Good Wednesday morning everyone!  OFTEN tripped me up right from the get-go this morning so I breezed through the next three words and came back to think about it for a minute.  As soon as I started making words that start with O, the answer came to me and I jotted it down.  With all of the clue words complete, it was on to the cartoon.  After reading the dialogue and sentence as well as noticing the high temperatures on the map, I had a pretty good idea what the answer was going to be.  Writing out the clue letters, I quickly crossed out HEATING which left UP for the finish and confirming my original guess.  The letter layout of the final solution was great with “TEN” and “PIG” spelled out to try and get your mind going in another direction.  With Jeff giving us two clues as to who the meteorologists were in the cartoon  (the map of Michigan and 7 on the camera), I surfed over to the WXYZ Detroit website to take a peek at the staff.  The female looks like Hally Vogel, but I was unable to identify the male subject as he appears to be older in Jeff’s cartoon and all of the meteorologists on the website look middle aged.  Perhaps the male retired from the station because he couldn’t get along with her in real life like the cartoon depicts!  Have a great day and I’ll see you tomorrow.  😀

  1. Good morning, Mike, good morning, Everyone. You could have solved today’s puzzle WEATHER you were a Jumbler or not. Another gift from the Puzzle Pundits. But, do we find it a little odd that for two days in a row, we have cartoons depicting male/female dissension? Do we think the state shape depicts Michigan? Do we wonder why today, as hot as it is, our woman’s finally dressed in a different color…but it’s black? Do I wish I could be satisfied with just solving the puzzle?….LOL..Sorry folks, I’d blame it on the HEAT, but it’s rainy and chilly here! I’ll just take the blame! Wishing us all a great day! ☀️🙋🏻

              • Good luck! PRO-TIP: poach the chicken first as it makes the chicken fall apart tender. Cooking the breasts a day before in a crock pot works even better, but it doesn’t sound like you have the time. 😊

            • I’m not a doctor, but I just wanted to mention this – my wife has experience with dizziness/wooziness and nausea, and the thing that works best for her is Zofran, generic name Ondansetron. May be worth investigating; she has gotten it during hospital stays as well. One half to one tablet per day as needed.
              We have also used the ‘GoodRx’ app to find the lowest prices for things not covered by insurance. I hope you feel better tomorrow (today for you).

              • Hey Steve, thank you. But I’ve have this for like 15 years. I have good meds. I just waited too long to take it. I felt it starting Tuesday night, but I tried to chalk it up to lack of sleep. Not that that didn’t add to it. I thought I had it under control y’day, but I put on heels, and approached the staircase, and the rest is history. I’m still stuck upstairs! Not that there’s anything wrong with it! Only thing not up here is the laundry room…! LOL. But this attack is a beaut. I still haven’t had a cup of coffee. Withdrawal! Lol. So, did you translate my Italian comment yet? And thanks again for your concern. ❤️🙋🏻

              • Google translates that as “golden language and will ‘iron”. So you speak nicely while finishing the laundry?
                I gather this means “Golden tongue and will of iron”? Apt.

              • Yea, Have Iron, Will Travel…! Or Speak Nicely and Carry a Big Stick! You know I got a million of ’em! It translates to: Golden Tongue and Iron Will. Yep, WAY APT!! I guess today they’d say I was “precocious”. Back then they said…”This kid is dangerous…” “My God, what a big mouth”, “Who the hell does she take after?”, “Smart, but she scares me…” “Stubborn like you…” (Both parents)!… You catch my drift…All those sweet things families say about their ‘special child’. HA-HA. 😂 Then they collectively decided on this. Fit the bill. But I still used to notice them sleeping with one eye open once in a while….ROTFL…..😂🙋🏻

      • Steve, I wish I could shake my head! But I just pulled it out of the paper bag and I’m back to seeing one man on the mound, so I’m not tempting fate! LOL Look again. It was a question. I typed the question mark. Inflection? Tone? You needed to be there? It wasn’t English 101, it was Brooklyn P-U-N. It really was kind of funny; it’s what led up to it that pi—d me off. He is a friend, but the rule is we don’t attack. He got personal. It’s ok. Let you in on a little secret. My family “tagged me” something when I was growing up. “Lingua dorata e volonta’ di ferro”.   3. The puzzle was easy so I came up with this: The rising temperatures in the Upper Peninsula caused a sharp drop in the barometric pressure and TelePrompTed a cold front.

