THE RIVALRY BETWEEN THE WEATHER FORECASTERS WAS —

TENAPIGHU = HEATING UP

Good Wednesday morning everyone!  OFTEN tripped me up right from the get-go this morning so I breezed through the next three words and came back to think about it for a minute.  As soon as I started making words that start with O, the answer came to me and I jotted it down.  With all of the clue words complete, it was on to the cartoon.  After reading the dialogue and sentence as well as noticing the high temperatures on the map, I had a pretty good idea what the answer was going to be.  Writing out the clue letters, I quickly crossed out HEATING which left UP for the finish and confirming my original guess.  The letter layout of the final solution was great with “TEN” and “PIG” spelled out to try and get your mind going in another direction.  With Jeff giving us two clues as to who the meteorologists were in the cartoon  (the map of Michigan and 7 on the camera), I surfed over to the WXYZ Detroit website to take a peek at the staff.  The female looks like Hally Vogel, but I was unable to identify the male subject as he appears to be older in Jeff’s cartoon and all of the meteorologists on the website look middle aged.  Perhaps the male retired from the station because he couldn’t get along with her in real life like the cartoon depicts!  Have a great day and I’ll see you tomorrow.  😀

  1. Good morning, Mike, good morning, Everyone. You could have solved today’s puzzle WEATHER you were a Jumbler or not. Another gift from the Puzzle Pundits. But, do we find it a little odd that for two days in a row, we have cartoons depicting male/female dissension? Do we think the state shape depicts Michigan? Do we wonder why today, as hot as it is, our woman’s finally dressed in a different color…but it’s black? Do I wish I could be satisfied with just solving the puzzle?….LOL..Sorry folks, I’d blame it on the HEAT, but it’s rainy and chilly here! I’ll just take the blame! Wishing us all a great day! ☀️🙋🏻

    • I’m glad you mentioned the shape of Michigan — I first thought it was an oven mitt (no offense, Jumble Jeff! Please, don’t hurt me!)

      • Good morning, Glory. I thought it was too! Jeez, one leaves for two hours and you’re spread over this page like a hockey player with three minutes left on the clock! 😂🙋🏻

        • Just trying to get some posts in edgewise before YOU get back 🙂 Smiley, right? Please don’t hurt me.

          • Didn’t you see me ask Mike to please not make me laugh? Hurt you? No, I promised myself I never would….😂🙋🏻

  2. Mike, he retired because he couldn’t get along with her? 😂 Talk about PRESSURE! Good one! 👍🏻🙋🏻

              • Mike, it’s starting to get scary really!..That was my next post, that you’re on a HIGH because of the game last night! LOL. 😉🙋🏻

              • CALM down, …It’s only 9:45…You keep this up, you’re ‘gonna hurt yourself! 😂😂 🙋🏻

              • Don’t you want to save something for later? It’s only me and Earl so far…the possibilities could be endless! You’ll be going to the bullpen by lunch time! 😂🙋🏻

              • LOL. Did you eat some of Steve’s organic strawberries for breakfast? Or smoke them perhaps….???!!🍓🙋🏻

              • Ok. The pill kicked in, I’m off to get some chicken. I’m going to finally attempt the chicken pot pie. I hadn’t done it yet because one of my Luigi Board cohorts doesn’t care for chicken, and I’m nice enough to try and consider everyone when I cook for them. But the other night at our Round Table, he seemed to be especially…”How you say in English”?….a real ball br—-r to me. Jabs at every turn. Earlier that day, Steve had paid me a compliment, so I went with it…(Scene…). ME: “Hey, cut me some slack. Just this morning I was told “I never disappoint…” HE: “He’s tasted your pot roast”?!!!! Sooooo, tonight? Chicken Delight. And let the games begin… Catch you later…⚔ 🙋🏻

              • Good luck! PRO-TIP: poach the chicken first as it makes the chicken fall apart tender. Cooking the breasts a day before in a crock pot works even better, but it doesn’t sound like you have the time. 😊

