Ah, MUSIC: 🎶🎶🎶 …With charms to soothe the savage beast. ( NOTE: no quotation marks, I’m intentionally paraphrasing). Beast just makes so much more sense! Where would we be without Music, the true universal language? We all love words, (or we wouldn’t be reading this), but what’s the words without the Music? 🎶🎶🎶
Today’s words, once again, only took me a MINUET. Even Absurd, which SOUNDS absurd, because I always think it needs a P. There seems to be nothing cryptic about the last few puzzles; great puzzles, but easy, breezy obvious answers. Today’s cartoon made it so simple, with the NOTES on the sheet music, the one monk using the word extraordinary, and the other the word CYMBALS! (You know I had to get that one in…I was chomping at the bit the minute I saw the puzzle! I’m not proud)!…HA…And finally, within the few letters needed to solve, WRITE off we saw the word NOTE.
There are enough puns and one liners relating to today’s puzzle, to choke a horse. (Again, with the reference to horses; I could have used these the other day)! Raise your BATONS, fellow word PUNdits, and PITCH a few of your own. We could make beautiful 🎶 music 🎶 together!

Good morning. Angela, your a wealth of knowledge. Don’t remember if they had that day way back when. Curious. as to when they came up with that. Would be nice if they had a calendar with all the special days. Anyway. The cartoon puzzle was as you said easy. Could this be a Monday? No——the paper says Thursday. Like I said before,if it’s too hard or soft we complain. Hard to get that happy medium Until tomorrow stay well.
Good morning, Paul. Thank you so much, but I wouldn’t say wealthy. Comfortable, for sure! I just seem to know a little bit about a lot. But we know a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing! LOL..I .just love to read, and I devour articles about anything. As for knowing what day it is, I start watching news at 4:30 in the morning, and they tend to mention these kind of things. There must be a website though, I’ll look it up and let you know. The Take Your Kids to work day started in the early 1990’s and it was really just for girls, Take Your Daughter to Work Day. Part of feminist equality; Gloria Steinem, I think. About ten years later, it was changed to include boys too. So no, not way back when. Yes, easy puzzle, hard puzzle…can’t please everybody! Maybe happy medium is just a myth! Stay well also, enjoy your day.🙋🏻

Hey Steve. Yea, you may be right! It is 25 years! I guess way back when depends on where you’re standing. But to me, the 90s are “back when”, and the 70s are “way back when”. No? And if your wife feels the 70s were only 15 years ago? Then you’re both lucky! Nothing beats “Young at Heart”right? Paul, Thank you, you’re very kind, but I’m not looking to cause dissension among the ranks! The correct word is breast, that’s why I put that “disclaimer” in my opening post. I know I’m a little “too” witty for my own good at times, but I definitely KNOW it’s never sardonic wit. Sometimes you just rub people the wrong way I guess. Hi! All 4 clue-words were absurdly easy for me, which suddenly impelled me to gloat. Thought cartoon answer would be “noteworthy” until seeing it had only 7 letters. He gave us a break by using “notable.”
I love music & I love to sing. I sang in church while quite young. In high school a member of a local club for men, maybe Elks, asked me to sing at a meeting. We ate a huge dinner first, and then I did my best singing “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning.” I learned every Elvis Presley song & those of many other singers. When I sang our kids to sleep, Diane always requested Summertime, specifying “my high voice.” Over the years I memorized all songs from Mary Poppins, Sound of Music, My Fair Lady and other movies. The last singer I mastered was Garth Brooks, but now I cannot remember the words. I have been singing Josh’s “Carry On Wayward Son.” I love Ordinary World but don’t know the words.
Hi Lelia, what a great opening line! Brava! It’s a wonderful gift to sing. I can see from your post that it was something that truly brought joy to your life. You know, you’ve led us to believe that Josh got all his musical talent from his father. I now think that some of it came from you! How lucky to have such a beautiful memory of singing your children to sleep; I bet it still makes you smile. And you should never worry about forgetting the words; as long as you remember all that beautiful music, who’s to say you can’t make up your own! I say sing whatever makes you happy, it’s the music that counts! Be well. 🙋🏻
Thank you for the lovely post. You brought back memories of walking to the record store with my 6-year-older brother where would each buy one of the latest Elvis singles, probably for about 88¢. I think once he bought “Don’t Be Cruel/Hound Dog” and I bought “Heartbreak Hotel”.
I’ll assume that high voice in “Summertime” did *not* sound like Janis Joplin. I don”t think that would lull your kids to sleep! 🙂
