CKRIYT = TRICKY

PIDEME = IMPEDE

CARTOON ANSWER:

WHEN CHILDREN PLAYED WITH THEIR NEW SLINKY TOYS IN APRIL OF 1946, IT WAS:

GNMSTRIIPE = SPRINGTIME

Good morning everyone! Β My Freshman outing! SPRINGing into action…
Breezed through the first two words, with TRICKY slightly living up to it’s name. Rickety first came to mind (?) IMPEDE caused a little eye tic, because at first glance I thought, ‘ends in ED’. Hard habit to break. The answer came in like a breath of fresh air; the drawing giving us the Mother stating winter’s over, and the wording mentioning April. And the Slinky! 🎢🎢 “It’s Slinky it’s Slinky, ….Everyone knows it’s Slinky”! 🎢🎢 The SPRINGy toy! We were given top notch graphics: the blooming tree, sprouting buds, and that good old tire swing. Β And Mom! What about Mom?! That hairdo so chic, the apron, the skirt, her makeup on, and wearing heels! In the house! The women of the 40’s were so glamorous!! Today’s puzzle…All in all, child’s play!

Wishing everyone a great Saturday, and a SPRING in your step! Until tomorrowπŸ™‹πŸ»

    • Great start, Angela! Easy one for me today. I thought at first 1946 was war-related, but it’s the year the slinky began. I don’t imagine the plastic slinky has as much spring as the metal one. And I agree, Happy Earth Day. It needs some attention.

      • Good morning, Caroline, and thank you. I looked for you y’day in response to the Dyngus Day article. Who knew you’d hear about Dyngus Day on a Jumble blog? And then find an article? What’re the odds? LOL…I don’t remember how long ago I learned of it, and wouldn’t have thought of it without Harry’s post. To be honest, I can’t imagine why any woman would be ok getting drenched with water, IN PUBLIC! But obviously, it’s a big part of the festivities! But, 40-50 thousand people? That’s a lot of water! Thanks again for the link, it was very interesting. And I enjoy your comments also.

  1. Anglea! Well done! I will probably groan all day. I stumbled on IMPEDE, wasn’t sure how to spell it, Rest of it snap.

    • Good morning, Harry. Thank you! Hope you have a great EARTH Day! 🌍 πŸ™‹πŸ»

  2. I also had trouble with impede but then looked at the answer and saw spring . It was an even solve after that. I enjoy the daily comments as well as the puzzle to start my day. Enjoy the weekend Even though it is a rainy and gloomy one

  3. Good morning, Marlene. I find IMPEDE to be an odd word, like Thursday’s EXCEED. Pronounced the same, yet there’s that e-consonant-e, VS consonant ee. I still think EXCEED looks wrong! I so enjoy reading everyone’s posts; and my local paper offers 4 puzzles, so I start my day with Sudoku, Jumble, and 2 Crosswords. Rainy and overcast here in NY also. Hope you have a great Earth Day! 🌍 πŸ™‹πŸ»

    • Thank you very much Rita. Ah, there’s always next week, right? Are you a fellow puzzle lover? I’m obsessed! On Sunday, besides the 4 they feature all week, my paper has a Kakuro plus a Sudoku High Fives. Have you ever tried these? Sooo good! Enjoy your Earth Day! πŸŒπŸ™‹πŸ»

  4. Angela, spelled it out so well, but I was having a senior moment and could not solve it. YOU GO GIRL!

    • Good morning Janie, nice to meet you. Thank you so much, you made me smile! As for senior moments? Sometimes I feel that without them, I may not be thinking at all! Viva La Vida! Bring it on! Happy Earth Day to you! πŸŒπŸ™‹πŸ»

  5. Good morning and happy earth day. Like everyone else I was stuck on impede and asked my son for help and he gave me the word in ten seconds. The cartoon answer took some time because I was hung up on the word ending in “ing”. Once it’s in your head it’s hard to dismiss it.Enjoyed your comment on cartoon Angela. Didn’t realize about the tire until you pointed it out. Until tomorrow stay well

    • Good morning Paul. You’re not alone. It’s always like that. And then you find yourself trying to work around that first “SEE” I always wanted a tire swing growing up…But we lived in an apartment in Brooklyn! Enjoy your Earth Day! πŸŒπŸ™‹πŸ»

  6. Very entertaining narrative, Angela! Excellent job!
    I solved the clue words without any difficulty, but the jumble answer had me buffaloed for a few moments. First I saw “item spring” and then “time spring”. I thought geez, that doesn’t make any sense . I should be embarrassed to admit that. That was a true senior moment!