              • Mike,Now you’re telling me this? Ugh! Ok, I’ll pass on it tonight. Anyway, “Revenge is a dish best served cold”. I can wait. Maybe I’ll go with pot roast! LOL. 🙋🏻

    • “Smoking strawberries”? “Pill kicked in”? I have only one question for you Angela:
” DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS?” 🙂
And does anybody really care? (Oh NO!, here we go again…)

      • Where, here or there? If you’d stop and smell the roses, you’d see that while you were stilll asleep, I mentioned that I’m in the midst (midst)? of a vertigo attack. The pill? Meclizine. And I’m not going near Chicago today. Today’s Michigan. And 🎶”Chantilly Lace has a pretty face….”🎶 🙋🏻

        • It’s still light here, there and everywhere, in our hemisphere, anyway.

        • Just dropping in for a minute, then gotta go.
Yesterday was Chicago, today was Michigan?
But 🎵”Chicago, Detroit, New York and it’s all the same street.” 🎵
🎵Chantilly lace *and* a pretty face, and a ponytail, hanging down 🎵

The holes in my tongue have just about healed from biting it this morning, how about yours?

My sincere condolences about the Mets. Ugh. Giants didn’t do that much better at Wriglry.
Get some sleep, enjoy the nothing!

          • Hey You should have joined Mike and I. Yea, real bad end there so embarrassing .

          • I’m waiting for my friend to come and lock up and set the alarm. I’m not even gonna try to go down the stairs again. I only gave you Chantilly Lace cause you guys brought it up. Hiw do u load the bases, no outs….and lose the game…Jeez.

            • I’m not a doctor, but I just wanted to mention this – my wife has experience with dizziness/wooziness and nausea, and the thing that works best for her is Zofran, generic name Ondansetron. May be worth investigating; she has gotten it during hospital stays as well. One half to one tablet per day as needed.
We have also used the ‘GoodRx’ app to find the lowest prices for things not covered by insurance. I hope you feel better tomorrow (today for you).

              • Hey Steve, thank you. But I’ve have this for like 15 years. I have good meds. I just waited too long to take it. I felt it starting Tuesday night, but I tried to chalk it up to lack of sleep. Not that that didn’t add to it. I thought I had it under control y’day, but I put on heels, and approached the staircase, and the rest is history. I’m still stuck upstairs! Not that there’s anything wrong with it! Only thing not up here is the laundry room…! LOL. But this attack is a beaut. I still haven’t had a cup of coffee. Withdrawal! Lol. So, did you translate my Italian comment yet? And thanks again for your concern. ❤️🙋🏻

              • Google translates that as “golden language and will ‘iron”. So you speak nicely while finishing the laundry?
I gather this means “Golden tongue and will of iron”? Apt.

              • Yea, Have Iron, Will Travel…! Or Speak Nicely and Carry a Big Stick! You know I got a million of ’em! It translates to: Golden Tongue and Iron Will. Yep, WAY APT!! I guess today they’d say I was “precocious”. Back then they said…”This kid is dangerous…” “My God, what a big mouth”, “Who the hell does she take after?”, “Smart, but she scares me…” “Stubborn like you…” (Both parents)!… You catch my drift…All those sweet things families say about their ‘special child’. HA-HA. 😂 Then they collectively decided on this. Fit the bill. But I still used to notice them sleeping with one eye open once in a while….ROTFL…..😂🙋🏻

              • I told you I’m working on it. Could stem from childhood…You know you see both your parents sleeping with that one eye open…kind of stays with you! ROTFL 😂🙋🏻

      • 🎵”Doctor, please, some more of these
Outside the door, she took four more” 🎵

        • 🎶”What a drag it is getting old….” 🎶 I have the Rx 💊 🙋🏻

            • 🎶Good morning, Starshine…”🎶. I was just finishing off the lyrics for you….Those Mother’s Little Helpers… 🙋🏻

              • I see, but I always thought it was “What a drag it is getting up”. I could have been wrong all this time, and have been on other songs, but as I told Leila, Don’t necessarily believe online lyrics, many have errors.