      • Mike, re highs and lows (which I gather it’s ok to post about despite the time of day 🙂 ):
        I once heard it suggested that for reporting temperatures, we should use Fahrenheit in the winter and Celcius in the summer, thus moderating the climate year-round.
        (What even happened to Centigrade, anyway?)

  7. HI Mike et al!! Got the puzzle answer immediately, but the only word I got was GIGGLE, had to back into the other 3. Now I know that HICCUP has two c’s.
    Mike, with all the talk of rain this week, I was going to send you some rays but was happy to hear that you and your sheets on the line are having sun today. Our high yesterday was 104 and today’s prediction in 107.
    Yesterday I just told you the joke about the man putting so many books into his Kindle that he couldn’t lift it, but today I want to tell you who said it. It was the one-and-only Steve Martin. He has made me laugh for a long time.

    • Now that’s HOT!!! The sun hasn’t broken through the clouds as much as I hoped for the sheets to dry, so I’ll take any help that I can get. They’ve been out all morning and afternoon so what the sun didn’t do, the breeze hopefully will. I really enjoyed the kindle joke but haven’t had a chance to use it yet. I also tilled the garden in my backyard yesterday and it’s ready to accept my tomato plants. Nothing beats a fresh tomato. All my best to you and Jerry and stay cool! 😎☀️

  9. Steve, was going to get straight to your thank-you but read your comments so far and wanted to say, I too said oven-mitt at first glance. Then I just had to Google and find Ella Fitzgerald singing The Sun Forgot to Shine This Morning ‘cause everything went wrong last night. And then, “oh, baby, that’s a what I like,” my favorite Big Bopper song that I sang until I got my lunch ready. The lyrics say “that’s what I like” but I hear an “a” in there.
    I’ll be baaack!

    • Ooooh, thanks! I didn’t know about Ella Fitzgerald; I’ll go look.
      The Bopper definitely says “thats-a what I like”. Take it from me, the online lyrics are RIDDLED with errors. You have to take them all with a grain of salt (no matter how tasty the song is!).
      I’m glad you could even find this comment among all the others today. Usually it’s just Angela and me abusing the privilege, but today she got Mike to join in as well. -:)

    • Oh. My. Word. While Googling Ella Fitzgerald and Sun didn’t Shine, it pointed me to Youtube videos of her singing “Sunshine of Your Love”, the song by Eric Clapton and Cream! I think I sprained my brain!

      • Steve, I’m trying to seperate all these messages from last night and today. So many. I’m still getting emails coming in from the conversation Mike and I had last night. The traffic is all off. Anyway, I fell right out last night once my friend got here, so I never saw your last posts to me. . He said I never even spoke to him, just fell asleep! And he was nice enough to stay cause I was still reeling. I felt good when I woke up around 3:30 and saw him here. “🎶”That’s What Friends Are For…🎶, right? He said “You got a bunch of mail after you fell asleep…..” LOL….So, The Big Bopper. Chantilly Lace was his only hit. If you remember, ( or ever read)!!! , he died almost right after that, in that plane crash with Richie Valens I think it was and Buddy Holly. “🎶The Day the Music Died”🎶”. That was a real tragedy. So much talent. My Father spoke about it often. I think most people know that’s what the song was about, right? See you on the flip! 🙋🏻

  10. Steve, I know I started a thank-you but can’t find it. The first things I thanked you for were for telling me my cylinder is 102 years old and finding the site where I could hear the song. I told Jerry about it, held the cylinder up, and then began singing the words of the title as a soprano back then would have sounded on an ancient recording. Never having heard my voice sound like that & not knowing what I was doing, Jerry got a wonderfully shocked look on his face that made me laugh. Today I went to the site intending to listen, but the promising to do this & that scared me away. Don’t worry because I don’t care to hear it after hearing my grandmother sing it sweetly, sans cylinder. She also loved the song “Beautiful Dreamer.” I played it on the piano for her. Thank you so much for bringing back those fond memories.

      I am just sitting here amazed at the string of coincidences it took to lead to that information:
      I wasn’t ashamed to admit that I still use 2 VCR’s.
      The Drabble cartoon mentioned saving VHS tapes.
      You told me you also have tapes and 8-tracks.
      I went you one better with wax cylinders.
      You described one you had.
      And then, completely unrelated, a different comic strip mentioned Victrolas, and one of the commenters cited the UCSB Library cylinder preservation project, where we found the info on yours. That is all amazing that it even happened. A delightful journey.
