  1. It’s Sunday and I don’t see the Jumble–but stopped by to look and peak and others’ solving prowess. At any rate, hope all the Jumble Bee workers had fun with today’s puzzle . “Tomorrow is another day,” BTW: did the long shot win the Preakness?

  2. Good morning Earl. The words and puzzle answer are right here above. There’s just no commentary written. Are you able to see the solutions? The race? Not the longest shot, but a major surprise! 🙋🏻

    • Yes I saw the answers but I do not get a paper on Sundays so I go puzzle less as far as solving goes, Do you know a web site where the Jumble appears sans snswers?

      • Thanks for the link, but this was strange – I tried it around 6 AM PDT, and it was still yesterday’s puzzle. Seems fine now – sure would be nice to have a color site.

        • It posts about 3-315 my time. There is a color one. But it’s not very clear when you try to magnify it. It’s s cheat sheet one to me, because it’ll give you the answers. I’ll give you the post later. I never heard back from Earl, he was looking for it.

        • Steve, I don’t know if these are appearing in the correct order, I’m going by the emails. There’s so so..many. This isn’t going to give you great clarity when you try to enlarge. For that, the other site is on point. But here, the colors are EXACTLY as they appear in the papers with colored versions. The colors you’re seeing in your paper seem off. Just click thru and follow the prompts. During the week this is available I think by 3:30, my time. On weekends, this prints later. Sunday’s by a few hours. But by 6am, your time, you’d see this for sure. Let me know if the link works. I’m copying from my own bookmarked page.

  4. Step up, plant your feet firmly, and address the ball….”Hello, ball”!
    The cartoon first caught my eye this morning for 3 reasons….1- The blonde woman, totally dressed in purple, including her shoes! 2- The man, (I’m guessing middle aged)?…No paunch!..and 3- The classic Honeymooners skit came to mind. It gets me every time…But by checking out the cartoon first, I solved the puzzle before the words. Not PAR for the COURSE for me. So I went to the words. Slight tic at Minnow. The rest, easy, breezy, 1-2, TEE. I’m sure there’s a plethora of possible golf puns, but golf was never in my wheelhouse. So, it’s all up to you guys! HARRY, where are you when we need you? I know you don’t usually do the Jumble on Sunday, but youve been AWOL all week. Hope you SWING by today. That’s all I got…Happy Sunday, Punday! 🏌🙋🏻

    • Sorry if I’m misunderstanding something, but even some of us city slickers know that a MINNOW is a fish, not a BIRDIE. Reminds me of a time when people were commenting on a horse statue outside a western wear store here, and someone finally posted “By the way, you city folks, that’s a COW!”

          Apropos not much except food-like substances and songs, I was reading about “Hotel California”, and apparently some people mis-hear the line “Down a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair” as “COOL WHIP in my hair.”
          Those guys are going to need a “DANGER – MOUSSE CROSSING AHEAD” sign! 🦌🦌🦌 Hey Angela, Rocky and Bullwinkle – “WATTSAMATTA U”? (Told you my neighborhood was Italian!)
          

          • Yea, lions and tigers and everything…Hotel California should never be demeaned in such a manner. And from a California boy to boot..Cute analogy tho, with the mousse and the cool whip…Me, a moose and a flying squirrel? Maybe once or twice, but it was never anything serious…The “WHATSA….”? Uh uh..no way, Jose…We don’t speak like that. The iPad, it’s trying to talk to you? Maybe that’s why the battery’s dying so quickly,,,😂😂.
            Love John Madden, but he has no NY blood, he can’t know Jeter better than I do! Do you notice any difference in the color with the link vs your paper?

            • Our Sunday Jumble is not in color, but the online one looks nice.
              Madden used to stay in NY during the week before any East Coast broadcast and used to go to many Yankee games. Jeter personally invited him into the Yankees clubhouse on several occasions to introduce him and show him around, always calling him “Sir”. So he’s definitely got cred here, maybe even more than you (dare I say). 🙂 Cheers!

              • Yes, as a NY sports fan, I know the history. Nothing to do with cred. With that being said, and with all due respect to John Madden, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! Good game, enjoy! 🙋🏻

              • Fair enough. Madden loved NY. He was there on 9/11 and it affected him greatly.
                Less seriously, that Daly City boy would always marvel at the fact that the sun would go down and it would get *hotter*!

  5. It beHOOVES me to tell you that that was the word that took the longest. I had to get the letters from the other words and the answer (which took awhile also). GOALIE took a quick pause, but I’ve been watching a lot of hockey lately, and I’ve been stuck on that word before, so it came up pretty quickly.
    I like VANITY ODDITY; is that a strange curio box on the bedroom table?

    Ok Angela, here’s one to give you nightMARES:

    • LOL. Mediocre minds think alike. I was starting off my post with be HOOVES, and changed my mind! Vanity oddity..good description! Goalie? Cake…And, no nightmares with Mr Johnny Cash. Good puzzle, right? A lot of words in the. Answer, but not intimidating…I’m still trying to catch my breathe from Summer Wind….Haunting…🙋🏻

      • Good catch, but the original and most popular was by Vaughn Monroe. One of my brother’s all-time favorite songs, and still sends a chill down my spine.