    • Hi Marlene. LOL. I try! Thank you so much, I was so nervous about doing this! I keep hearing my Fathers voice in my head saying…”Empty barrels make the most noise”! HA. Being quiet was never my strong suit! And embarrassment? Embarrassment is over rated! I think in life if we stay around long enough, we’ve earned the right to be as embarrassing as we choose! Enjoy your Earth Day! πŸŒπŸ™‹πŸ»

  7. The only word I found tricky was — TRICKY.
    You’re off to a great start Angela; you didn’t embarrass yourself or anyone else!

    • Hey Steve. Thank you. I told Mike I was so nervous to hit that “Publish” button this morning! Running to the store. The natives are restless for Rice Balls. You know, because we didn’t pour enough cement into our veins last week with all that “healthy” food we ate! Jeez. You saw last night, the Mets keep breaking my heart. I just wish they’d do it in the regulation 9 instead of prolonging the agony! Did you get to hear the song? Can you smell the coconut? LOL. Truly the best beach song BAR none! Enjoy your Earth Day! πŸŒπŸ™‹πŸ»

      • I did indeed. I especially liked two things — Steel drums adding to the island vibe, and Jimmy Buffet playing barefoot. That is being courageous for your art if you ever looked at most music stage floors!

        • Hey Steve. That “Island Escape” sound, right? So good. HA The bare feet! I don’t think he owns shoes, really. He lives on the beach out here in NY and somewhere in the Caribbean I think and half the year he’s sailing. He just seems like the happiest man to me. I look at that “Toes”video and I’m grinning all thru it. You had to grin, no? He turned 70 in October…looks and sounds just like Zac Brown, IMO. Well Zac Brown sounds like him! LOL. It’s all that happy! Ton of money, sun, sand, Margaritas, ton of money…HA! A lot of happy! πŸ™‹πŸ»

  8. Good morning everyone. Good puzzle today. Really didn’t have any problem with the words or cartoon answer. Thanks to whoever sent the video of Jeff drawing the cartoon. It was very interesting. Great analysis, Angela. Happy Earth Day everyone.

    • Hi Betty. Thank you! I immediately thought of you with the Mom in heels! A regular June Cleaver! Basic black pumps…Purple would have been nice to match the blouse! But the glamour, right? The video was from Mike. I’m still a little gun shy to try an attachment! Enjoy your Earth Day! πŸŒπŸ™‹πŸ»

  9. Good job Angela! No problem with today’s puzzle; bought a Slinky not too long ago to show children how much fun it could be. Darn thing would not walk down steps; not the Slinky of my youth. Today is Thunder Over Louisville with rainy, cold weather that tells me to stay home this year. Everyone have a safe and joyful weekend. β˜”πŸŽ†

    • Thank you, Sue. I was stressing over getting it posted right. Especially after Mike said it’d be out there as soon as I “hit the button” and no “backsies” as we used to say growing up in Brooklyn! (Mike didn’t say “backsies”, I’m sure he’s never heard the word)’. LOL. I think we may have an original Slinky up in the attic; I haven’t thought about one in years. The ones today are plastic, right? No comparison. This is my first time hearing Thunder Over Louisville. Is it a festival of some kind! I’m going to look it up later. I love learning about new things. We have rain and cold here also. Wish I could stay in! So much for Spring, right? Enjoy the rest of your Earth Day. Stay warm! πŸŒπŸ™‹πŸ»

      • Angela, The Kentucky Derby Festival starts about two weeks before Derby day and has many activities; hot air balloon race, marathon race, steamboat race, bed race, Pegasus Parade, Chow Wagon, several galas/balls, etc. Thunder Over Louisville is one of the first things and is a the largest fireworks display in North America and includes an air show that starts in the afternoon. Louisville gets a lot of out of town visitors for Thunder and attendance is usually over 650,000. Fireworks start at 9:30 PM from barges on the Ohio River and from one of our many bridges to Indiana. I watched the fireworks on TV and it was quite a show, however, just too cold for me. I don’t think I am giving a very good description of what goes on, however, as you probably guess, the next two weeks are party time in Louisville. BTW, yes I am a night owl! πŸ˜‰

        • Hi Sue. This is amazing. I never heard of any of this before, except of course the Derby. Your description is fine, unless you mean the whole thing goes beyond description. Sounds like it! I don’t know what kind of owl I’ve become! I’m up since 4:30! And I have Church t’row..or today really. You’re very kind to send this and I’d enjoy discussing it further with you. But now, “To sleep, perchance to dream”! Goodnight and thanks again. See you in a few hours! πŸ™‹πŸ»