Hey, I don’t know if I’ll be on here much tonight. My wife has a late doctor appt., then we have to eat and I’m going to watch game 7. I’m going over to today’s posts now, cheers in advance for tonight.

              • Getting up? No way, Jose! On line lyrics? Oh my, you mean this isn’t all in your head? Jeez, maybe my friends/family are right…I got too much c–p in my head! I just really know lyrics. Don’t feel the need to explain. Family is always first, hands down. Of course I’ll be watching the game. I won’t post a peep, cause I never know what point you’re at. And, as always, you’ll be missed! 🙋🏻

              • Most of what we post is in my head, but online is good for checking and also for refreshing the memory – I mean, I’m not likely to remember all the words of the third verse of “Sisotowbell Lane”, even if I do remember “Noah is fixing a pump in the Rain” now, am I? Answer: No.

              • Never much of a Joni Mitchell fan, so I can’t help you here. But now, I’m already segueing into…”🎶MacArthurs Park…” You know that damn “🎶cake out in the rain…🎶…I know, It’s not easy being me! ROTFL. And you know I was just teasing you. I think you have an exceptional memory…(for a man your age)!!!! (Left yourself wide open….) Like the Mets infield last night…❤️🙋🏻

    • Angela – Seems to me your friend(?)’s insult should have been “So he *hasn’t* tasted you pot roast yet”. Talk about a Roast! Who needs enemies?

      • Steve, I wish I could shake my head! But I just pulled it out of the paper bag and I’m back to seeing one man on the mound, so I’m not tempting fate! LOL Look again. It was a question. I typed the question mark. Inflection? Tone? You needed to be there? It wasn’t English 101, it was Brooklyn P-U-N. It really was kind of funny; it’s what led up to it that pi—d me off. He is a friend, but the rule is we don’t attack. He got personal. It’s ok. Let you in on a little secret. My family “tagged me” something when I was growing up. “Lingua dorata e volonta’ di ferro”. Care to make book on who bends first? 😉🙋🏻

  3. The puzzle was easy so I came up with this: The rising temperatures in the Upper Peninsula caused a sharp drop in the barometric pressure and TelePrompTed a cold front.

      • Mike, re highs and lows (which I gather it’s ok to post about despite the time of day 🙂 ):
I once heard it suggested that for reporting temperatures, we should use Fahrenheit in the winter and Celcius in the summer, thus moderating the climate year-round.
(What even happened to Centigrade, anyway?)

    • Hi Earl, LOL. I felt tbe same way…So much ” free ” time after solving the puzzle…! The barometric pressure’s a killer here today. I was spinning as soon as I woke up. Thank God for good old Meclizine. iPhone, check, wallet, check, Meclizine, check…OK, now I can leave the house! LOL…Hope you have a good day. 🙋🏻

    • Hey Earl – I was playing my little plastic hand-held Jumble device last night,
and what word does it spit out? — “PAUNCH”!!! You made that a really easy solve for me.

        • Mike, Paunch? I thought you said..”Poach” the chicken???? 😂😂🙋🏻. And it still hurts when I laugh….

            • PLEASE, Don’t make me laugh..my ears are at war with my head! But, Oh….If only this wasn’t a family friendly blog!…. You have no idea how I’m biting my tongue! (Which oddly enough seems to be relieving the pressure in my ears)! 🙉 🙋🏻

            • “Punching the chicken”, “Scratching the chicken” .. Could you guys PLEASE wait until #AFTERDARK to discuss this stuff? 🙂

  4. I had to ponder over “often” too but the rest of the words and the cartoon were an easy solve today. Happy Wednesday everyone.