    • Lelia, I ran into someone who does the Jumble and told me he gives up pretty quickly if he doesn’t get it. I don’t want to do that but I decided not to spend too much time. I didn’t even try “fresh eyes” on this one. Hope you and everyone are having a good day.

      • Carolyn, I had a feeling that you usually/almost always solve the Jumble. I have been doing the Jumble for more than 40 years and this is only the 3rd time I remember throwing in the towel, but I am planning to start doing it more often so I can get started on my second book. I am going to decide which ones to give up on based on the subject of the cartoon. To say that I know very little about golf would be an understatement. I need to find a friend like yours who gives up pretty quickly to balance out my determined, stubborn, competitive brain when it comes to finishing the Jumble. lol

      • Lelia, that’s pretty amazing that it’s only your 3rd time in 40 years. I’ve been doing the Jumble for only about a year. In the beginning, I often couldn’t get the words or the answer. Thanks to practice and tips from this blog, now I usually solve the puzzle. I don’t like to give up either but, like you, there are other things I want to do. I think your new book will help you find the right balance.

  8. Steve, don’t include me because I usually don’t get what the 3 of you are talking about, especially sports. I just meant that you could have included me yesterday because I liked the Drabble comic so much but I was speaking only of yesterday, not all the time. Thanks. So you have reel to reel. We have home movies that Jerry’s dad made on reels at family birthday parties and the movie projector he used to show them, but they are so blurry that we can barely recognize our little girls running around with their cousins. I also have one of the things of my grandmother’s that I searched for last night so I could describe it to you, but I have hidden it from myself. It is about 3 to 4 inches tall, maybe one & a half inches wide, from a distance looks like a spool of thread or a spool of fine cord, and is black or grey, can’t remember. We have no idea what kind of machine played it. Was wondering if it is one of the wax things you mentioned.

    • Hi Lelia – Well, assuming it’s not a sewing machine bobbin, 🙂 the only thing I can think of is that it might be from a wire recorder. As I understand, the first reel-type sound recorders were made by the Germans (?), and used spools of wire. That changed into the flat ribbons of tape we’re familiar with.
      The wax cylinders were the first medium that Edison used. They look like short, flat Pringles cans, and the equivalent of the record grooves are cut and played back from the outside surface.

      • I didn’t mean flat Pringles can, just shorter and thicker (stubbier?). In any case, it’s a cylinder, hence the name.

    • Hi Lelia – Since you could relate to the Drabble cartoon about being out of date, there was another reference yesterday that I thought of after posting my Victor Borge quote – In ‘Sally Forth’, a student tells his retiring teacher that he will miss him “even though your pop culture references pre-date pop culture.”

      Also – Check out today’s Monty comic about feeding the birds.

    • Interesting, and a little spooky (but probably unlikely), to think that your grandmother’s or grandfather’s voice might be lurking on that spool, waiting to be heard after all these years.

    • Hey Steve, Thanks for the article, good read. I always felt that way about Jeter, a true gentleman. Despite there being no love lost between the Yankees and I, I always had the utmost respect for him. Most of us New Yorkers do. He kind of transcends the game, you know; he’s just a head above the rest. Class and character, that he is. And so good to look at too…! LOL.. My boys broke that great streak we had going…HA ..Today’s game was one pint short of a blood bath. 🎶 Tomorrow, tomorrow…🎶 Hope you’re having a good day. 🙋🏻

      • John Madden was on our local radio every morning for many years, and he always spoke of Jeter with the absolute utmost respect and admiration. Coming from him, that’s really something. If anyone should know, he would.

  10. Steve, thank you for referring me to the Monty comic that showed him feeding wildlife birds in his yard. I made a copy of it for Jerry, and he laughed way more than is normal for him & thanks you for it. He is having a first-time, new problem with his bird feeding right now. About 2 weeks ago he reported to me that something, probably a woodpecker, had destroyed one of his finch feeders, just torn big chunks out of the feeder. A few days later it happened to the other one so he replaced both of them. Now he says that both of the new ones have been destroyed. I’ll tell you the end of the ongoing saga of “the monster bird in our yard destroying finch feeders” as soon as we solve the problem.

    • If I made Jerry laugh, my work here is done.
      The feeders – could it be squirrels or rats?

  11. HOW I KNOW I’M POSTING TOO MUCH:
    I used to charge my iPad once every couple of days. Since finding Jumble Answers, I’m charging it about 3 times a day. It’s trying to tell me something (as Little Richard would say, “SHUT UP”, Steve!). I’m sure it speaks for many.

    • Nope, Pens/Sens end of the first. Modern medicine can do wonders (Cher).

      • Wait until you see the clip. If this is just modern medicine, give me the shot now! And she said she does a 5 minute plank! 5 minute plank!!! I have trouble walking the plank! 😂

  13. Good evening and good night you all. Had to leave the house right after mass so I just sat down after a family college graduation party in Manhattan. The whole puzzle was easy. Solved them both rather quick. Even my friend called and said it was a cinch. Usually Sundays is a lot harder. Until tomorrow stay well.
