Good morning everyone and happy Wednesday!  The first two clue words were a snap to figure out, leaving me with two words that just wouldn’t come into focus.  I figured out BOVINE after a few seconds of thinking about it but I had to break out my notepad to re-jumble FILLET a couple of times before it gave itself up.  With all of the clue words solved, I started the solve on the 6-letter solution.  No answer came to mind, so I wrote out my letters and found LEAF instantly and RE was left for the finish.  A very timely pun for this time of year!  The weather here today is overcast and chilly so I left the pellet stove on to keep some warmth in the house.  Enjoy your Wednesday and I’ll see you tomorrow.  😀

  1. Good afternoon Mike, good afternoon, everyone. WILLOW look at this! So much green! Mike, I can hear you saying…”No truer words were ever spoken!” LOL…One, two, TREE, easy, breezy puzzle. YEW can’t really see that much in the way of graphics today; (maybe Jeff feeling he gave us so much y’day, that it’d be OAKkay). And I might be going out on a LIMB here, but does the tree on the left look Male, and the right, Female? Something about those eyes, those lips? Squirrels, an acorn…a sole tulip sprouting. Nothing too exTREEm. The words? Great scrambles, but easy. Mike, have we seen FILLET before? Tricky one there, right, because I think most of us use the spelling FILET. ToMAYto, toMAHto? Oh wait, that’s not the right analogy, is it? ….I should just LEAF this alone…Hope everyone has a great day, and May the FOREST be with you…🌷 🙋🏻

  2. Hi All. I figured that leaf had to be in the answer but like Mike had to take out pad and pencil to figure out fillet. I too thought it was spelled filet.

    • Hi Caroline. Totally enjoyed reading this. I’ve come across talk of Dyngus Day over the years, but never had real information. I didn’t want to go back and forth between screens, so I’m answering you here on today’s posts. .Wasn’t sure if I’d ever heard of Stan Freberg, before my time, but as soon as I opened the link, I was floored. First, because the old Capital label. I’m lucky to have about 100 78’s that belonged to my Father, and so many of them have that label. It’s been years since I’ve opened the case they’re in, it still makes me sad. But what a gold mine, right? And then, as soon as I heard the opening chords , “Just the names have been changed…” popped into my head! “I was dyin’ here!”‘ Unreal….I’m remembering so much of it , but I’m not sure of where or when. I listened to it twice, it’s hysterical! Did you know that Amazon Prime has all the original Dragnet episodes? Priceless! And so many catch phrases on the record. “Just the facts, Ma’am” , What’s a 412″? , and “What d’ya wanna make a federal case out of it”!?!, had me rolling. We still use those phrases; just last night one of my brothers said to me, “What’s a 412″? I wonder if we even know what we’re saying or where it came from. I have to ask them. I wish I had more time to discuss this with you, right now I can’t. And I have to get back to you on the festival, I was thinking the same thing, who are these people? But you, are a musical treasure trove! Major Kudos! And to get back to my…”Cause you slay me…” You were on the right track, think vintage TV.. Thanks again for all the links. Later. 🎶🙋🏻

    • Thanks for all “the facts, ma’am!”. My parents had quite a few 78’s, including multiple disc sets in cardboard covers — where the term record ‘album’ comes from.

      • No clue on the TV quote, but google tells me it’s The Honeymooners. I’m old enough to have watched them, but don’t remember that one. Ah, the fifties, when casual sexism and domestic violence were funny. (and yes, this time I *am* being sarcastic. How did I survive the 50’s.? Oh, I remember — “My life was saved by rock ‘n roll”).

        • Hey Steve, Yep, the Honeymooners. The episode with Bert and Rita. Alice and Trixie felt Ralph and Norton were a little too attentive to Rita, so Alice dresses like her the next night and comes on to Ralph. She feeds him that line and he answers, “And I’m calling Bellevue cause you’re nuts”! Ton of great one liners from that episode…”Leave it there, the cat’ll get it”, “He certainly is a trea…SURE” and the immortal, “Hamina…Hamina”! Just saw it the other night. Gets me every time! I guess you’re right, it was so politically incorrect, but God was it funny!

      • Yup, we’re on the same wavelength. I just meant Cousin Brucie may have been the DJ on that NEW YORK station that Jenny tuned in to! WABC probably. 🙂