    • Easy puzzle; knew answer and words were easy. Rain and 63 here; sun forgot to shine. Have a peaceful day! ☔

      • I hung all the bed sheets out to dry so hopefully the rain will stay away from me, Sue! Hopefully the sun and I will see you tomorrow. 😊😊😊

      • “The sun forgot to shine”. I’m ashamed I don’t know that right away, and now I’m going to be thinking about it all day until I get it. Not that that’s a bad thing! I actually think that’s fun, so thank you, Little Susie!

        • Steve, you may be mixing Led Zeppelin in with Bill Withers. Hum a few bars..it always helps. I’d help, but… 🙋🏻

      • 🎵 ” The phone don’t ring, no no
And the sun refuse to shine
Never thought I’d have to pay so dearly
        For what was already mine
For such a long, long time ” 🎵
        — “Accidentally Like a Martyr”
The late, lamented, BRILLIANT, Warren Zevon, ladies and gentlemen.

  5. HI Mike et al!! Got the puzzle answer immediately, but the only word I got was GIGGLE, had to back into the other 3. Now I know that HICCUP has two c’s.
Mike, with all the talk of rain this week, I was going to send you some rays but was happy to hear that you and your sheets on the line are having sun today. Our high yesterday was 104 and today’s prediction in 107.
Yesterday I just told you the joke about the man putting so many books into his Kindle that he couldn’t lift it, but today I want to tell you who said it. It was the one-and-only Steve Martin. He has made me laugh for a long time.
Enjoy the rest of your day! See you tomorrow.

    • Hi Lelia – I hope your wax cylinder doesn’t melt in those amazing temperatures!
Since GIGGLE was one of the words today:
🎵”A wiggle in the walk and a giggle in the talk, makes the world go ’round”🎵
becaused you mentioned the Big Bopper in your reply when I posted “I second that emotion”.
Hope you are both feeling well, cheers!

    • Now that’s HOT!!! The sun hasn’t broken through the clouds as much as I hoped for the sheets to dry, so I’ll take any help that I can get. They’ve been out all morning and afternoon so what the sun didn’t do, the breeze hopefully will. I really enjoyed the kindle joke but haven’t had a chance to use it yet. I also tilled the garden in my backyard yesterday and it’s ready to accept my tomato plants. Nothing beats a fresh tomato. All my best to you and Jerry and stay cool! 😎☀️

  6. Hi all – Actually, ALPHA took me the longest; otherwise, no problem.

  7. Steve, was going to get straight to your thank-you but read your comments so far and wanted to say, I too said oven-mitt at first glance. Then I just had to Google and find Ella Fitzgerald singing The Sun Forgot to Shine This Morning ‘cause everything went wrong last night. And then, “oh, baby, that’s a what I like,” my favorite Big Bopper song that I sang until I got my lunch ready. The lyrics say “that’s what I like” but I hear an “a” in there.
    I’ll be baaack!

    • Ooooh, thanks! I didn’t know about Ella Fitzgerald; I’ll go look.
The Bopper definitely says “thats-a what I like”. Take it from me, the online lyrics are RIDDLED with errors. You have to take them all with a grain of salt (no matter how tasty the song is!).
I’m glad you could even find this comment among all the others today. Usually it’s just Angela and me abusing the privilege, but today she got Mike to join in as well. -:)

    • Oh. My. Word. While Googling Ella Fitzgerald and Sun didn’t Shine, it pointed me to Youtube videos of her singing “Sunshine of Your Love”, the song by Eric Clapton and Cream! I think I sprained my brain!

      • This instantly shares top billing with my other Most Astonishing Performance; a segment on the Lawrence Welk show where his singers perform “One Toke Over the Line”, after which Mr. Welk describes it as “a modern spiritual “.

        • LOL LOL. 🎶”Sweet Jesus…Waitin’ for the train that goes home sweet Mary….🎶. 🙋🏻

    • That’s my favorite Big Bopper song because it’s the only one I know.
Wikipedia shows, though, that he wrote the classic “Running Bear” for Johnny Preson.

