to talk about BBQ ing steaks and the Warriors game. You’d think they didn’t have homes of their own! LOL.               • Yes Giants and A’s are local. Angels, Dodgers and Padres are not – I’d need MLB Extra Innings to see them. They to me are like Cleveland and the Reds are to you – that far away. You wouldn’t expect to see them on your local stations, would you? 🙂

              • Cake. Lennon, “Let it Be”. Day, “Que Sera, Sera..whatever will be will be..”. The error ? Smith has no concept of syntax???? My friends don’t take over, well kind of, LOL. but they cook, they clean up and they put all their toys away, so…! I plan on watching the game anyway. Thank God fur separate floors! LOL 🙋🏻
