TGIF and Happy Inauguration Day America!  I don’t get political on my blog so I’ll keep it short and sweet.  I’d like to thank President Obama for his service over the past eight years.  As our country moves along, may God always bless America and grace our new leader with wisdom and discernment.  No matter what side you’re on, united we stand and divided we fall so today we show respect for the office of President of the United States and the democracy our country was built upon.

The clue words posed no problem at all this morning and I sailed right on to the cartoon.  I wasn’t able to solve it by just looking at the illustration and reading the dialogue but I had an idea where it was headed.  Within the clue letters, I noticed BUG and BOO right off the bat so that’s what I wrote down first.  That left me with an A and S.  There weren’t any quotations around the word so I knew that the answer would be one single word.  Still nothing came to mind so I put the S on BOO and got BUGBOOS.  At that point it jumped out that the word was BUGABOOS for a difficult final solve and very stinky pun!  Going back and examining the cartoon, I noticed that the man has a hat on his nightstand with a “NO” symbol through a word or picture.  I wasn’t able to make out what it was by looking at both my newspaper and online copy.  If you think you have an idea, chime in and enlighten us in the comments.  Have a fantastic Friday and I’ll post tomorrow’s answer later this evening.  😀

  1. Happy Friday. Today’s puzzle was an easy one for me. Maybe it was the blueberries I had with my cereal. The whole thing was solved in under five minutes. Looking at the picture with a magnifying glass it looks like a bug with a line through it relative to a “no smoking zone”. Stay healthy everybody.

  2. Good morning! Your first paragraph was heart warming and inspirational. We do need to stand together, and wisdom and discernment are two things that all of us need.
    Yesterday I got words and cartoon so easily, I was ready to buy a stopwatch and challenge John, but today I had to look at IGLOO and STOMP twice each. Then I had to stop putting BUGS at the end of the answer because BOOABUGS didn’t work.
    Yesterday it rained all day but will catch some rays by Sunday for sure. Have a wonderful day!

  5. If the hat is of a bug with a line through it, I thought it might be a Ghostbusters type of reference, with ghosts & exterminator in the clue.