      • Steve, I’m trying to seperate all these messages from last night and today. So many. I’m still getting emails coming in from the conversation Mike and I had last night. The traffic is all off. Anyway, I fell right out last night once my friend got here, so I never saw your last posts to me. . He said I never even spoke to him, just fell asleep! And he was nice enough to stay cause I was still reeling. I felt good when I woke up around 3:30 and saw him here. “🎶”That’s What Friends Are For…🎶, right? He said “You got a bunch of mail after you fell asleep…..” LOL….So, The Big Bopper. Chantilly Lace was his only hit. If you remember, ( or ever read)!!! , he died almost right after that, in that plane crash with Richie Valens I think it was and Buddy Holly. “🎶The Day the Music Died”🎶”. That was a real tragedy. So much talent. My Father spoke about it often. I think most people know that’s what the song was about, right? See you on the flip! 🙋🏻

        • In reading about that last night, I learned this chilling tale:

“While Frankie Sardo went to meet the crowd, Holly went into one of the dressing rooms at the Surf Ballroom where he notified Allsup and Jennings that he had chartered a plane to take them to Fargo, North Dakota (which is directly adjacent to Moorhead, Minnesota). On a friendly wager, Ritchie Valens flipped a coin with Tommy Allsup for his seat on the plane, and Valens won the coin-toss. Meanwhile, J.P. Richardson was suffering from the flu and was complaining that the bus was too cold and uncomfortable for him, so Waylon Jennings voluntarily surrendered his seat on the plane to Richardson.

Upon hearing that his bandmates had given away their plane seats and were going to take the bus rather than fly, Holly joked, “Well, I hope your ol’ bus freezes up again.” Jennings jokingly replied, “Well, I hope your ol’ plane crashes.” Those words would haunt Jennings for the rest of his life.”

          • Yes. You never knew about this? And you call yourself a music aficionado? Oh wait, or did I call you that? I said the whole thing was such a tragedy, all around. Maybe that’s why Waylon always sang the sad songs. Heavy burden, right? I always loved Waylon. Are you into country? You know me. I cross all those music barriers…🎶🎶🙋🏻

  8. Steve, I know I started a thank-you but can’t find it. The first things I thanked you for were for telling me my cylinder is 102 years old and finding the site where I could hear the song. I told Jerry about it, held the cylinder up, and then began singing the words of the title as a soprano back then would have sounded on an ancient recording. Never having heard my voice sound like that & not knowing what I was doing, Jerry got a wonderfully shocked look on his face that made me laugh. Today I went to the site intending to listen, but the promising to do this & that scared me away. Don’t worry because I don’t care to hear it after hearing my grandmother sing it sweetly, sans cylinder. She also loved the song “Beautiful Dreamer.” I played it on the piano for her. Thank you so much for bringing back those fond memories.

    • Like I said, my privilege indeed.
I am just sitting here amazed at the string of coincidences it took to lead to that information:
      I wasn’t ashamed to admit that I still use 2 VCR’s.
The Drabble cartoon mentioned saving VHS tapes.
You told me you also have tapes and 8-tracks.
I went you one better with wax cylinders.
      You described one you had.
And then, completely unrelated, a different comic strip mentioned Victrolas, and one of the commenters cited the UCSB Library cylinder preservation project, where we found the info on yours. That is all amazing that it even happened. A delightful journey.

    • I see it Harry. Not much I can do as I have NO ACCESS to your login info and password or email address. That is all done through WordPress as they are the host and I’m just a user as well…..

    • Here is the telephone number for wordpress: 1-877-994-9757
Maybe they can help. Glad to hear from you and congratulations on your new computer. You’ve been AWOL and missed.

  9. Usually I do not read article on blogs, but I wish to say that this write-up very compelled me to try and do it! Your writing style has been surprised me. Thanks, very great post.
